In the 1960s, Boeing was working on a large supersonic transport, but cancelled the project in the early 1970s.

During that time, the Hong Kong die cast toy maker, Mandarin, issued a toy of this subject in its extensive line of cheap and colorful planes.

The casting is with the wings in the "landing" position. It has retractable landing gear, but I did not want to move them because they are fragile. Therefore the toy appears to have suffered a "landing gear collapse."

While admittedly crude, I think that this toy is nevertheless interesting and dramatic!

That's nice. Highly collectible, especially for aerospace buffs.

I've seen the drawings of those prototypes; they were beautiful.

Unfortunately, they were cancelled due to high costs and unsolved environmental problems.

A lot of the supersonic development work ended up producing the B-1 Lancer.

It's an interesting choice that they put the "777" on the wing of this one.

Thanks for the pictures!
