Paul.........I wanted to implement it at the first race but the idea was met with quite a bit of resistance from my partner. :) I look at it like you do that this way it will be the same for everyone and if you aren't on the line, you don't race that heat or main. I was figuring 5 minute "breaks" (10-15 minutes between 1st and 2nd qualifying rounds, qualifying rounds/mains) as this should give more than enough time to get a transponder from someone else, get it in, and get on the line. I'd like to be able to set up the races like you say but if it is possible I haven't figured out how yet. I've tried in the past but haven't come across a way to do it. It's funny though that even when some people CAN go get a transponder when no one is using theirs they still don't till right before they are up! I know how people feel and want to do it but maybe some of you guys should point the hints toward my partner and convince her. :)

I imagine some of the "chatter" was pointed toward how bored they were with the 1/12 scale cars too huh? If you say yes to that one I bet I could name a couple that were talking about that one.

Actually I dont recall anything said about the 1/12th scale cars...but now that you mention that they are boring......nevermind! LOL!!

I'll mention it at the next drivers meeting! LOL!!

what makes the 1/12 scale cars boring? lol just curious

Nothing...just the fact that theres only 2 of them.

8 minutes is just to long for most people to watch two cars run on a track without actually being behind the wheel I think. :)

When we gonna see you, Nic, and Angie Bruce?

wow, are all heats 8 minutes or just the 1/12? well, my neon is in the shop and has been there for 3 weeks now  and the ram is also in the shop  , so we are just waiting on them lol i really wanted to make if for the opening, cause i seen you had a real good tunr out, but we will try to be there as soon as we can, if the car or truck get done by sunday, we should be there then ;) if not, it should be soon

1/12 scales are the only class running 8 minutes. TC has gone to 5 minutes now but we are keeping the oval classes at 4.

Ya know Bruce, neon, ram.............I see a Dodge/shop pattern forming here. They make a cure for that, it's called C-H-E-V-R-O-L-E-T!

Only two less people this week than last so the season is starting out pretty well. Seemed like the track was a little "smoother" this week and Johna is soaking it down again today to see if that will help it out any. Some pretty fast racing went on and we had a couple new track records. Records fell in the 1/12 scale class as well as the TC mod class.

Another MARVELOUS turnout of racers again this week. As a matter of fact it is the best turnout we've ever had with an amazing 32 racers. This may not seem like a lot to some but if you've ever seen the pit space available to us you'd know how good this is! Johna shampooed the carpet again and it seems to have helped it immensely! The records should start falling now boy. :) We had three new track records this week. Dennis Himes broke his own record in the Modified touring car class, Kim Fortner lowered his time in the BuRP class by just .02 but it's still faster, and Courtney Morse is the new Pro stock truck class record holder. Heres hoping once the points start that we'll keep these tremendous crowds coming!

Not that it appears as though anyone is still looking at the thread here but here are the results of our races this week. We had another three track record this week with Courtney Morse lowering his time in Pro Stock truck, Tom Himes beating his brother Dennis' record in Modified TC, and Kim Fortner once again breaking his own record in the BuRP class. Turnout continues to be good and I thank everyone that keeps showing up.

...and a few thoughts.

I believe the "no return" rule might be backwards. Currently, durring the qualifiers, if you brake or have a problem that requires you to "pull off", you are permited to return to the race under a certain amount of time. And in the mains, if you "pull off", you are not permited to return at all. As stated before, I believe this should be just the reverse. As far a qualifiers, you can always fall back on another qualifier for your best time. So if you have problems in the first, you'll have another shot in the second and vice versa. When it comes to the main, every racer is going for broke. Quite literally in most cases. The running order can change quite a bit. Take last weeks 2wd class as a case in point. Durring a main, say, 20 laps in, you pop a link and your dog bone disconnects. You'd have to pull off the track. 10 laps later the leader brakes a front arm. If you could re-enter the race, you could take over the race, you've only missed 5 laps fixing that link, and improve your overall finishing position if not win that race. With qualifiers, we may be racing the clock, but it's in the mains where we're racing each other for position, points, and a racer buck. If we're going to keep the "no return durring the mains rule", I wanna see the black flag given to the guy that took me out.

