View Full Version : Cap tyres for Velodrome? mark74 06-20-2006, 09:12 AM Can anyone recommend a BSR cap tyre combination for a nitro oval 10L4 running an OS .12CV engine? MIKE VALENTINE 06-20-2006, 09:46 AM You may want to ask this in the BSR tire thread, or just call BSR tires directly. Kenwood 06-20-2006, 11:54 AM Agreed I would call John @ BSR and ask him...He will get you going in the right direction.. jblackburn 06-20-2006, 04:43 PM I would try using the same the electrics are using - Silver EHW. Humpty 06-20-2006, 05:53 PM In electric this year John used 4 Oranges Net outside nonnet inside ...All R Stagger...All Narrow..... merich401 06-20-2006, 05:57 PM Not to say John didnt run those tires but i have been racing at the velo in Indy for years and I havent came across anybody that hasnt ran EHW silvers or oranges. If you plan to race at the indy velo you might want to check with the track because last time they would not let gas cars on the track because of insurance. Matt Monti007 06-20-2006, 09:49 PM I have been running orange EHW's for two years at the Indy velo. -Monti- swtour 06-21-2006, 12:55 AM ..we also don't allow the NITRO at Encino. mark74 06-21-2006, 03:31 AM Thanks guys. I live in Australia so until I take an overseas holiday I won't be racing with you guys. I run around a Velodrome all by my lonesome (oval isn't very popular here) located about 40mins from my house. IndyRC_Racer 06-21-2006, 03:20 PM What type of surface is the Velo in Australia? mark74 06-22-2006, 02:13 AM IndyRC, Concrete, and 250 metres on the bottom line. IndyRC_Racer 06-22-2006, 11:46 AM The Velodrome track that we have in Indianapolis is a bit larger than most. It is also concrete and our run line is around 1120 feet or 340 meters. You can find more info about racing at the Indy Velo at http://www.pdxracing.net or hobbytalk forum http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=139503. There is also an r/c series - http://www.southwesttour.com/ that runs races on the Velodrome track in Encino California. There are some threads here on Hobbytalk for the Southwest Tour, but I can't find them at the moment. I believe that Encino may be a similar size to your track. As far as tires go, I've been using Silver EHW tires in 6 cell stock with average speeds around 55mph. We race in temperatures between 60 degrees farenheit (15.5 celcius) to 90+ degrees farenheit (32+ celcius). The 4-cell mod guys such as Monti are running average speeds in the 65+ mph range. In 6-cell mod Monti ran laps in the 9.6 second range which calculates to about 80 mph (on orange EHWs). I'm not sure what John Foister (of BSR tires) was running, but he also ran similar times to Monti. Here is information on where to purchase BSR tires - http://www.bsr-racing.com/wheretobuy/ I hope this information helps. swtour 06-22-2006, 02:44 PM Our Encino Velodrome IS a 250 meter track. A couple years ago it was supposed to be resurfaced with wood and some construction was done to the track, including a new apron. This actually moved the bicycle run line out to about 265 meters. We've got a 2 day race with INSANE SPEED RUNS coming up July 22&23. I'm hoping we can get some video of the speed runs to post. John Foister 06-22-2006, 09:01 PM You definately want to run the ehw tire with nitro. Any bumps and the nitro motor will ramp up the wheel speed and try to ballon the tire and then you will get separation issue's. I would run 4 "r" size orange or silver with narrow rear tires. Be sure also to use the Windtunnel Tarus velo body for best performance at speeds in the 60 to 80 mph range. mark74 06-26-2006, 07:59 AM You definately want to run the ehw tire with nitro. I would have thought that a full width tyre would be better or is this for efficiency with the electrics or perhaps even seperation issues or even ballooning at high speed. Nobody runs these tyres in Australia so I have never seen them perform. So are you guys telling me EHW narrow silvers hold just as good as full width foams? What would happen if I ran the wide Gold Nets at 60-80mph and what is the width difference narrow to standard? John Foister 06-26-2006, 11:23 AM The narrow rear tire is the same width as the front tires. Our rubber capped rear tire is 1.5 inches wide. On all our concrete and asphalt racing here in the US except velodrome's we run the narrow rear tire on the left and the wide on the right. Velo's we run 2 rear narrow tires. The velo body we run is the same width in the rear as the front to accomadate the narrow rear tires. We also run small wings hung just behind the rear of body. The narrow rear tires on our velo's help free the car up to turn on less steering throw. We only use 15 to 20 percent throw when radio end point is set at 100%. I will try this week to takew a pictue of my car and body for ya. Kenwood 06-26-2006, 12:27 PM What Body do you run john??? Some old narrow body or something?? Humpty 06-26-2006, 01:30 PM Windtunnel Tarus Velo edition....WT2249 1/10th XHS Velodrome... Kenwood 06-26-2006, 02:07 PM Windtunnel Tarus Velo edition....WT2249 1/10th XHS Velodrome... HMM cool deal.. I guess from the looks of things they are about like the OLD SCHOOL superspeedway bodies of the past.. Ive still got some ancient protoform superspeedway thunderbirds and a pontiac grand prix from like 1993.. LOL.. huffrcman 06-26-2006, 03:09 PM That is now produce by Murdock RC as the Windtunnel Taurus XHS.The same body that I am currently running with BSR Silver EHW radials. Mach10_shooter 06-28-2006, 02:01 PM I have been running orange EHW's for two years at the Indy velo. -Monti- Monti: trying to PM you.... Your inbox is full.
