Haha...........I sould have wished for something a little more worth while, like maybe $2,000,000 or something because for once my wish came true! Rained pretty dang hard for awhile and talk about wicked lightning. I think if we don't get any more the rest of the night now we'll still be able to run tomorrow. Track is going to need a little work before everyone gets here but it's all good. :)
scooby_cakes 08-03-2002, 02:20 AM Just goes to show sometimes you get what you wish for lol  I sure hope we are on for tomorrow, cause it feels like it has been forever since i have gotten to race, i'll call you in the morning just to make sure
OvalmanPA 08-04-2002, 01:45 PM One more person to make it 9 this week was all we had. I really think there is just to much more going on during the summer to get a good croud every week like we get in the winter. Three new track records this week too with Scooby breaking his own track record in the Production class (who says Rustlers don't fly :) ), Adam breaking his own record in the Stock truck class (a 12 is on the horizon!), and Donalbain breaking K1Ms record in the Stock buggy class. Great job guys!

scooby_cakes 08-07-2002, 09:51 PM Ya.. it was nice to have all the people we did when we first started racing, but i think the "regulars" will always be there, but like you said maybe people have a lot to do during the summer, but it would be nice to have a few more big turn outs!!! And as luck would have it I break down again in the main lol i think the mains have something out for me, but i'll get over it somehow lol hope to see more of you this saturday!!! btw, i know it's not for awile, but when does your indoor season start up? i dought i will be able to race there all the time, since i race here in warren, but i would like to stop a few times a month, just curious
scooby_cakes 08-09-2002, 04:33 AM Where is everyone ???
OvalmanPA 08-09-2002, 01:37 PM I'm still here...............we get started racing indoors in November.
OvalmanPA 08-10-2002, 08:24 PM Well we had a couple more people this week so our numbers are creeping up ever so slightly again. Still not up to where I'd like to see them but...........
Looks like stock truck is "The class" to race.

Donalbain 08-10-2002, 10:22 PM Racer's Edge club racers pulled a one, two punch today, dominating the 4 wheel drive monster truck racing event! We showed their canope who was boss too when a squirely truck would run into the poles and beam timing system!! It was a different format than what we're used to but we had a good time anyway. There was a two hour wait between our heats. No intermission. When you are taking <10 sec laps, 3 laps per heat, you really don't need much time to repeak the batts!!
OvalmanPA 08-11-2002, 01:09 PM Cool beans! Way ta show 'em Don and K1M. I'm guessing they must have had quite a few more people than they did last year? Btw, you didn't say WHO won? :)
We had a great time racing with the NRC/TPA. Don's right, their format is hard to get used to. There were 40-50 entries - the majority of them pullers with everything from electric power to dual .21 nitro and even gas chain saw engines. Some of the power train designs are pure genius, others looked like a good place to lose a finger!
Team Purple entered the Tuff truck 4wd division that consisted of drag strip like runs over various jumps down the pulling strip, around a traffic cone and back again. The runs were timed, with the quickest times of three runs counting for each of 3 rounds. Then the 3 rounds were added together, the lowest overall time determined the winner. The competition looked tough with several VERY custom Clod's (Progressive technology shocks, full roll cages, etc.)and several other EMaxx's. When the dust settled though, Don held the quickest time of the day with me second. I think Don's reference to their canopy poles was when I nearly took one out after getting crossed up on the first jump. I think he was the one who adjusted their timing system with his truck, though!
They all seemed friendly, helpfull, and there to have a good time. Joe even had some new jokes to fill in the slow points and corny as ever!:hat:
Here's a link to their website:

johnqpublic 08-11-2002, 08:13 PM Rick, One of these days, I'll make it back! Yesterday was the Summer Classic at Walt's in Syracuse...an annual good time w/ some very stiff dirt oval competition! I managed 5th in mod (out of approx 30), and 9th in stock (out of approx 60). Not a bad day, but could always be better. Anyway, next Sat. I have to help my future sister-in-law move to Pittsburgh (since she helped us move last month)!! The 24th is the fair, right?? We'll see about that one...you never know when I'll show up!