Thoughts?

Donalbain

OvalmanPA
11-29-2002, 10:50 PM
How about the black flag for the guy that threw his car back out there after being off for ten laps and takes the leader out that has been out there for the whole race? Maybe it was even on purpose? I can see your point and I would have rather just kept it the way we had it, your off the track, your done.......qualifier OR main but I buckled to my partner and said we could try it for just the mains. Personnally, maybe it's just me, but I just figure it's common courtesy to remain off the track if something happens to my car. No matter how we have it some people aren't going to agree. Just my .02 :)

A little smaller crowd this week for our first week of points racing but great racing all around anyway. Track seemed to be a little slower with the colder weather too.

On a side note now. We are going to try having practices each week on Tuesday. We will begin this week and times will be from 4-7 PM. I say we are going to "try" this because if I'm only getting 3-5 people show up each week it's not going to be worth it to me to go down there. In other words if you want it to continue, show up and have some fun. :)

I didn't know you guys were still talking here.....I don't get out much

Good to see lots of racers showing up - hope it stays that way. 35 - 40 racers is a house full in that building though and it makes for a long day of racing. I'm sure we'll get faster as the season goes on, and I think the 2 minute rule will help alot. The biggest slow down is the exchange of transponders. Especially when people stay out on the track after their race for some hot laps. If you need their transponder for your race you have to wait. It's pretty much the same people every time. Too bad we can't split up the transponders so the next heat could be getting ready and be "on deck" the race before. I think thats how alot of other tracks do it. That would definately speed things along....Then there's always the guy (me) that's always B.S.ing or working on someone else's car, and isn't ready to race. The 2 minute rule will help keep them alert. I know noone wants to be a scrooge about it, but noone wants to spend 5-6 hours to race for 15 minutes total either. It's a common problem at all tracks and it's pretty much up to the race director to keep things moving. Another time consuming thing is switching the track from oval to onroad. Johna does a great job, but its so much faster if we all help. Have you ever seen any of the 1/12 scale or touring drivers out there helping to set up the course that theywant to race on?

k1m
12-02-2002, 09:19 PM
Donalbains logic on the "no return rule" makes sense to me. The first 2 heats are qualifiers, the third one is "The race". I have to agree with Ovalman too, though. If the corner marshall can't pop a ball back on or something real simple & quick like that, then take it off and fix it for the next race. It was pretty cool seeing Bryan's truck limp across the line on 3 wheels, though!

Donalbain: What did I miss in 2wd that week? Is that the week it was Chris,me, & you?

Practice nite sounds neat, hope people take advantage of it. It could be a ball!

Might even have to clean up Maxx! It smells like an elephant......

Well, acutally, I was enjoying working on them and pick them apart to learn what would and wouldn't work, as Darin is driving. I figured Darin's starting to pick up on the maintenance end, so maybe I'd give it a shot.

I split the front bulkhead hinge, the phenomenal trait of the XXT's. Had a decent spare, but when we replaced it I lost the hinge pin for the bottom, in my green case. We improvised to make it thru the main with a shorter pin. When we got home I found it, cleaned the truck all up. I think Darin musta took it out on the road as it had some dirt in it. BTW - That was the 1st truck Darin started out with 5 years ago. I figured I would take it out of mothballs.

Well, I don't plan on messing with Randy at first, as I'm only using 3/4 throttle and some older packs till I get a bit more used to it. Possibly in a few weeks I might shake him up and start using full bore with the greenmeany batterys.

BTW - Just as a second thought after I had already posted, this is going to seem strange, but Randy wants to race in the same heats as me.

Was pretty nice to see another new face in the Production class this year. Seems that's about the biggest class this year. You won't have to worry about Randy this week unless his parts come. He came down tonight at practice and showed me the busted up rear hub he had after last week. :) Seems it's also one of the parts that won't interchange with Losi on that Evader. :(

Yeah, I seen the hub. Sheared it right off of the top of the hub where the tie rod connects.

