Just ordered a new lawn roller from Costas but forgot to ask when it would be in........DOH! Gonna be a "poly" model, 18x24 and will weight "up to" 250# but I'm not sure how much it weighs "unloaded". We'll have to see how it works.

And thus the rain came for 40 days and 40 nights and the track had many puddles form due to this.........and the owners prayed for it to end and the sun to come forth for a week or so or they may need to build their own danged ARK!!!

We gotta get some of that going, here Ovalman! I really believe it works.

Hey... Remember what I said about drain pipes?? Now you can see where to put them, huh? Hope all that good clay didn't get washed away, look at it this way, all this rain should help settle that new fill. When it does dry out, maybe it'll be more stable.

I worked on my XX-4 sunday, got her all loaded up RTR I think. Had to make up acouple of saddle packs for it. Last time I ran it, it wasn't handling right, but I couldn't find anything obvious wrong. It has pretty aggressive front pin spikes, and the backs were shot so I mounted up a new pair of Proline bowties for the rear. If it's still not right I'd better tear it right down for a look.

Don't look for much sun til after the weekend, but then......

And Lo, the sun will come out and warm the little Valley of BloomsterHollow until Ovalmans dirt dries out, gets hard, and gets a blue groove!(The crowd yells "Amen")
We will gather for good racing and good fellowship and whup eachother's butt's..........maybe we better stick to Sunday Racin', I still think you'd make a good Rev'rnd.

If things keep going the way they have been we gonna need lotta that this year son!

To be completely truthful with you, I can't believe how it has drained off actually. There are a couple of pretty low spots that are setting puddled but overall it's not as bad as you would expect for all the rain we've had. We have a little sun as I speak actually but it's not going to stay. Tomorrow sounds to be the best day this week until like you say after the weekend.

Hehe...........speaking of reverend (sp?). Passed that sign coming back up 66 on Saturday that says "The Church of RC" or something to that effect. Every time I see that I think about that church you suggested we build a track in. :)

The sun 'l come out tooomorrow...............bet your bottom dolllllar..... that toomorrroooowww........there'll be SSUUUUNNNNN!!!!

I tried to post a reply, typed for a 15 minutes (I'm Slow) attached a pic of my XX-4. It said my pic was too big, and I lost my whole post - "This Page has Expired" @#%&*%^!!? Smily faced bulletin boards!!

Soooooooooooooooo............I resized it.....30K ain't much...

Chris Burrows bought a EMaxx - saw him today while I was in Bradford for therapy. Maybe him and Don will let me run my 4wd with them - anyhow, here's a pic of my XX-4 before I get it all dirty.....I HOPE!!!

LOL...........aint that a real kick in the teeth Kim? I've gotten where I copy my whole post before I try to submit it just in case that happens!

Just picked up the roller. REAL light without any water in it so we'll definatly have to put some in it for packing things. Track would have been absolutly perfect to start on again today but of course it had to rain all night again so if we don't get any rain today or tomorrow we may be able to get back on it again Sunday. I'm gonna seriously look at it tomorrow but don't think we'll get on it till Sunday now. Still hoping for a 1st-2nd opening day but June is drawing near real quick!

And then the rain (AND SNOW!!!!) came again and washed any hope of working this weekend away once again.

This crap is getting REAL redundant now. I think mother nature is out to get us or something. Has been YEARS since we've had this much rain and doesn't it just figure that it happens when we decide to build a track?

How you feel 'bout drainage now?

OvalmanPA
05-18-2002, 03:56 PM
Still the same. There are still just a couple puddles but there's nothing you can do about the whole area being mud! :( No amount of drainage in the world is going to help you with what we've been having lately.

Rick,

I stopped by today to see the track and let you beat me at a game of football, but no truck, so I went on my way.

Looks like you have some pipe layed down, but no bumps, lumps, or jumps yet;)

So Kim, Don, and Chris have Emaxx's now, hmmmmmmmm, guess I will have to get one too so I can play in their class. Don't really want to dirty up the USA#1 on a dirt track, it look too pretty:cool:

Chat at you guys later......Got to get the BRP ready for Elyria again.

