Another light turnout for our off road racing this week but all those in attendance (ok maybe not a couple nitro guys) had a good time I think. We even had K1Ms wife here to throw down with the guys and she did pretty well for not liking dirt. It's to bad Scooby and his girlfriend had to leave early since it was only two in the B after that but we all know, sometimes work comes first. :) You better step it up Donalbain...............new Electric Maxx track record for K1M! :D

Just a reminder that we won't be racing on the off road track next Saturday (July 20) but we'll be in Kane at the Kanefest on Sunday (July 21) for parking lot racing. Let's hope we get the turnout for this race that we have the last couple years so we can put on a good show for the many spectators that always come to watch.

Yes, as much as i hate to say it, sometimes work comes before R/c :( And i wasn't doing very hot that day anyways lol so where is this Kanefest held at? i know the kane part lol i'm not sure if i can make it or not, but it's something for me to kick around lol Is there any chance of our shirts being ready the next time we race down there? thanks, scooby

OvalmanPA

If you ever go into Kane it is at the school right beside the Park (middle school?). If you come up 6 from Warren you will want to go right through Kane and turn right just past the railroad tracks (as I remember  ), go down past the park, make a left, and another left at the next street. There may be sawhorses at the end of this street but you'll want to go in past them and down to the parking lot on the right side of the street.

No chance on shirts being ready. We usually have to have I believe 20 items for the order so it may be a few weeks.

Ok, how is the turn out going to be down there? Is it like an arts and crafts thing or somthing like that & you just happen to race at or is that the whole point of it is to race? and what time do you have to sign up by? cause i usually work on sundays, but i might be able to get the day off, i never raced in front of a bunch of people lol and you can put me down for one extra large shirt too;) i noticed that kim had his name on his, is that something he did himself or can you have that done? thanks, scooby

It's basically a little festival, food, games, etc. They may even have a couple little carnival rides. Turnout is anybodies guess. I'd like to have 100 people but until people show up there is no telling how many we'll have. Signup by 12:45 just like Saturday racing. I'll try to remember about the shirt but make sure I've put it down the next time you come to race. You'll have to talk to K1M about the name thing but I'm pretty sure his Sister did it for him.

You've gotta check out the other side of Racer's Edge summer racing series, Kanefest Sunday July 21 in Kane, Pa. It's going to be an on road blacktop track aprox 50ft X 75ft that you MAY be able to run soft foam carpet tires. If it's going to be hot you might want to pick up a set of rubber tires though. The BuRPS (1/18 scale mini racers) will be there, and I hear there will be at least one HPI micro for them to munch on! :D And they are hungry! They haven't seen much action since the race at BRP World Headquarters in Elyria, Ohio.
I was hoping to bring my 1/4 scale R/C Bigfoot, but after overcoming several drive problems, now the 1/4 scale steering servo turns right, but when I turn left it doesn't move and it sounds like KSG's EMaxx!:D Speaking of: What an Elephant race, huh? Man, we were trunk to tail the whole race, and KSG grabbed the win in the last turn!
And He Didn't Break!!! Look at it this way John, it's nearly 1/2 domestic by now.
Scooby: Once you get your shirt, you can get your name on it here: http://home.adelphia.net/~hucker/index.html

Thanks, kim, i'll have to look into that.. My Uncle knows a guy that has a machine that can put photographs on t-shirts, i think i'll have him put a pic of the track or one of everyones trucks on it  also, i would love to see that 1/4 scale monster truck you have. Maybe some weekend you can bring it down to the track, so i can check it out (working or not lol)

KSG: aka-Big Daddy lol did you have happen to find a extension cord last saturday, i think i might of left one plugged in at your table, no biggy, i was just looking for it today and was wondering what happened to it:) I'm hoping to get out of work sunday so i can check out the old kanefest.. , maybe ill see you all there.

Oval: I'm looking into getting a new ESC, since i just bought a JR Xr2 radio.. i'm thinking about getting a Super Rooster, any thoughts on that?

Kanefest is comming, the only thing Kane has to look forward to all year.
Not to mention the biggest festival in 1.5 mile radius.
Lots to eat, great hot sausage sub ( Kane Fire Dept.) and usually lots of other things to do and eat. Maybe not in that order.

K1m - that was the funest race I have been in, in a long time :D

Scobby_cakes - first of all what is up with that name (scobby cakes) sounds like a bedroom name...."Come here scoobycakes...." LOL
But the answer to the question, no I don't have your extension cord, but I did find it and gave it to Johnna, that is Ovalmans lovely assistant. So she has it for you. I thought it was yours.

BuRP Nationals at Kanefest.....kind of has a nice ring to it.

Well... Big Daddy :D I'm as much of a scooby cake as you are a surf guru lol but my nickname has been scooby and on yahoo, i went to add scooby or scooby snacks, but they were both already taken, so scooby cakes was the next best thing  But thanks for leaving my extension cord with the "lost and found" I think watching the "BuRP Nationals" is reason enough to go to the "ever famous Kanefest"

Sounds like I missed some great racing! Can't wait for the next off-road race. Hope Chris can join in the elephant racing soon.

