Tell me about it. This is getting down right ridiculous! Just watched the weather at noon and they are calling for "scattered" showers right on through the weekend.

Hopefully it quits for next week because I just got a load of building material for a new drivers stand.

Anybody happen to know why I can't get McCoy #8 plugs anywhere????? I have them backordered from two different places now.

Oh and I have a question. What type of dirt is on the track? Like a soft clay or?

Savage21
08-05-2003, 03:17 PM
It's a very hard clay. It will have a small layer of dust on it after a couple heats. If you have the right set-up, this track has all kinds of traction.

Shaun........without clicking the link I imagine they are the same ones I looked at. The one place I get stuff through get's things through Great Planes (Tower) and today they came back as on backorder. This is why I ordered from them is because Tower showed them as "in stock". Hopefully they'll come separatly or in next weeks order.

Like Shaun said it's pretty hard and it developes a "loam" on it. His Bowties seem to work pretty well.

Ran a couple packs through ye ol' 'pede tonight while Adam was here to get a little practice before the Fair. Talk about T-R-A-C-T-I-O-N! Things were downright tacky even. Kind of a mess on the tires and certain parts but it was a pretty fun time. Track isn't fairing to well again with all the rain. We have a few pretty good ditches to rake and fill and things still don't sound good for the weather. :(

Knoxville
08-07-2003, 08:32 PM
ok first does it cost anything second when is it. Is it the r/c races for the fair on tues i think??

Blue ice maxx its the McKean County fair i think they run on the stock car track (a little section of it) i cant tell ya much more than i will proablly be there if i can get in the parking lot :p

The McKean County Fair grounds track is a fun little bullring with 1-2ft steel plate wall surrounding it. It's a great dirt oval track when it gets alittle TLC. There's always quite a crowd of onlookers and you get to take in the festivities after the race if you want. First place pays $10!
The "off road" is a bit limited with just a couple of jumps on the infield of the oval, but always a great time if the weather cooperates. Bring your own table & chair and go in the pit/campground gate. Tell them your racing and you can park down by the track. It's just off turn 4 of the MCFR racetrack.

What about money does it cost anything to enter or is it all for fun (r/c is always fun :D) just wondering sounds like fun i love showin off to a crowd till it stalls  oh yah when is the race?????

Donalbain
08-08-2003, 08:10 AM
It'll be about $8 to get in the gate and about $2 to race two classes. Don't pit near the corners, gets pretty dusty.

Knoxville
08-08-2003, 10:41 AM
Hey man the 8$for the gate is that just to get into the fair cause i entered a carving in and i get a free pass to get in the its like 3$ to ride rides is that what you mean?? One other Question do you guys know what tires would get better traction to use the stock savage tires or the stock t-maxx tires??? i just cant decide

OvalmanPA
08-08-2003, 01:00 PM
Ok here is the skinny on the Fair race.

Where - McKean County Fair, East Smethport, Pa.
1. Track located just off turn four of McKean County Raceway like k1m said. You'll want to go past the first gate to Fair and go in second.

When - Saturday, August 16th (final day of Fair) 1:00PM start heats

Cost - Unless you have a pass (entered something in Fair and paid $6 for pass) you will have to pay $7 to get in the gate the day of the race. Entry fee is I believe $2.50 for first class and $.50 for each additional.

Additional info. - Bring a pit table/chair and an extension cord/five way outlet if you run electric. We have a few but always run short. Bringing an EZUP canopy if you have one isn't a bad idea either because of weather conditions, may be HOT or RAINY, ya never know.

????s, post away and I'll answer best I can guys.

OFF ROAD RACING CANCELLED (AGAIN) THIS WEEK!

Sorry guys but it aint gonna happen again this week. For one the track has taken a real beating this week through all the rain and it happens to be raining right now.

You all will have to come visit us during Fair week and get some racing in. Just a reminder that there won't be any off road racing on Sunday August 17th. Racing will resume WITH a new drivers stand on Sunday August 24th. See everyone at the Fair or August 24th!

Knoxville
08-10-2003, 01:20 PM
what do u mean there wont be any offroad racing on sunday August 17 they are offroad racing on the 16th at the fair right?? And bye the way who is organizing the fair race??

OvalmanPA
08-10-2003, 01:29 PM
There is no off road racing at OUR track on Sunday August 17th since we will have been at the Fair the day before. Yes there IS off road racing on Saturday August 16th during the Fair, AT the Fair.

Let's put it this way as far as who is "organizing" the Fair race. We run the races..............they collect (and keep) the $$.