Sorry big guy I spent the better part...........no wait a minute, the whole dang day in Coudy waiting for Kightlingers to switch my lift and hand controls into my new ride. This new baby is SWWWEEEEETTTT!! :D

You should have looked closer because there were a couple jumps layed out they just need a good packing. We spent the better part of today putting in the rest of the pipe (needs staked down now) and laying in a couple more jumps. Jumps still need some forming now and track needs a good raking and packing so expect a email soon for all our faithful few. We need to have a day together now to get any suggestions you guys may have out there as I'm new at this off road stuff and need all the track design help I can get. And of course there is always that "play" thing too. :) See the website shortly for a couple pics of the progress.

We should be able to hold a practice day next weekend (June 1st) if everything goes as planned. I expect that a few of our regulars will be going to Elyria to show Bud some rear spoiler however. :) Spent most of the day raking today and things are looking pretty good. Johna did some work on a couple of the jumps this morning and rolled them in. I must say it is finally starting to look like a track! If we just have a few more good days it should be about done. A drivers stand will be in the works but we wont be starting the season with one. "Grand opening" race will be June 15th if everything goes as planned. For those either on our mailing list or e-mail list, expect some info coming to you soon.

05-25-2002, 08:03 PM
Well it wasn't quite finished yet but we had our first "test" of the new track today! Don, Chris, and Kim came by to see how the new jumps would hold up for us and to test the layout. Overall I think they liked the layout and after cuffing off a couple jumps things aren't to bad. There is a LOT of loose dirt on the track that I think (Chris suggested) would probably be best off broomed to the side and the surface wet down. Still needs some work but it is coming along nicely.

A few of us locals were treated to a sneak peak of Racers Edge's new dirt track today. Ovalman's done alot of work to build a 1st rate offroad racing track. He's brought in (I think) 90 tons of stonefree clay that should make an excellent base for offroad racing. We ran a truck, 2wd buggy, 4wd buggy, and what may be my favorite class, the EMaxx Class. So far there are 3 of us in this area with EMaxxs and I think there will be a couple more very soon! They handle like lead sleds compared to the XX-4, but they really rip! I can't wait!

WOW, i'm mega pumped lol i'm so excited to race lol it's been way to long for me lol i still need directions to the track coming from warren.. is it close to the indoor track you had? or in that same area, and i raced a bit here in warren and my girlfriend and younger sister (age 8) all plan on racing.. so for the beginner class, i was wondering what type of a motor is the 540? would that be like the traxxas stinger motor? cause we all want to start out in that class, i could probably run stock, but they are nervous, so i told them i would race in the beginners class with them the first few times. well, i just wanted to say YES YES YES and i hope i didn't ask to many stupid questions lol thanks

You should have recieved directions in the e-mail I sent out but just in case.......

Come into Smethport on Route 59. At the stop sign (junction of Route 6) make a right turn onto Route 6 and go six miles. Make a left turn onto Bloomster Hollow Rd. and go one mile. Our shop is in the back room of the mobile home trailer on the left. Go just past the trailer and there is a dirt driveway going down to two big red barns. Go down this driveway and track is right down there behind trailer. We still haven't worked out parking arrangements but this shouldn't be a problem.

OvalmanPA
05-27-2002, 08:29 PM
Whooopps............I'm sorry. I was in a hurry last night and forgot to answer you about the motor. Yes the type of motor you will need to use for the Production class is like the "stinger" from Traxxas. They are a closed endbell motor that you can't get to the brushes. The fastest motor that we've found for the class is made by Tamiya and is called a Sport tuned 540. They are black in color and really rip! Hope to see you here next Saturday. :)

Ovalman: So what color EMaxx are you getting, humm? Come-on, I saw that look on your face when you were driving mine. Maybe it was that great big smile! They are kinda like racing elephants, and I'm pretty suprised at the way they jump.
I'll go out on a limb here, but you know you can always count on my 2 cents. I think in the EMaxx class the rules should limit the motors to the Titan motors they come with. For many reasons but mostly so a guy can still go out and buy one,(hopefully from you)and be able to take it right down to the track and race it like it is.