I'm thinking that the rear hub will transfer from a team associated, but he would need to modify a bit. I could be all wet.

I'm not really racing against anyone, just trying to have a little fun. I guess from what I noticed on the track Sun., I'm more racing against myself as I'm seeing what I can make the truck do on the track.

With the Tues. practices, I work nights so you probably won't see me at any of Tues. meetings

The size and shape are almost identical but unfortunately the bearings must be a different size or even metric. :(

Jcook
12-04-2002, 02:49 PM
I believe you are right, but if a guy was to shim the bearings with lets say electrical tape, he may be able to make the bearings fit, long enough for the part to come in.

The front wheels on the XXT that I ran last week were for a HPI. I took a bic pen, slivered off of the end and slipped the bearing in it, then slipped the whole assembly into the wheel. It seemed to work as you seen on the track.

You may want to suggest it to Randy, as I usually don't talk to him till race day, as he's on days and I'm on nights.

"Huked on cobble jobs.....It werkd for me"

Hehe, only problem with that theory is the Evader bearings are bigger than the Losi. :)

Jcook
12-04-2002, 10:52 PM
Hmmmmm, I wonder if a guy could dremel out the hole a bit to make the bearing fit. Realizing that you could not probably get it perfectly centered, but if his parts don't come, it may enable him to make sundays race. Just a thought.

BTW - Indivdual Cell Shrink Wrap, the ones for each cell, and some battery bars silver ones. Do you got any of these?

OvalmanPA

We have Deans Pro Bars (good bars) but no shrink wrap. Of course if you wanna buy a new pack of cells, they come with shrink. :)

How many bars come in a package...10 or more? I need enough to do 2 packs. I'll have to see if I can come across the shrink wrap somewhere. You have the battery bars at the track? I'll have Darin pick them up as Sun. I won't be there as I need to take Cory to Company Kids Christmas party on Sunday.

10 bars per package and yes we do have some at the track.

hey guys, it's been awhile but i have been really busy lately. glad to see your indoor track is doing good. i can't wait for the off road to start again, i am racing indoor now also at the track by helen and glen's shop in utica, pa. i will be over again this summer to race the off road and hopefully i will have the new b4 buggy. have you guys heard anything about it yet? i called associated and talked to a rep there and he said it is amazing. suppose to be the easiest to drive and best handling car out. we'll see though, they need to do something to keep up with you losi guys!!! i was going to get a xxx buggy then i heard about the b4 and i think i am going to stick with associated for now, what do you guys think? i am torn because i want a new buggy but i hate to buy now and regret it later. i like associated and losi and i have to give the edge to losi as it stands right now, very easy to drive and great handling but i am hoping that associated comes out with something that at least matches the losi. i'll let you know when i get one and bring it over to race. good luck with everything and have a great holiday.

That's what I like to see, a friendly exchange of information. :) Did I get your email address Pat? If I have that, I send out info on occasion on track happenings and when we start our different seasons so you can know when we start outdoors again.

Now, as far as the B4. The only info I have right now is what has been in the magazines. Still no eta on release that I've seen. The thing does look like it's going to be a pretty nice unit.

Twenty six people showed up to throw down on Sunday with some great racing going on throughout the day. I'm biased but I believe the best race of the day was in the 2wd stock A-main. Mr. Burrows beat me by a cool .10! I love races like that, watching OR racing in them. Only one new record this week with Dennis Himes retaking the track record in the Modified touring car class from his brother Tom.

I concur, Rick. The 2wd stock race (both heats too) were really clean and exciting. I just might throw a car together to run w/ you guys after the holidays. I think you know how I feel about running monster trucks on an oval anyway! LOL! Perhaps to keep with the spirit, I should see if I can find enough parts to resurrect my old LTO JRX-Pro SE! If I cant, or I get lazy it'll be some version of an Intimidator-10.