I plan on racing TC and BuRP @ Kanefest.

Anyone going the the Erie County Fair for MT races?

Well look at this.........there ARE still some people reading our thread. Was beginning to think it was just me and Scooby reading here anymore.

Scooby............we have your extension cord here at the track. Let me know and I can bring it with us this weekend or you can just get it at the next off road race. Don't know much about the Super Rooster (I assume you want reverse huh?) but if it's like every other Novak product it would be a quality unit for you.

Don...Chris won't be back to race off road till August now. He has something going every Saturday till then but he'll be there at the Kanefest race. BTW, you did miss one HECK of a good race. That was the best race all day and it only had two cars in it! We'll be racing during Erie Co. Fair. :(

I believe I heard Ovalman, say that if we didn't get enough touring cars that would be ok with him. That way they wouldn't have to change over to the road course, and we could have a BuRP Oval Nationals right here in Kane..... I believe I'm just going to run BuRP, less hassle setting anything else up, and a lot more time to eat my way around the festival  That is all for now........

OvalmanPA
07-19-2002, 01:25 PM
KSG did you forget some words in there or somrthing? I'm not sure I completely understood that first sentence. :) I believe I remember saying that if we didn't get any touring cars then we'd probably just run the BuRPs on oval (if everyone agrees to that). I kind of like the road course myself but I'm only one person. As for me.....BuRP only.

I am going to move the Track Talk discussions back to the regular areas. The split has made both areas less active at this point doesn't seem to be helping very much. As long as they are active they will still be easy to find and you can bookmark this discussion if you like to make it even easier to find.

It was a good experiment that just doesn't work well in practice.

We didn't have as good a turnout of racers as we usually do in Kane but boy did we have BuRPs. We had 15 racers all together and 11 of those people ran BuRP. Seems these little cars keep becoming more and more popular here. Beautiful day to race other than it was HOT and the spectators got to see some good racing. Back to off roading next Saturday now!

We had a terrific time at Kanefest racing the BuRPs. The sun was hot and so was the racing. Seemed funny to run the BuRPs on the big oval but it was a gas!! We don't run them nearly enough. I was trying several different lines to gain speed and trying to be real smooth. Not smooth enough though, one bad tangle and I was 1/2 lap behind! I was beginning to catch back up, but ran out of time. Chris ran a great race - He Da Man

Hey Paul, you are still around. I was just about to e-mail you and ask if you were ever going to come join us but one day when I was browsing the dirtoval.com site I came across a post that you were in the process of moving. Everybody seems to be having a real good time. Stock truck seems to be the most consistantly run class so bring your stocker. Mod seems to be sporatic. Maybe a lot of people thought that, since there was a low turn out, no stock trucks at all? no nitro? i would of ran mod too:rolleyes: I still need to try out my stuff, i bet it didn't take long to get through the day lol what maybe an hour...

Actually they decided to run stock and mod truck together, no nitro though. Justin was talking to K1M and driving at the same time (something he apparently can't do) and ran into the FINAL turn on the FINAL lap. This wreck allowed Adam who was running a close second by for the win. It was quite comical but I don't think Beavis thought so as much. :) We took a little break between qualifiers to let everybodies motor cool some.

K1M.......dunno why you were directing that comment about "motor not making a difference" at me (if you were) because I wanted to run the class separate. Of course if we wouldn't have had a couple that refused to run a stock motor......

BTW....K1M, I decided I needed to put a whip antenna on my buggy. Did this after everyone left.........glitch solved. Now what I can't figure out for the life of me is, why did I never have any problems when running the 14d??

I had a great time in my first "non-oval" race, in almost 15 years of racing! Wow, thats a lot harder than I thought it'd be, but I think I was starting to get the hang of it!

Hey, rick, by chance do you have a Rear Suspension Mount 3-3 for a T3 at your hobbie shop? If not could you order me a left and a right one and if so would it be here by saturday? I was looking over my truck last night and i noticed that right one was cracked, thanks a ton, scooby:wave:

Scooby......I believe those are the "stock" mounts aren't they? If I'm not mistaken we have two sets in stock. We have most parts for the B3/T3 cars now.

"If you build it they will come"

We were hoping that and DID build it, it's the people coming that isn't happening. We appreciate those that continue to support us week in and week out. I know some people can't make it every week but we aren't pulling as many new people in as I had hoped either. We'll give it at least two summers or more I imagine but racing with eight people isn't hardly worth it. Of course that's not as bad as going clear to Cuba and only having seven or eight! :)

Paul.........you better come again or we might have to auction off your chair.

Motors matter in ANY other form of racing I can think of........

Scooby: Pretty cool having a well stocked hobby shop with the parts you need when you need them, huh? That's worth alot!! And no shipping!!

JohnQ: You did real well for your first try at offroad!! Welcome to the 3rd dimension of R/C racing!(up and down and right turns)you got a smokin' deal on ebay, man!!

