Polli 04-11-2004, 08:22 PM Rick, I dont mean to boast, but I did have a few, and I mean a FEW pretty clearings on the triple. And once, just once I cleared without landing on the downslope of the third, and on all fours at that! Wish I had a camera, cuz it was way purdy!
scoutout02 04-11-2004, 08:23 PM Hey Rick, Andy asked me to ask you to hold the truck for him. he's gonna buy it. Andy, you can take the truck with the first payment if you like.
OvalmanPA 04-12-2004, 12:29 PM Polli.......that must have been the time you just kind of stood there and looked at it right?
Todd.....you still want me to take pictures then? :) By the way....PLEASE CALL ME! I might have a problem and need to ask you about it. I'll be back to the shop after 1:30.
Polli 04-12-2004, 02:01 PM Yep, That was it, I was in shock!
EvaderAndy 04-12-2004, 02:20 PM Well I went to the shop today and I'm glad i'm not racing production this year because the triple looks like that little 540 won't make it "safely" over the double on the triple. the first jump of the triple is about 3-4 ft high!
OvalmanPA 04-12-2004, 06:24 PM Andy.......
Todd.........you have mail...........bad news. :( Let me know what you're going to do.
scoutout02 04-12-2004, 07:33 PM Rick, i ordered the engine, all i need is the header, RX pack, and truck. yeah!!!
OvalmanPA 04-13-2004, 06:42 PM Rick, i ordered the engine, all i need is the header, RX pack, and truck. yeah!!!
If you're lucky everything will arrive at about the same time. :) I'm disappointed that I couldn't get that engine for you. :( From the sounds of it the new one is gonna be killer though. Maybe I'll have to slip that in my truck when it arrives. :freak:
Polli........you left your single cell shrink wrap in the box here at the shop. Didn't know if you wanted to put that on or not but it's here when you make it back over.
Polli 04-13-2004, 11:37 PM Rick... I didn't even know the shrink wrap was in the box, I didn't even miss it, and put the cells together already. (With my NEW battery Jig!!!) I don't know how I ever lived without one :) I'll prolly be up Saturday to tame those triples. How are the jumps holding up from all this rain? Is your brother missing a sweatshirt? My brother says it aint his????
EvaderAndy 04-14-2004, 07:05 AM yeah rick you going to be around saturaday/ and how's the "soggy" but new tabletop and triple?
Gotta see how the evader with the stocker likes the new jumps
OvalmanPA 04-14-2004, 02:23 PM Polli.........that thing makes a WORLD of difference doesn't it? Haven't been down to the track but it looks like the rain packed things in pretty well is all. Not sure if that is my brothers or not, he hasn't said anything.
Andy........I'll be here all day. Seems the track is holding up pretty well. Next few days are supposed to be pretty nice so things should look pretty good for you guys come Saturday.
EvaderAndy 04-14-2004, 03:40 PM sounds great:thumbsup:
BTW Rick, Do you have a 89 tooth 48 pitch spur that fits the T3 and evader on your shelf?
scoutout02 04-14-2004, 09:31 PM i've got a question, i bought some Testors airbrush thinner. will it work for polycarb paints? the only thing the bottle says, is not for use with washable paints.
OvalmanPA 04-15-2004, 08:52 PM sounds great:thumbsup:
BTW Rick, Do you have a 89 tooth 48 pitch spur that fits the T3 and evader on your shelf?
Believe the biggest I have is 87 for them Andy.........sorry.
scoutout02 04-15-2004, 11:07 PM does anyone have tips for soldering batts? i keep melting down soldering guns to heaps of plastic. i'm using flux, deans solder, deans batt bars. aligning the packs is the easy part, i get 3 of 5 bars on fine but the other 2 won't go. it seems like no matter how hot the gun the solder won't melt. help...
Polli 04-16-2004, 12:31 AM Todd, what am I chopped liver? I thought ya were gonna have me solder up your packs? The only thing I can tell ya is (use a jig!!!) make sure ya keep the tip of the iron or gun clean and shiny, "Tin" the cells and bars. lay a thin layer of solder on both the cells and the bars. More so on the cells than the bars. You can get away without tinning the bars, but it helps if ya do. DONT over heat your cells. Apply heat for 5 seconds max. Any more than that and ya can damage your pack. If ya can't get it on the first try, let it cool and go to another cell. Are you using the gun I sold ya? At 230 watts, that gun has put many cells together. (Pulling the trigger fully is 230 watts, just half way is 150 watts) If the tip is glowing red, you got plenty of heat. Also use solder that is 60/40. in other words 60% tin, 40% antimony. It has a lower melting point than say 95/5(I made the mistake of buying that crap from Walmart once...I think you were there)
Good luck man, I got faith in ya... YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
EvaderAndy 04-16-2004, 12:38 PM okay rick mike said he had one
See ya Saturday Rick & Polli
Polli 04-16-2004, 01:59 PM See ya there, Andy, about what time ya gonna be there?
scoutout02 04-16-2004, 03:04 PM i melted the gun i got from ya, polli. i held the trigger all the way in, and the tip would get hot after a while but the case would start to melt.
scoutout02 04-16-2004, 03:14 PM Rick, i can't find out what the capacity is for the fuel tank, would you happen to know?
