Howdy all,

New guy here looking for opinions on an engine dilema. I have a Craftsman lawn tractor with a 20.5HP B&S motor (it's about 5 yrs old). Long story short, it got run with low oil level and she threw a rod. Stripped her down and so far it looks like one rod, both pistons and the cam are toast (varying degrees of toastness). I am pretty handy with stuff and have some experience with car/motorcycle engines but my question is this....is it worth rebuilding or should I just get a new motor??? Anyone with experience here that could chime in would be much appreciated.

IF the engine block doesn't have anything broken, and it looks pretty good, it might be worth it. Otherwise the easiest and simplest thing to do is replace the engine. Or atleast short block it to make it a little easy, then you be starting off with a nice new block.

Thanks for the opinion bugman. The block looks good, no visible damage. I haven't been able to get the flywheel off yet so half the cam is still attached up in there. I will do a full inspection once I get the rest apart.

Cheers