I agree K1m, but......there is always a butt....LOL Take the other side of the ruler and say, what if a guy can't afford a new E-maxx and buys a used one for a good low price and it already has upgraded motors in it, now the poor son of a gun has to buy Titan's to race and may not be able to afford to buy them for awhile after buying the emaxx. Then no racing and his truck just sits on the shelves.:(

Just my input on the situation.......

Just saying I saw something like this happen a lot at the indoor races, a young guy buys a Traxxas Rustler and thinks he can enter it in the production class, but gets there and finds out that the motor in the Rustler is a 20turn, and not allowed in production, so now he has to spend more money and buy a production 540 motor.

Again just one large mans opinion...........LOl

KSG - you got something (maxx) to tell us? you sounded a tad defensive in that last post about "seeing this happen". Hhmmm. let me think.....so, what type of motors came with yours?

Ovalman - you are next, buddy.

OvalmanPA
05-28-2002, 02:23 PM
Let's see, first off.............we just about finished getting the pipes staked in today. We ran just a little short on stakes though so we have maybe 4-6 more to put in. It could be run on right now though as the areas that are absolutly necassary of being staked down have been. There is still a little work to be done on the one tabletop but we're getting real close now!

Thoughts on emaxx motors. I kind of figured on leaving it unlimited since as you can pretty much see, it's pretty easy to overpower the track with the Titan motors. I don't think faster motors are really going to help you any really other than making your wallet lighter. :)

I'd like to have one really guys but I just don't know. I'm going to have to make a decision on getting an EMaxx or a XXXTMF because there's NO WAY I can afford both right now. :(

Yep next weekend is still scheduled as the first practice day unless we get a bunch of rain Friday which might happen.

05-28-2002, 03:43 PM

I think the writing is on the wall.

If that "poor son of a gun" has saved $$ buying a vehicle with a number of upgrades already on it, (and lets face it, you can drop thousands into an EMaxx if you're that stupid) then he's probably already saved enough money to justify buying motors that would let everyone compete at the same level.
From what little I've read on the subject, until someone develops another 14v motor like the Titans, you're looking at more maintenance, less runtime, and shorter life (what's that funny smell, John?) That's why I'd like to see the rules changed now BEFORE anyone goes and buys 12 turn Monster Maxx's or whatever! There's plenty of other goodies to spend money on.
Which is not to say you couldn't race your new truck with us KSG. Hell, I'm not against racing TMaxx's in the EMaxx class! I'd just like to see some sensible guidelines set up to keep the class fun.
If you don't think motors will matter, run a couple of laps with a stock in your 'pede, then drop a mild mod in it and then watch the double jumps go by.

kanesurfguru
05-28-2002, 05:28 PM
OK, here are a few little facts to consider on the Emaxx motors, the Titan motors are 23 turn motors, the mild max motors are 19 turn, the wild max motors are 17turn and from what I have read you can not use an EVX esc on the wild ones, Associateds BaddMaxx motors are 19turn and 15 turn, and they had so many problems with the 15 turn the quit making it. So as far as I can see if you set the rules to you have to use an EVX esc which is stock than the only choices you have are 23turn titans and 19turn aftermarket. That should settle it down, the only good thing I see about the aftermarket is that I can take them apart and turn the com. and change the brushes for a longer lasting motor, that way I don't have to buy several motors in a years time because they keep getting dirt in them and then not being able to cut the com or change the brushes, or just take them apart to give them a good cleaning so we don't hear "John, what is the funny smell" :D
I also think we should give the 19turn motors a chance to see just what difference there is in them on the track, there just might not be that much difference, it might even provide proof that the Titans work better with their fan cooling. Lets wait and see?

