Hey Polli, I don't know how much of a pain it might be, but have you tried taking the GT7 out of the BK2 and putting it in the XXX4? Just to see if it's the ESC?

OvalmanPA
06-10-2004, 06:28 PM
Nopper.......sorry. Like we said before, there isn't much interest in 1/8 scale. :( Yes we have plugs at the shop. MC8s (medium cold) and Sure Fire #3s (hot).

Polli...........a glitch is a terrible thing to diagnose isn't it? Like SD said, I think I'd try switching ESCs next and see what happens. How about switching receivers between cars? Might even be the servo........

Ok thanks rick i will probally have to come down and get one break-in on the .26 killed mine well eventually there will be a buggy class i got one and my buddy is getting one so maybe intrest will catch on who knows we will have to wait and see

I put a new reciever into the xxx4, same deal. Taking the gt7 out of the bk2 isnt really an option because I'd have to rewire/add wire to it to get it to fit in the xxx4. I can however take the gt7 out of the xxx4 and put it in the bk2. I dont really wanna mess with the BK2, it's perfect the way it is, even though my driving skills arent lol :) I've already swapped servos back at the beginning of this "Glitch War", so I guess the only thing left is the esc and its lead wire and maybe putting a ferrite core magnet around it. uggh

Anoter pretty good turnout of racers this week! Things started off a little hairy as we had a little water pass through between 9:30-10 but the rest of the day was great. The track was a little better to start the day and the track records that fell (five) proved that. Let us hope our luck holds out now for the rest of the season as far as the weather is concerned.

Yea, I saw that, wish I could have made it. I was still battling my glitch problems up till about 4pm. I think I got it taken care of though. I swapped out the esc lead wire from the gt7, set the drive profile to #1, re-did the one touch set up and took the heat sink off the motor. I stood about a hundred feet away from the car and tried to get the glitch to come back. It didnt. So hopefully the glitch war is over!

Polli.......good to know. Let's hope that you did finally get that glitch gone.

Andy.........you said you saw smoke? Well I saw more today when I charged a couple packs after drying things all off and letting it sit overnight. It didn't really smell much after it happened but it does now. The only good news out of the deal is it appears (so far) that the receiver, servos, and motors are ok. I switched to the spare VX12 out of the other Maxx but I'll be saving for a new EVX now. :drunk: Don't forget your brown crystals next week!

Man, I really thought it'd be a gas truck that ended up in the water first! :( Do you think that orange fence would have stopped it Rick? I didn't see it happen, but if your EMaxx went for the creek at full throttle the fence may have only slowed it down alittle. I gotta say, I would have been PISSED! Too bad you couldn't save the ESC, it was worth a try anyway. Does Traxxas still service those or just replace them with EVX ?

Yeah there was smoke cause that one kid that came with nicole he went in the creek and got it and handed it to me and Sugar D said to unplug it and I got the body off and there was a little smoke before I pullled the plugs. I'm glad to hear it was just the ESC even though that's still pretty bad. And I got my crystals out of the evader and in the maxx:thumbsup:

Do you think that orange fence would have stopped it Rick?
Nope. It jumped the track and went under the fence into the field behind the barn, then it went in the creek. The orange fence didn't block that far over.

Sorry to hear about the ESC Rick.

OvalmanPA
06-15-2004, 07:54 PM
Nope the orange fence wouldn't have done any good in this case. It went out through the pipe right at the lower corner by the crick (PA speak there). Of course we found out once last year that the fence doesn't do much for Maxxes anyway as Donalbain will attest to. Remember the week Elguapo tackled his as it headed for the water right next to the bridge? :) EVX is all I can do now.

Thanks for the sympathy over my loss SD. It was a good little VX12. Lost to the water gods as the magic smoke was let loose. May it RIP.........

Hey, guys, stupid question from an out of towner. It looks like you have a special Mini-T track from the results; what's it like? Are those things a good place to start off-road, assuming you beef them up to avoid breakage?

Again, I'm hoping (dreaming?) of making it over there this summer, but I've gotta get wheels, while Wil runs my XXX (dang kid is WAY better'n me). And the Mini-Ts look so cool.

Polli.........really? They had the same tranny in the BK and MF (2.43) so why the surprise? :)

Hi Nil......we actually run part of the off road track as the Mini-T track. I figured it would be best to shorten the track up for them to keep interest higher and besides, I think running the whole track would be boring with the little guys. :) I guess they would be a pretty good starting spot for off road. They are cheap to buy and run pretty well. The only thing I don't like about them is the non-interchangable electronics, no bearing in the wheels, and they come with friction shocks rather than good oil filled units. They are actually surprisingly durable as I've seen K1M beat the hell out of his the last couple weeks and he only has a few upgrades (BRP front bumper, different electronics, BRP shocks, help me out K1M........that it?).

k1m
06-17-2004, 09:15 PM
Hi Nil: Good to see you found your way back here. Like Ovalman said, the mini-t part of the off road is alittle less than half the regular course, but it still requires you to go under a bridge (out of sight) and over jumps and a tabletop. But we shortcut at one point to come back to the bridge instead of over a monster triple and bumpy section and the rest of the track. It's almost all left turns but it's alot of fun. Looks like step pin tires are gonna work good......if you keep your eye on your truck and not try to drive the wrong one (like me). :p Joy and I are both running BRP shocks, tierods, and bearings. We also changed out the cheap electronics for some real stuff. She's got one of Bud's bumpers up front and I put a Trinity steering link on mine. They're alot of fun, but you have to beef them up abit to be able to run them hard without breaking.

