I've got a 2001 Craftsman 6.0 hp (B&S) lawn mower and I need to replace the pulley. I had no problem removing the blower housing but I'm not getting anywhere with removing the housing over the rewinder. It's being held in place by 4 things that resemble thumb tacks except they have a small indented hole in their centre (seems like the hole is round, not square). I did try a Robertson screwdriver but had no luck. Am I doing something wrong? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated - the pulley is on it's last few pulls!
FOLLOW-UP: I found a web page and it says: "Remove the nuts or bolts on the rewind (if equipped) or drill out the rivets or spot welds with a 3/16" bit, drilling only far enough to loosen them.
Install a replacement rewind from the original engine manufacturer. Insert the mounting bolts from inside the blower housing so that the bottoms come through the top of the shroud. Place the replacement rewind over the bolts and fasten a washer and nut securely on each bolt.
This seems pretty straight forward but I'm a little nervous about drilling out the rivets (which I guess is what my thumb tack thingies are).