PB
scooby_cakes 08-12-2002, 02:33 AM another small turn out, but it was a good day for racing for angie and i anyways. i got my first 10 lap race and angie got her first 7 lap race.. i would like to come down on a thursday or friday night to practice if that would be possiable, more so for nicole, but for angie and i as well.. i'm not sure if you would have the lap times for angie and i's second race (our best ones) but if you do, could you post it for me, we were just curious.. thanks, see ya saturday.. Great job Don and Kim
OvalmanPA 08-12-2002, 01:39 PM K1M.............I see, he just didn't want to gloat over the win, that's why he didn't post it. :p I don't think the jokes could have been any worse than they were last year! LOL
Paul....the 24th is the fair race so see if you can make it down. Dunno if we'll have any 2wds so make sure you bring your truck, excuse me, "track packer" (forgot, this is oval). :D
Bruce.......sorry, no lap times. I've got to figure out how to get those on a disk. Your welcome to come over any night. Track is always open for practice, just make sure someone is here. Wednesdays seem to be pretty popular for practice. I believe Adam, Dean, and maybe Tim are going to try and come this week. Hey, just curious. Are you guys planning to come again this week to race? A neighbors grandson is here and I'm gonna try and get him some racing Saturday with our track truck.
scooby_cakes 08-12-2002, 04:24 PM Ya, we will be there saturday to race.. is he going to race production? i think it would add some more excitement to the 540 class to have an extra racer there... I heard it was going to rain this saturday though, but lets just hope thats just a rumor lol
scooby_cakes 08-12-2002, 09:38 PM Rick, one more thing.. would you happen to have any turnbuckles that would fit the front of nicoles rustler? so i can switch them stupid plastic no adjustable ones? thanks:thumbsup:  oh ya.. would you happen to have anything that my sis and girlfriend could stand on when they race ( i wouldn't mind it either lol) so they could see the track better? cause the barn has been messing up the radios and thats the only place they could really see from.. like we could move them cement blocks to stand on or if you had a picnic table or something to that effect that we could use, we would be more then happy to move everything and move it back when we are done. thanks a ton :D
OvalmanPA 08-13-2002, 01:43 PM Yes he'll be racing production, that's why I wondered if you guys were coming. As far as something to stand on, we are planning a temporary drivers stand made from those cement blocks and pallets. If it doesn't rain we are going to be working on that Friday so hopefully it will be ready Saturday. I have some spare turnbuckles but don't know if they'll fit.
scooby_cakes 08-13-2002, 07:18 PM ok, cool.. i was thinking of coming down on friday for some practice, so if i get the chance to come down, i can help with putting that togeather for ya
Donalbain 08-14-2002, 08:08 AM Same here.
OvalmanPA 08-14-2002, 02:26 PM Not sure when we'll be getting started on it, it might not be till the afternoon (Johna taking camper to fair grounds in morning) but you guys are more than welcome to give us a hand.
scooby_cakes 08-14-2002, 02:51 PM ya, if all goes well, i didn't plan on coming down till the afternoon anyways. we could come up with a time to meet or what not Donalbain
(even though i'm not sure who you are) lol hope to see you friday:thumbsup:
scooby_cakes 08-16-2002, 05:07 PM hey, rick and Donalbain, sorry i couldn't make it down.. i got called into work and angie had to go to the doctors office. bad news about nic too, she is in erie at the beach all weekend, so it will be angie and i in production.. i'm going to see if dori (the girl that comes with us sometimes) will race instead off me though.. i hope the drivers stand went up ok, i think that will help a ton.. see you all tomorrow

scooby_cakes 08-17-2002, 12:42 AM It's not looking to good for tomorrow  why is it that it only seems to rain on friday nights and saturdays??? rain rain go away, we want to race today!! well, i'll call you before we leave, but it's not looking to good.. keep the faith though:thumbsup:
OvalmanPA 08-17-2002, 07:38 PM Ricks stupidity 1 - racing 0
I'm sorry for those of you that showed up today and then we didn't race. I made a judgement call and now that I look back at it, it was the wrong call. This afternoon after Don and Adam had run several packs on it, it really "came in" and looked very good. Again, I'm sorry but you have to look at it from where I'm coming from. One is, there was NO sun this morning and I was afraid as wet as it was that it was going to be a mess. If there would have been even a HINT of sun before I made the call we would have raced probably. Two is I had already told those that called we wouldn't be racing (kind of late to change my mind then). Three is I was worried about a marshal going flat on their back and getting hurt. And finally, our turnouts have been in the 7-9 people area as of late. The way the track looked at the beginning of the day, I couldn't see running with only that amount of people again. How was I to know that there would have been probably 14-15 (at least) entries racing today and the track would come back to us? It's basically one of those things that we are danged if we do and danged if we don't. It's a crap shoot on if things will come around or be aweful. I guess basically from now on, if it isn't raining at 9 in the morning we will probably be racing. Your best bet though is to call ahead and make sure we will be running. Hope to see some of you at practice tomorrow at the fair.