EvaderAndy 04-16-2004, 03:42 PM Don't know for sure Polli but my moms goes to work around 4 so maybe around noon?
It's driving me nuts Todd, I can't drive the Max St pro usless my dad's home and he's working from 3pm-midnight! It's a good thing tomarrow's saturday, My dads off and the track awaits! see how she runs.
OvalmanPA 04-16-2004, 07:55 PM First thing with soldering and this is just my opinion so don't anybody get mad. :) Throw away the gun. They can work to do cells but they don't ususally work well for very long. It seems they have a hard time holding the heat needed to do batteries for some reason. A good soldering station/iron (with a big tip) is the best way to go because they have a good recovery time but can be pricey. I've actually heard Home Depot carries a pretty good iron that is not to much $$$. I personally prefer to not tin my cells when I assemble them. I hold the iron on the bar and within 5-15 seconds flow solder onto and around the bar. Other than that, what Polli said. Keep the tip clean and well tinned.
Todd.......XXX-NT tank or otherwise? The one that comes with that will probably be 75cc as that is what is ROAR legal if I remember correctly.
Polli 04-16-2004, 11:45 PM I dunno. I never had any bad luck w guns. Like I said though, that gun did a many cells, and is way old, like pushin 10 years, so yea throw it away!
EvaderAndy 04-17-2004, 06:24 PM Well the track was great!
The Max ST was great it handle the new jumps better than any of my other trucks, But it was runing way to rich so I Leaned it out after I got home and is sweet, thanks todd!
Polli made the triple with his XXX4 it was sweet. Then he got so much air with his B2K he forgot to turn after the triple and ended in the fence.
The Maxx was able to be like Don W last year and clear the front double. The back springs are a little to soft it liked to flip and flip
The Evader needs a MAJOR slipper adjustment and slid all over.
Great Seeing you again Polli.
Polli 04-18-2004, 03:48 AM It was good seeing you too, Andy. I'm sure the track is holding a few more surprises in store for all of us! I'll prolly be up this Saturday as well. But the weekend after that I'll be in Pittsburgh for my sisters wedding.
scoutout02 04-18-2004, 11:16 PM Glad you like the truck Andy, your gonna have alot of adj. with any nitro do to temp/humidity. you'll get the hang of it though. Rick, let me know if the stuff comes in Mon. also, what kinda shape is that soldering iron in you have for sale? also, do you have springs for the nitro, or can you use any losi spring?
scoutout02 04-19-2004, 07:45 PM thanks for the iron rick, it works great. i soldered a batt pack in 20min. rather than 1hr. savin 150 watts on the elec bill too... lol
OvalmanPA 04-20-2004, 06:38 PM Todd.........glad it works for you. Just a word of advice with it though. Don't leave it plugged in continuously (hours). The only problem I had with it is the threads on the heating element basically desintigrating over time. If that does happen, I got the heating elements from McMaster Carr supply. As a matter of fact that's where I got the whole iron. :) I was happy with it while I had it but just decided to step up to a new soldering station.
You got that truck done yet??
Polli 04-20-2004, 11:36 PM What's this? Does someone have a new toy and not sayin anything about it?
How bout that price tag on the LST? 6 C-notes, at least it comes w a kikass transmitter!
scoutout02 04-21-2004, 08:11 AM Rick, my truck is done, i've got pics of bofore i mess it up. and the iron heats up fast so i need to leave it, and when i get done with whatever, i unplugit. i done get into the direct soldering thing. Poli, you gotta see this thing! i'm breaking in the engine today, so i can run Sat. or Sun. let me know if your gonna go we'll try to coordinate. sorry about the bad pics, they don't do it justice.
scoutout02 04-21-2004, 10:57 AM OMG, i broke in the engine this morning, and its freakin fast! if the new one Fantom came out with is faster, you better put an "oh s@#%t" bar on your controler Rick. lol
OvalmanPA 04-21-2004, 01:15 PM Polli.......see that, he was holding out on you. :jest:
Todd.......sounds like your going to like that truck motor combo huh? Worth every cent you paid right? BTW.......nice truck. Can't wait to see it up close and personal.
