I have a 6H.P. Briggs & stratton on my pressure washer. It was bogging down so I decided to get into it. I ended up (after hours of messing with the pump and carbs etc..) finding a loose intake valve seat. I've never messed with these before. I took a large ball bearing and used it to tap the seat back in place. I reassembled the engine and it ran great for about 10-15 minutes. I was just wondering if anybody's got a clue as to whether this thing will hold up or will I just end up having to buy another motor.
Thanks

it probally will do it agian the thing to do is take a small punch and make about 4 small dempels in the aluminum up close to the seat that will hold them in its an old trick thats been arround for years and is proven to work

TTW:
SCRENCH has the right idea.
Take it apart again. Use a punch (I like an old nail set for this fix) to punch several spots (Dimpels) evenly spaced around the seat and on the surface just adjacent to the seat. This should tighten it up. Don't hit too hard and shift the position of the seat, or you'll have to regrind the valve and set the valve lash. Then Just put it together and use the heck out of it.

Well i got another half hour out of it and it started losing power again. I took the valve out, reset the valve with a ball bearing and a small hammer and then used a small punch like I was told. 5 hours later this thing is still running strong. THANK YOU!!!

I set it right into the seat and then used a hammer to tap everything down. I have a variety of sizes of bearings and a 1" ball seemed to fit nicely. I figured tapping it in this way with the force applied in a nice even circle would reduce my chances of nicking or warping the seat somehow! It seems to have worked. Yesterday I spent a couple more hours cleaning some decks so I could seal them this morning and I've got more power than ever. I love my pressure washer and was bummed when it quit working right!!