scooby_cakes 08-18-2002, 01:39 AM Ya, by the way warren looked it was a nice day to race, but i had no clue what it would be like in smethport.. i just hope it don't rain or anything for next saturday, cause i know i'm really looking forward to that one.. a few ?'s though, will they have electric down there? and should i bring my own table and stuff or will they have a set up for that too? and what time do i have to be there to sign in and everything? thanks, and hope to see everyone there next saturday
OvalmanPA 08-18-2002, 11:28 AM Just one here for a few minutes while I charge packs so......
Electric....yes
Table....bring your own
Time....I'd suggest the same time frame as here, sign up by 12:45
You should charge a couple packs and come practice today. I'll be there around 1:00 and Chris and Kim are coming too I think.
Chris & I had some real all out bashing R/C fun today at the fairgrounds racetrack on practice day. It always amazes me that more people don't take advantage of that track. It's a perfect size oval for 1/10 scale racing, long enough straights to wind the motors up tight, and tight enough turns to make you use alittle "finesse" to get it around and stay in the fast grove. AND IT'S FREE!! We ran our EMaxx's and stadium trucks and had a BALL! We both run older generation Losi's almost completely stock, and they were perfectly matched on the oval. Neither one of us could gain on the other unless there was driver error. It made for some exciting wheel to wheel racing, trying different lines to gain the advantage!! There were a half dozen kids watching that were more than eager to corner marshall for us too! The Maxx's were outrageous! After a gearing change, we were running the oval almost flat out in 2nd gear!! The Maxx's throw dirt and stones in a huge cloud of dust at that speed, I can only imagine a whole hurd - we're talking carnage I think. "PLEASE STEP BACK FROM THE WALL".... I can't wait!! The "offroad" consists of a turn into the center at turn 3 of the oval with an easy double jump, a 90 deg right and a jump back into turn 1 of the oval. Not very impressive at all after running on Racer's Edge's track but the spectators seem to like it.
Maxx damage: That steel boiler plate wall is still plenty sturdy. I took the toe out of my right rear and bending the ball end by slapping the wall on one of many "on the edge of out of control" power slides! 1 - 2 deg toe out on the right rear is NOT a good setup! Chris supplied me with a replacement and I'm good to go again.
Rick: I was afraid that would happen Sat. but I know where you're comming from. The weather's not an easy call to make for anyone. Look at it this way: If you say we're racing, and everyone shows up but it keeps raining, then it's the Damn weather. If you say we're not racing and it clears off then it's Damn you.
I thought of another Maxx part I'll bet we can break...#4932 axle carriers & steering blocks. Think I've broken that part on every R/C I've ever owned except the XXX-T.
Scooby: Bring your own pit setup and an extension cord. Pit out of your vehicle or canopy in case of hot sun/rain. Don't try to pit too close to the tracks turns. Gearing suggestion for stock truck - start out 2 teeth more on pinion than Ricks track and go from there. There'll be lots of good food and plenty of other things going on too.
scooby_cakes 08-18-2002, 10:14 PM sounds sweet  so it's just an oval then with some jumps on it? i wish i could of made it down for some practice today. i think i'll just show up early on saturday and run it a few times before things start.. i hope there is a nice turn out.. c u all then
Donalbain 08-19-2002, 07:59 AM Any word on the Port Allegany Glass Festival? Still don't have a date on the site.