Savage: I like the way you think! You'll probably find that the ole Savage pushes alittle that way, but don't worry about the jumps. All we gotta do is make them just like waterski jumps! corner marshalling is another matter....it's tough treading water that long.

Andy: You should have gone up to Hamburg with us to the Can-Am Championships and raced your Maxx Saturday. We did get rained out too, but most of the day was beautiful! Got to see alot of new people and new ideas. Like a kit to make your Maxx have 4 wheel steering....talk about cornering! Some pretty awesome nitro beasts too. How about a twin engine nitro burning pulling tractor? CanBquick came home with 1st place in the 4wd electric monster division. Good job Chris! He made some fast and consistant runs which is what it takes for that kind of racing.

I wore my Racers Edge Tshirt and I think the dude who was making the 4 wheel steering kits thought I was with the other Racers Edge, cause he sure was sucking up to us about his kits. Sorry to say I didn't even get his email.....the Maxxs with 4 wheel steering looked impressive, but they didn't do that well on the track.

See you guys at the Fair

Savage21

Not a problem corner marshalling, just use those water wings! You know, those little rings that you put around your arms and blow up.

I tell ya I wasn't impressed with that 4 wheel steering at all from a racers standpoint, it downright sucked for that. It seems like it would be much better for just tooling around or rock climbing.

I'm gonna try getting a couple videos up of k1m and canbquik as well as some pullers on Wednesday if I can. Those twin .21 tractors in the Insane class were just cooler than snot! I'd like to build me one of those babies but I just saw somebody with a .46 out now so ya know it'd have to have a couple of them. More power baby!!!!

Andy.......yea your antenna came last week. Sorry I didn't let you know. If your coming to the Fair I can bring it with me? I believe it was $6 and change if I remember correctly.

The second Maxx in the Morgan stable it ALIVE! Just got the juice hooked to it today. Might try it over at the Fair race to see how it goes. Those new Integy shocks look SWEET on it too. Gonna have to take them apart though and put a limiter in them because they are a little long. :( It sucks since they are a bit of a pain but it's gonna be neccassary I think. We'll try it Saturday and see. As long as it's just sitting or rolling it'll be ok but at full suspension extension (jumping), the shocks extend to far allowing the shafts to hit the arms. Wonder if there would be a difference if it had the 2.5 arms on it?? HMMMM........

hi ovalman, its me todd. i'm lookin into buying a buggy for next year, but i only want to race stock class. what sort of motor do i need?

Knoxville
08-14-2003, 01:10 AM
hey knoxville here i just got a new team losi xxx-t and i was wondering would i be able to race it during the winter months and if so what would i have to do to it to be able to race it??

OvalmanPA
08-14-2003, 04:14 PM
Todd......Basically take your pick. :) No matter what motor you run, if it's geared right, the car is set up right, and the driver does his job you can make it a winner. If you're not into finding the ultra perfect gear I'd suggest staying away from any high RPM motors such as the Monster Stock 2, Green Machine 3, and Core Stock motors. The Core Stock especially is prone to overheating as canbquik will attest to. I'd say look into a P2K, P2K2, or MVP and gear it right to go. We have all these in stock by the way tuned by Fantom Motors.

Knoxville......Sure you can race the XXXT indoors. I'd suggest a set of foam tires and if you feel like it, limit the shocks to lower ride height. This is about all that is needed to get you around the track indoors.

scoutout02
08-14-2003, 04:34 PM
so...i can get whatever motor as long as its 27 turn, and no adjustable timing? i couldn't find closed endbell type, or is that for production class? and one last thing, what about rebuildable motors? Thanks.

Knoxville
08-14-2003, 06:49 PM
ok thanks for that info now i got another question where can i find a good but cheap set of foam tires

OvalmanPA
08-15-2003, 01:19 PM
Todd.....Closed endbell type is what the motors used to be, you couldn't take the endbell off "legally" to cut the motor. All stock motors nowadays are of the rebuildable type so you can take the endbell off and put the armature in a modified lathe for truing. So yes, you need a 27 turn, none adjustable timing motor for the stock class.

Knoxville.....Depends on what you consider cheap. :D We have (I believe) rears in stock for the XXXT but fronts have been on backorder since last winter. You could do what many people at our track do however and put oval car foam donuts on truck wheels. Wheels themselves will set you back $6.50 a pair and I believe foams are $8.50 a pair and we have both in stock. Visit the How To section on our site to find out about mounting foams on your truck.
