Second week of racing and we already have a new track record. Canbquik was pretty quick in the second qualifier of Open BuRP (modified) and upped K1Ms record by a lap to a 61/5:00.53. Seems like the classes to be in this year are either Production or one of the two BuRP classes as they are the biggest so far. Practice racing is complete now and it's time to get down to some point racing next week.

Just as a side note, practice days will begin December 9th. Practice will be from 4-7 each Tuesday night from then on.

i don't suppose i could run my XXX in the production class could i ? if so what do i need?

Sugar Daddy
12-02-2003, 07:21 PM
All you need to run production is a 540 size closed end-bell motor. Rick sells them at the track. This is what they look like: closed end-bell (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGN28&P=7)

OvalmanPA
12-02-2003, 08:02 PM
Todd.......like Shaun said all you need is a 540 "tin can" motor and a 6 cell battery pack. You can run any type of car in Production, buggy, truck, whatever. The only drawback of the tin can motors is you will need to "hog out" the motor mount area some to get it to fit.

Yeah you'll need a 540 the 540 traxxas stinger or tamiya 540 are what's mostly run. Personaly I'd go with the stinger because there about $18-$19 and are wound a little faster.

don't know but maybe a older style front hub will fit and you'll be able to run pan car fronts. I'll bring a set of tires front pan car and rear pan car cut down with the hub adapters for you to try.

You can run pancar front tires but it takes a bit of a modification. You have to run truck spindles and axles and use 5/16x3/8 flanged bearings. Either that or you can check out TM Racing Components website. They make direct fit foams for the XX/XXX.

http://www.tm-rc-racingcomponents.com/buggiesFrame1Source1.htm (http://)

Thats the link to the T.M. site. I'd reccomend changing the front end around like Rick described, but use axles from the old JRX-Pro type cars, so its not so W-I-D-E!

Think they'll be a 2wd class this week, Rick?? The "Ugly Ride" is almost ready, but underneath is a new Grand Motorsports HB3O!

I dunno how the older axles would work in the newer parts? Will be glad to finally see that HB3O.

Polli

canbquik
12-06-2003, 06:41 PM
I usually stick with 30WT. oil, and then just use a stiffer spring. Sometimes I have to put limiters in the shock to adjust length of travel. Iset my truck up with stock pistons, 30WT oil, and then I limmited the rear shocks so that they were the same length as the front. On my buggy I purchased LOSI RALLY SHOCK SET, they are about a 1/4" longer than the touring car and about 1/4" shorter than truck fronts. It is all in what works for you and the only way to know is to set it up how YOU feel will work best. Then at the track run it and make adjustments, hope this helped, Chris

Todd.........I'll have to look but are you sure they make them for the XX/XXX in 2.0? I'm thinkin' they only have 2.2 like the stock size?

Polli........what are you looking for in ESCs? GT7, Dually, Rooster, etc.

Lots of exciting racing this week, huh? Some good close racing and some too close racing but exciting. Don and Johna must have traded the lead 6 times in 3 laps in the truck main. Rick and Don were almost the same way in the Fun Burp class. Chris & I had a good run going in Mod Burp until he broke, my battery dumped right about then too, so Shawn won with his new stock Fun Won. Nice run, Sugar Daddy! Production saw it's share of dogfights today too. Then there was the 2wd stock.......there was some good racing there too, but some horrific crashes!
Kinda like Robot Wars. :jest:

Chris, I took the shock shaft's and pistons out of the Sreet Weapon shocks you sold me at the swap meet, and put them in the Double x shock bodies. This lowered the car to the height of my touring car. It also lets me use tourig car springs.

Sorry I acted like a speed bump for everybody in the 2wd class, I had the car geared way too low, not too mention my lack of driving skills. You were right Rick, Carpet is a WHOLE different animal.

How much was that gt7 again? I may have to wait a bit, gotta get some work done on my car.

What a first week of points racing! Good close and like K1M said, to close racing in every class this week. Three new records hit the books this week and they were all in the BuRP classes. Sugar Daddy now holds the Open BuRP stock class record firmly with a 56/5:02.81. A full four laps more than the previous record! K1M took back his record in the Open BuRP modified class from Canbquik with a run of 62/5:02.07. And finally, I couldn't let Sugar Daddy hold records in two classes so I laid down a 34/5:03.70 in the Fun BuRP main to reclaim my top spot after he broke my previous record in the first heat. :D Looks as though it's going to be another fun winter season...........

Polli.........$135 for the GT7.

Polli and Scoutout02.......I don't want to make any waves or anything here guys but...........you "might" want to hone your skills on carpet oval in the Production class before moving up to 2wd stock. As you can see, things are a LOT different in the carpet world than off road. All it would cost you is a tin can motor. Once again, I don't want to piss you off as it's just a suggestion and I'd hate to see you get frustrated with the way things go and quit. I just suggest that anybody just coming into carpet oval start out in the Production class to get a little experience under their belt, both driving and setup.

EvaderAndy
12-08-2003, 07:26 PM
productions almost as fast but just if not more competitive plus there's some trucks in production that I call pace cars cause they're not to fast but go all over and there's any where from 1 to 5 trucks at once it's pretty hecktic just have to avoid the wrecks and go a good speed and you'll do fine

Polli or Todd I'd be happy to help with your set-up, I'm going over to practice tomorrow night. 2Wd is a tough class to jump into, more than anything is the speed, when we're running almost twice as fast things tend to get close real quick :freak:

johnqpublic
12-08-2003, 09:42 PM
Rick,
Well said, and perhaps best coming from you. The 2wd cars are VERY quick and its hard to react (even for the best drivers) when there is a very large speed differential between the fast cars and the slower ones. The production class is a great place to learn

Polli and Scout: I'm not at the track all of the time, but after the Holidays, I'm hoping to be there most of the time. If you need any help or set-up tips, please don't be afraid to ask me....if nothing else, thats what us guys who have been racing forever are good for! You're surrounded by some of the most friendly racers around and they are all a good resource for any questions. Everyone has their own style so you might not always get the answer that works for you, but you'll get a lot of great suggestions.

Hey Canbquik, I'm glad you mentioned that because I almost forgot to post.

PRACTICE NIGHTS!
If there is ANYONE that would like to get in a little practice on the oval during the week between race days you should stop by Tuesday nights. I'll be at the track from 4 - 7 or so for anyone that would like to make any adjustments to help get you going faster. There usually isn't much of a crowd so stop by and have some fun. See everyone there!

thanks much guys. and what polli said, ditto for me. i had no idea that it was that kind of pace and lets not forget the front ribs i had. lol i'm such a rookie, that i wouldn't take offence to one of ya'll tellin me to sit down. he he. i'm getting normal foam tires about friday. (you we're right about the size of the wheels/tires rick) the site threw me, so i called the guy and got it straightened out. still no batts though. so, i'm gonna have to skip this week. canbquik, i'm gonna take you up on the set-up thing just a matter of when i can get there. thanks all.