OvalmanPA 08-19-2002, 01:36 PM I believe it's September 21st for the Glass Fest but we still have to confirm. Maybe they won't even want us to come over.
Scooby............oval track with a jump section through the center portion.............you'll understand once you see it.
K1M.......that little track is fun isn't it? I do pretty good with the "pede" but the lugs catch my slide half way through the turn and turn my power slide into a push. :)
tville 08-19-2002, 01:36 PM which day do you guys race sat or sun? i would like to get over there on the last weekend of the month. there are 4 of us from titusville that would like to come try out your track, it looks awesome. 3 of us run stock buggy and one runs stock truck. i run mod buggy also so these classes are of most interest to us. hope to hear from you guys soon.
tville: We're racing on saturdays this summer. I believe that would be Aug 31st, See you guys then! Here's a link to Racers Edge's schedule:
http://www.racersedgerc.com/schedule.html
OvalmanPA 08-19-2002, 07:00 PM Hi, like K1M said, Saturdays are our race days during the summer months. Stock buggy and truck shouldn't be a problem but we might have to rustle up a couple guys to run mod buggy with you. I'd be more than happy to throw in my 14D again to raise a little roost. :) It's looking like a smaller pin tire is going to work pretty well. Right now I'm running Losi IFMAR pins on my XXCR and they seem to hook up pretty well as long a the track has a little moisture in it. It seems when it dries out, with the dust that's on it, there isn't a whole lot that does hook up.
Oh yes.......I forgot to mention to everyone. We now have a drivers stand........well two of them actually. We used pallets (full floor) on cement blocks to create a pretty stable stand and from what those have used it have said, it helps some to see the track better. It's not 4' tall or anything but I think it will help.
tville 08-20-2002, 08:47 AM thanks for the replies. we will definately try to make it on the 31st. about the track, do you sweep it between rounds, that really helps keep the dust off of it and improves the traction a lot. i have been to tracks that water over the dust and it makes for traction on the first few laps but then it loosens up and it goes back to dust. at the tracks that sweep them the traction is awesome especially with a clay surface. i run ifmar pins on the dusty stuff and the losi x2000 on the clay base, they really hook up good. i will see you guys then. if you need any volunteers if you do sweep the track i'm in, i will gladly help out to keep the track in good shape.
OvalmanPA 08-20-2002, 01:22 PM We usually water between rounds. Without the moisture, the track just doesn't seem to have a lot of traction. When we get enough water on it, it stays nice for a whole round of heats.
tville 08-20-2002, 03:25 PM have you tried brooming it at all, i think you would find a lot more traction if you did. watering is good but you might find more traction by just brooming. when you water without brooming you cover up all the dust that has been stirred up and the water doesn't soak in as well to the base. just an idea to help with the traction problem. i will help sweep if you decide to when we come race, it makes the process a lot quicker when people help broom.
scooby_cakes 08-20-2002, 04:33 PM WHAT IS UP WITH THIS???? Saturday
Partly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 70s. :( :o  I have been looking forward to this one all season...
OvalmanPA 08-20-2002, 05:30 PM Maybe we'll have to give that a try. This is our first year running an off road track so we'll take most any advice we can get.
tville 08-21-2002, 10:54 AM this weekend isn't looking good at any of the tracks. i hope i get to race somewhere that it isn't raining. i can't wait to come to your new track. i was talking to glen and helen from hooter chassis last night and they said you guys always run good tracks. they spoke very highly of you guys/girls. i bet if you called doug mccullough at mcculloughs offroad he would help you with any problems you have with your track. they run some big events there during the summer. my girlfriend just got a truck to run, is there a beginner class there. she has never raced before. well, good luck with the weather this weekend and hopefully we will see you next weekend the 31st.