I think we'll be coming out to Ohio to race with you "outlaws" on July 17. Since we'll be racing Mini-T's and BRP's that weekend, maybe we can convince some of the others there to do a road trip to Racer's Edge this summer.

Hey, k1m:

Glad to hear you'll be making it back. We don't know what we'll be doing for dogs this time, with 2sl00w (temporarily) out of the picture. Just don't let Bud near the grill!

Our first race (less rain out) came off pretty well, but the turn out was actually better when it was raining! I finished last (well, duh!). But I was the best driver there that didn't start 'til he was 50!

Sprint cars look to be the hot thing this year, but we have yet to see how the Mini-Ts will be.

Well gee, I stand corrected :). For some reason I thought the MF was geared lower than the BK. I musta been thinkin of the ol xx days. Didnt the xx have a 2:19 and the xxt hava a 2:43? Or is my memory just maikin stuff up as it goes along? My memory hasn't been serving me well these days

Polli you been workin' at GKN to long............yer memories goin' man! :) When the XX/XXCR/XXT/XXTCR were the new kids on the block the cars had different tranny ratios. 2.19 for the buggy and 2.61 for the truck. Thank god when they went to the XXX series they went with the same tranny in both buggy and truck (2.43) and have held true to that with the latest editions (2.56?). I'm assuming they were watching what Associated was doing with the tranny and followed suite. Why they ever went with different ratios between the car and truck is beyond me? Seems to me the early JRX/LXT also had the same trannies (2.18) which for a truck was a little low if you ask me but that's what they made 90t spurs for!

A smaller turnout of racers today but the ones here had a great time. An old face showed up for the first time this season and walked out with the new Stock and Mod truck records. The track was a little bit of a pain with the sun being out how it was. It's unbelievable how quick the water can dry up that is put on between heats and let me tell ya, getting a nitro truck to hook up even marginally in the drier conditions is all kinds of fun. :) So far the weather has been co-operating with us so let's keep our fingers crossed that luck keeps going our way. One more week of racing before we take a break for the July 4th weekend.

Yeah last week it had an air leak so we fixed that and I drove it friday and saturday with no problems, Get to the track and practice and still works good go to race and el guapo finds a fuel leak and that it's runing to lean so I change the fuel line and richin it up a little then second round comes around and it woudn't start because It was flooded and the clutch nut was a little to tight allowing the wheels to spin when I tryed to start it and after that my glow plug starter crapped out. so I practice at intermission ran great again, then SPC says it's runing to rich and that the low speed ldle is off so. I got a total of 4 tanks of runing threw it at home, A lap and a half on the track, And 20 minutes of run time by Ricks barn to me it just dosen't add up!

Sorry Andy there aren't any adjustments on the servo saver but it seems like it'd have a strong enough spring to allow turning sitting still since it's designed for 1/8 scale buggies. Hmmm......not going to be much help here I guess. I never had any problems with mine but I never worried about turning sitting still either. ;) Right now I'm running one of the Pro-Line servo savers designed for the T-Maxx on mine. The only problem with it is that it takes some "engineering" to work on an E-Maxx.

Not to my knowledge. A FULL metal geared servo would be real hard to strip but if I remember correctly the 945s have one plastic gear in it. Gotta have some give somewhere. :) I'd say yes you will need a servo saver.

EvaderAndy
06-24-2004, 07:06 PM
It seems the reaction speed is quicker without it but with it reacts like the stock servo. Is it possiable that it's that the sevo saver's defective? I might buy another servo saver and try that one and see if it's the same way.

k1m
06-24-2004, 10:17 PM
Andy: Check to see if your swivel balls are binding. Un hook the servo and turn the wheels by pushing and pulling on the rod. It should be completely free and easy to turn. I bound mine up once messing with the suspension and it didn't turn very well because of it. I mean the allen heads you adjust thru the wheel spokes. Something to check anyway.

And yes... you need a servo saver ESPECIALLY on the Maxx. The spring in that one could be bad, but they don't have to be able to turn lock to lock sitting still to give you plenty of steering.

Another great day of racing at RER/CR and toward the end of the day the surface was great for traction. A few records did fall but I haven't done that part of the paperwork yet to show them here. A few Mini-Ts again and I do remember that K1M now holds the record in this class with a 22 lap run! I would say that the little step pins are the tire of choice in this class. Just remember that there will be no racing next weekend as we take the week off for the July 4th holiday.