The new sway bars have my EMaxx nailed in the turns, but have made the suspension too stiff for the jumps, I should have taken more time with it but looser swaybars and less spring preload should help alot. I might even unhook the front and try it. I think we might have to take The EMaxx to Hamburg, Ny to the Monster truck races Aug 10 and see how it does!!

So, did you get the XX4 ready to go again?

k1m
07-30-2002, 08:51 PM
Nope, looks like I trashed another side belt. I really thought I was running the slipper too tight before, but now I wonder. Last time I kept tearing up belts in the Street Weapon, it was because the pulleys must have been worn, we'll see. It should be running by the Mckean County Fair race I hope! Speaking of which, we should let everyone know about pre-entry so they can save some $$ if they're going to race. I believe we have to register by Aug 10 for the race Aug 24th? If we pre-enter, it costs $8 but that includes the gate entry fee (exibitors pass) which is good for the whole week.

Scooby & JohnQ: The Fair grounds dirt track is a fun little bullring with 1-2ft steel plate wall surrounding it. It's a great dirt oval track when it gets alittle TLC. There's always quite a crowd of onlookers and you get to take in the festivities after the race if you want. First place pays $10!

Ovalman: What class will the EMaxx's be ID #6 - Off Road??

Kim Thats right there in smethport isn't it? and how far away from ricks track is that? i have never been to the Mckean County Fair before, but if i have nothing to do that day, i'll be there ;) so it's just a dirt oval track then? and will it just be the regulars that come to race now or where there be more? just curious, but i'll try to make it... and ya, that is nice that rick has a little hobbie shop to get stuff, i mean there is one here in warren and a nice one in jamestown, but i'm all about supporting OVALMANS store

The fair grounds are located in east Smethport, and the R/C track is just outside turn 4 of the Mckean County Fair Raceway. The oval track has a turn into the center with a couple of jumps that makes up the "off road". The turnout depends on how much it's promoted of course, but some of the regulars will be there and usually (hopefully) several others. Last year there were several gas Monster trucks there, but after they saw the electric trucks run, they packed up and left!!??? In years past, there has been good turnout for the fair race.

OvalmanPA
07-31-2002, 01:27 PM
Yes we should probably mention something about the McKean County Fair race. It really does depend on how many times you plan on coming to the fair IMO on getting the pass. Just so everyone knows, if you do prefer to not "pre-enter" you can still come and sign up that day. I believe Bill was using a set price as opposed to whatever the normal fee is. I can't remember for sure what it was but $2.50 comes to mind (don't quote me). If you do want to go to the fair a couple times during the week however it would pay you to pre-enter and get a weekly pass otherwise it will cost you $7 every time you want to go. We usually always have a practice day on the first day of the fair which will be August 18th this year. If you would like to practice, this is the time to do it because it doesn't cost anything to get in the first day.

To get to the track, go past the first gate into the fairgrounds and procede to the second. Make a right onto the grounds, go past the 4-H horsebarn and ring and you should be able to see the track directly down this road on the left before you get to the full size racetrack. Track is available any time during the week to practice but any other day but that Sunday will cost you $7 to get in (unless you get the weekly pass).

K1M.....E-Maxxes would probably be most fun in the off road class I guess so yes, off road. Not going to run the XX4 between now and then? Sure would be nice to widen out that off road course a little this year like we mentioned last year. What you say I get ahold of Bill in the next week or so and see if he wants some help preparing the track then I can let everyone know and have a track day??

hey, what all classes do they run there? will they have a production class for my sis and girlfriend to run? just curious, cause i think we will all be going for sure.. I think it will be just my sis and i this weekend, so i might run both production and stock, so she has someone to race with   one more thing... will there be a "swap meet" at the offroad track this year, like you do at your carpet track? cause i am looking for a used pan/touring car to race this indoor season:D

KIM- oval told me to ask you about how you like using belt drive cars.. cause i was trying to figure out what is best, belt or drive shaft, cause i was leaning towards getting a losi xxx-s or a Tc3, thanks

k1m,
I actually ran on that track about 3 or 4 years ago...as I recall it was kinda rough. I had 4 short shocks on an old Losi Pro SE...I was bouncin all over!! LOL!

It looks like at one time, someone put a lot of work into that track, w/ the steel walls and all. It would be cool, if someone could refurbish it and have regular racing.

Scooby......we do have a Production class at the fair along with stock truck, mod truck, 2wd stock, 2wd mod, and off road. Don't think we are going to have a swap meet at the end of off road but a picnic is being talked about for the last day.

Paul.........what it needs is to have a load of the clay we put on our off road dumped on it and rolled in good to get rid of the stone problem. Could be a nice track if it had some work more than once a year. I don't want to be the one involved though with where it is at and the fair association.

Saturday is to be sunny and in the 80's according to the local paper. Should rain tonight. That means OMPA doesn't need to water the track tonight! Can't wait. Need....to run..MAXXXX.