And K1m you mean you didn't buy that Emaxx that went on Ebay for $1200.00 ? What a steal?

Elyria or bust....DON'T HURT YOUR BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's give it the first year guys and see what's going to happen then we can make changes if need be. Maybe I'll just decide off road is to much of a hassle to do every summer.

Kim, it won't matter if you make that double any better if you can't make the next turn since your going to fast. Ever heard the saying, "slow down to go fast"? :D

Paul, I would guess we'll have mostly stock racers as we do on carpet but you never know.

Saturday was our first real practice on the track and we did have a few people show up to give it a try. The track was pretty wet to start but after a little raking and rolling it was in pretty good condition. We had our first nitro trucks on it and they seemed to fair pretty well. The track seems to hold pretty good traction when it's wet but as it dries you might be looking for a little bite. As far as what tires are going to work, we aren't completely sure yet. One of the guys was having problems with traction using Losi ifmar pins that were a little worn when it started to dry out but when it was wet he looked pretty good. On the other hand one of the guys was using old Losi step pins and he was pretty hooked from start to finish suprisingly. I'll have several kinds of tires in stock come Tuesday so we should be pretty set I hope to get started. The track does appear that on a good day it might even develop a "groove" to it. :)

Our first parking lot race is next weekend in Cuba, NY and then we'll be getting started June 15th with off road racing. A bit of raking around the track still needs to be done but the loop has been laid and we are about ready to go!

Donalbain
06-03-2002, 11:18 AM
Glad that open practice went well. Haven't been sure if I should be kicking myself for getting new tires, not sure if the kit tires are going to work. Suppose I'll be doing some last minute gluing come 6/15!

Doubt I'll make it to Cuba next weekend. Sorry. Cousins grad party. So, don't bother bringing my parts there, I'll pick them up someday soon.

My take on Maxx motors: Let's wait and see if the aftermarket mods put the Titans at a serious disadvantage before limiting things. Seems kinda like mod tc.

OvalmanPA
06-03-2002, 01:19 PM
Got a few of your parts today and the rest should be here tomorrow. To bad you won't be coming to Cuba, I hope we have enough people to race even. :( You remember what it was like last weekend and the loose stuff with emaxxes? Looked like Chris was pretty hooked up Saturday since most of that was gone. You guys that haven't had as much practice on the track now might be in trouble come race day in the "elephant races" against Mr. Burrows! :)

i'm glad to hear that the first practice went well.. wish i could of been there, but i probably won't make it till the 15th.. so how maybe races will you run for each class? and how many classes do you think you will run, do you think we will have a good turn out the 15th? just curious as to how long the day will last

OvalmanPA
06-04-2002, 09:54 AM
Hard to tell how many people we'll have the first weekend. From the sounds of it the guys from the Bradford area will be there with their nitro trucks. I'm sure our faithful ones that just enjoy getting out to do a little racing (KSG, K1M, Donalbain, Chris, etc) will be there also. I'd be happy with a 15-20 racer first day. I would guess we'll be running at least stock buggy, electric maxx, stock truck, and 1/10 nitro truck classes.

We run two qualifiers and a main with mains set up by your best qualifier. Electric classes will be running four minute qualifiers and mains with nitro running five minute heats and eight minute mains (subject to change).

Remember guys if you happen to want to come by and pratice, the track is always open we just ask that you make sure someone is here before coming.

Well I tried the Maxx today, WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! that thing moves and jumps and turns on a dime, only flipped it over once while trying to jump over an old stump and of course lost my first two body clips. Guess I will have to invest in some of those ones K1m and Don got. I see what you mean by Elephant, slow, retarded, all the above. But I think this will definitely make a great off road class. Not to mention a lot of FUN!!! It will take sometime to learn how to drive it better, but I'm up to the challenge. I changed over to my Multiplex radio and the little button the handle of it, I use for shifting, works pretty neat. WOW again, thanks for the help so far K1m and Don, I'm sure I will need more.