OvalmanPA 08-21-2002, 11:22 AM tville...............yes we do run a beginners class, Production. It is basically any car or truck chassis but you must run a 540 "tin can" motor and a 6 cell battery pack. We have had a couple other girls frequenting this class so your girlfriend would fit right in. I even have a spare motor I'd loan out for the day. The only problem with these motors is that you have to "hog" out the motor plate just a little so they will fit. If you don't want to go that way, she may even want to run our "track truck" that is all ready for our Production class unless it's already in use that weekend. Haven't seen Glen and Helen since February. They are good people and I had hoped putting in an off road would bring them up this way a couple times. :) Guess we gotta put in a pulling track now. :D
tville 08-21-2002, 01:54 PM yeah helen and glen are really cool people. they are so busy with the pulling that they don't get to go to a lot of outdoor races in the summer. i know they would come for a pulling event though, they really enjoy that. my girlfriend isn't a real good driver and i would probably have to rebuild your track truck for you at the end of the day from all the damage she would cause. i will get a 540 to work in there. i have an old one from a kit that i will make fit. sounds like the perfect learning class for her. thanks for the offer though.
The "Collective Desire To Race" will prevail for the race Saturday! We're looking at Cloudy - 78 deg & NO RAIN!! Tried to get ahold of KSG to twist his arm into joining us, but he's stil AWOL. It'd be cool to get all 4 EMaxx's together at once! Maybe I can convince Donalbain to give Maxx Oval a try, I think Chris is already sold.
tville:
Too bad you guys can't make it this weekend too, the Fair race is a once/year event that's always a good time.
Glen & Helen were a great help to us at the Can/Am's, they made us feel right at home and even watched our gear while we checked out the other festivities. Good people!
Donalbain 08-23-2002, 08:12 AM I plan to be there. With Maxx and Mod Buggy? It may be a tad damp in the morning, so says NPR, but I believe it'll be just fine come race time.
tville 08-23-2002, 09:36 AM this weekend sounds like fun but i am busy or i would come out. i should be there next sat. at your track. i can't wait to race a new track, should be fun. i will see everyone. hope the weather holds out for your race on sat. let me know how it goes.
OvalmanPA 08-23-2002, 01:13 PM Just glad I don't have to make the call on this one............
KSG said he may be able to make it over if he gets a few puters delivered. Dang college stupidents anyway. :)
scooby_cakes 08-23-2002, 07:11 PM I just finished puting my new TC3 togeather, talk about having sore thumbs lol i took me about 5 hours, but i think it turned out great, the paint job i did even impressed me.. i let a friend use my digi cam, but i'll post a pick of it so you can all check it out when i get it back.....
I think the R/c gods have it out for us... i swear it only rains from thursday to sunday anymore. I think angie and i will make the drive either way, just to be sure, cause we have been looking forward to this one. I'm not sure if my friends and family will make it though  but they will be at yours rick next saturday. Lets just hope for the best tomorrow. hope to see you all there and racing !!!
Beautiful day to race.....
Track conditions were near perfect even though it lightly rained in the morning........."CDTR"!!
Da Track:
The turnout was "fair" - sorry, couldn't resist! The R/C race always draws a crowd, around the track and in the pits.
scooby_cakes 08-24-2002, 08:04 PM so how was the turn out? i thought for sure they wouldn't have it.. i called the fair this morning and they said it was raining and that if it kept raining the probably wouldn't have it.. plus, i have a friend who is in the hospital, so i stayed for that too, but it does make me  to know that you guys were there racing when i thought for sure you wouldn't be.. i say we make a point of it to have next saturday the biggest turn out yet lol ONCE AGAIN, THIS STINKS.. even a scooby snack wouldn't bring me around:cry:
I didn't get much time to take pix while we were racing, Joy took this shot during the EMaxx Oval. There was a soft spot in turn 4 that would really make the maxx's bicycle (up on 2 wheels). At full speed in 2nd gear the Maxx's really become a handfull and the only way to drive out of a bicycle is to turn to the outside (right) and give it throttle. I was trying to do that but ended up over the wall and right into the drivers stand. It hit so hard the three of us moved, I swear! Check out Chris stance! He always does hold his radio kinda strange cause he's a lefty, but he's all humped up in this pic cause he thinks it's gonna hurt!! Hehehehe!
Had an excellent time as always, thanx to Racers Edge and Bill Kolher. It was a fairly profitable day too.:D
