Looks like a good start.

You may want to consult the QSAC rule book if you intend to race it in sanctioned events.

I would be very curious to see more detailed shots of the work in progress if you would be willing to share them (higher resolution too. :).

Thanks,
JB

I used to race ACT up here. I have spent the last couple seasons off saving to buy a house which I did this past fall. Mostly raced in New York (Airborne). I have Lefthander cars now myself...I started with a Howe..... I would kill to have a JR car ;)

The chassis looks great. I'm intrested in the weight of the chassis as it sits now. The rigid rear bumper may cause some problems if you decide to race it (no give). Nevertheless, it looks like the real thing!! :) Great work!

Belf28

the car wieghts 23 pounds as it sits(i had the front shocks and front servos in it when i wieght it)
the rear bumper extends 2" past what you are seeing in the pic.
the front bumper extends 3" past whats seen in the pic also.
the side nerf bars will be made out of 60 thousands aluminum sheet
with a few bends in the sheet metal brake and have 2 dzus buttons
on each side holding the body on
basically alls thats left is the body the reciever pack/6 cell & the reciever & gas tank and the front sway bar.the qsac rule is 30 pounds race ready and 55%/45% left to right side rule

It's nice to see a realistic chassis being built. I own 4 WCM & 1 Lightning. None favor a real stock car cage, but performance is the reason behind their design. Gram Cracker cars are the sweetest looking chassis out there, but are hard to come by.

Good luck and keep posting updated pics!

Hi Jamie the car looks awsome but Newera models did that chassis before and it looks great but does not handle as good as the other brands without the full cage http://www.neweramodels.com/item.cgi?part_id=1432

im aware that the cars of chioce look like they were built in 2 hours!
the diffrence here is..they were rc car guys building rc cars.
im a real race car builder Building a rc car ( been building real cars 30 plus years )
ive change my design since those pics were taken & im now using a lower strut type design front suspention like a howe type super late model uses.
the weight rule is the same for every 1 and the 3/8 tubing weights nothing! so if ya think it might be the top heavy issue..... i dont think so handeling is all in the front end design . having the abilty to change roll centers and bump steer ect...
ps. ive searched the web doing my home work and the nicest car out there is a Gram Cracker chassis not much different than what ive built here

I would have to agree with you. If it handles like a cracker...you will be tough to beat. :) Keep up the good work and post more pics as you complete it!

if theres a market for these cars ...and they prove to be the car of choice you bet we will build and market them ! as far as price that is still to be configured. these cars are pretty labor intence .
but this is a prototype . once i get it right i can jig build them and cut down on some labor

Heres a pic of my new Strut type front suspension ive been working on the last few days
i used WCM upper A-arms and thier new steering rack assembly.
the caster blocks are sloted and slide foward and back to achieve simple caster adjustments. the way thier mounted to the chassis they can be spaced inward and you can run longer upper A-arms if desired to fine tune camber gain
the rack is mounted vertically so bump steer is tottaly adjustable.
will keep you updated in the next few days with more pics as i will be changing the rear of the car a little :)

Jamie,

What track/tracks will you be running/testing the chassis on?

Belf28
06-10-2006, 12:31 AM
106racepark in pembroke new hampshire is my 1st stop and possably bolder city in las vegas
if i dont have it done for june 25th race in pembroke i have a 2002 WCM (hoop car) i just picked up a few days ago

Tim Mc
06-10-2006, 09:15 AM
We have a racer running the same WCM chassis at LPR and he is having good luck with it. My son and I both have 2003 WCM cars. We have a couple older WCM's for backups.

I have to say that you do great work. A full caged chassis is rare these days. It really brings a realism look to the car. This is something that needs to come back to 1/4 scale! Race driver figures in the cars & window nets made up of different color shoestrings use to be the norm. I don't think it will ever come back due to the expense and time consuming labor it takes to create such a car, but it never hurts to dream :)

Keep us posted on the progress.

Tim

We just pulled our car off the chassis dyno a few minutes ago. Would you believe we freed up 10 hp with a different airbox configuration? Then we tweaked the box and freed up another 2....