Polli 04-21-2004, 01:45 PM I cant wait to see your truck either, Todd, ya holdin out on your new truck info Bastad! :p I'll meet ya up at the track around noon Saturday, sound cool? If not lemme know
Oh yea, everyone, you may now refer to me as " Chopped Liver" or C.L. for short, lol
EvaderAndy 04-21-2004, 03:47 PM Yeah todd sweet truck
Polli was saying saturday that you would probably be pretty upset if your old truck beet your new one:lol:
I'm hoping to give all you nitro racers a good run.............I hope
Polli 04-22-2004, 02:14 PM Hey Todd, I just noticed ya gave me back that transmitter without a crystal! Ya got an extra 78 layin around? I'm bringin the xx out of retirement, my brother wants to run it.
scoutout02 04-23-2004, 07:09 AM Polli, i'll see, i have a couple of extras i think. Sat. noon good C.L. i bet, if we get enough people in the calss Andy, Rick would consider moving up the nitro start time so i can get to work on time. lol
Polli 04-23-2004, 02:10 PM Cool Todd, I'll see ya there, you too Rick
OvalmanPA 04-24-2004, 06:48 PM Polli and Todd have spent the better part of 5-6 hours up here today working on setups and just generally bashing around. I think the track is pretty darn good on traction right now so it should give them a good idea of what things will be like come race day. Todds new XXX-NT looks awefully nice and that Fantom motor seems to rip pretty good! Polli has also discovered what it's like to "feed" a 9 turn motor. Hope you guys enjoyed yourself today!
scoutout02 04-25-2004, 01:37 PM yup! :D and i found out what the problem was with the steering servo, the plastic gears inside it look like a hockey player after a loosing fight. all kinds of teeth missing.
Polli 04-25-2004, 04:11 PM I definately enjoyed myself. The triples are getting better to drive on. There is no longer just one sweet spot, I'd say there is about 4 of them now.
Not only do I know what its like to feed a 9 turn, but I also know what it's like to smoke a xxx-4. I'm about to find out how much equipment was lost in the fire, hopefully not too much
Sugar Daddy 04-25-2004, 07:18 PM Hey El Guapo, could you shoot me an email? I have a couple questions for ya. Thanks.
thatperson@adelphia.net
OvalmanPA 04-25-2004, 07:43 PM Polli.......fire? You pull an Andy? What'd I miss?
Todd......unfortunately that's what comes from a to tight servo saver sometimes. :( Shouldn't happen with the one you have now!
Sugar Daddy.......any .25 show up yet?
Sugar Daddy 04-25-2004, 07:49 PM No .25 yet! They won't tell me when it will show up. :(
Polli 04-26-2004, 02:22 PM Rick, yep, some signal wires shorted out in the xxx-4, and it got a lil smokey on the track. Fortuneately the only things ruined were the wires.
OvalmanPA 04-27-2004, 06:17 PM SD......I'm afraid I'd be making a rather irate phone call myself.
Polli........did you forget something up here? :) And after I found some for you. :jest:
Polli 04-28-2004, 03:13 AM Ahh the tape!! I was just about to look for that!
EvaderAndy 04-29-2004, 09:16 PM Rick,
I just got my new Xtreme Rc mag and there's a column about "roundy round" on page 192 by Rick Morgan that you?
Yeah, nice try Rick. But it kinda looks like the same responce I got from them about making the rs4 micro mini car of the year. They don't seem as concerned with what their readers want as they are about who's buying advertising space with them. I'm afraid they're losing me...too bad, I do like their race coverage. But take away their chicks and whats left? Just alot of gas.....:drunk:
Another note...check out Pg 141, 1/12 scale stock winner of the carpet nationals; Wayne Gerber the BRP guy who set the 1/12 scale record at Racers Edge last January.
OvalmanPA 04-30-2004, 05:58 PM Everybody always sees these things before me. :) I have my new Xtreme in the stack here beside my bed but haven't gotten to that yet. Shouldn't be too much longer though because it definitly aint takin long to go through the FREE RCCA I got! Oh yea, I knew SG1 won out there. Kinda neat to have a track record holder at your track that is also a big winner at a national race!
Just before Wayne won the national title I spoke to him about 1/12th racing at Racers Edge. He agreed that even though it was small, it was a challenge and fun. I told him just before the end of the season on two different occasions, I tried to beat his record but came up short. Oh well, I don't feel too bad to be humbled by a National Champ. Watching him win the National title was pretty impressive!
