Bruce......track is open for practice all the time. We just ask that you make sure someone is around here somewhere.

Guys, I thought the track was 3/8 mile? We'll have to measure it again this year.

I was there. Had a good day. If you don't count radio trouble and then snaping a dogbone on my savage! It was fun though. There were a couple guys there that helped me out. I'll be back after I get done sorting out my troubles!

Hey Scooby-Cakes I'm pretty sure I landed the triple but didn't have Enough room to turn and went off. Rick your new track is alsome Scooby-Cakes said that when I pulled in you just left. It was a little dry you couldn't get any traction. Can you run two different sized tires? Cause it seems to handle the best with the stock tires in front for turning capeabilites(not sure on spelling) and the Monster Beetle tires in the rear. Looks.......different

Thats sweet, EvaderAndy. that triple is awsome. I had it as i broke lol and of all parts, no spare lol  lol It was nice seeing a new face and it was nice chatting with rick for awile too. The new track is more then worth a SCOOBY CAKE (or snack, if you don't like cake rick lol) I think it will make for some awsome racing this season. Two

Andy...........sorry I missed you. If I would have known you were over there I might have stopped back over for a minute. Glad you liked the track and if you want to run two different truck tires, go right ahead. :)

Bruce.........think I'll pass on the scooby cake. Good seeing you again. Never thought about your shirts. We'll have to remember to get those to you when you come over to race.

Rick........Mike & I are going to see if we could come over this coming Saturday are you going to be around? Cause I told him about the track and he all ready and I want to race someone on it because Scooby_Cakes friend had the same freak that I had. Want to try it with someone for like momentum or just to see who can land the triple better. The bridge and then the triple are the best! Besides where you come around the corner to go onto the front straitaway the way it was Sunday you powerslid around it with a huge dust cloud flowing then hitting what I call a table top jump.THIS IS A CAUTION TO RACERS PLAINING ON RACING AT RICKS:When you hit the front "tableTop:" hit in the center if not you will go sideways and take out the one driver stand trust me you do a 360 right now off a woden stand and YOU WILL BRAKE SOMETHING!!

I don't know as the track owner likes that though, makes a mess of things if it's real wet. :(

Hoping we don't get much more rain on it now to Saturday because it's pretty saturated right now.

I'm thinking (hoping) the track's dried a little. We had no rain an lots of sun after 2p.m. yesterday. Waiting for batt's to charge then I'm heading over to see!

update: Weather channel - looks like rain this afternoon.

Seemed like it was a good day for practice for the guys that stopped by. The track really "came in" after some running on it some. You should have stuck around for just about 5 more minutes Don because then you would have had some guys to run with.

Today was twice as good as last Sunday,But today taught me something today I'm pretty sure I won't be doing off-road.It's twice the hasal for half the fun so basically a win lose sitawation. The win: seeing your hard earned peace of work fly.The lose:Seeing your hard earned peace of work fly into something or land nose first.I have some souveniers from Rick's track stuck in my front bumper!! But I hope to come up to see the E-maxx race that will be very interesting!

Seems our newbies are deciding they don't like off road already and we haven't even started the season. Maybe a dirt oval could be in the future afterall if off road isn't going to fly? (that otta pop Paul in! LOL) We'll have to see how the season goes I guess. Hate to have put all this work into the new layout and we still don't get any people. :(

off-road takes a little more tuning than just going in a circle. you need to take the time to try different things, before you throw in the towel! No one just has the perfect set-up, you have to find it and no two are alike, what works for me, may not for you.

so next weekend is the opening race. what time are you starting? i am thinking of coming over again, i had a lot of fun last time. can't wait to see the new layout. offroad is so technical, it really tests your driving ability and knowledge about set ups. i hope you get enough people to keep the track open, i think if more people would try off road they would really like it. let me know the start times and i think i will be there sunday.

Hey tville....we'll be starting at 12:30 this year and ask everyone to please be signed up by 12:15. Remember those radios this time. :)

I just hope it quits raining here before long. We could have some pretty good boat races righ now in a couple areas of the track. Once it quits, it's gonna take a couple three days to dry out enough to work with it. :(

i will defiinately remember the radios this time. that was a good one, how can i leave the house and drive 100 miles without my radios? i will be there sunday if the rain lets up, i will check on here on fri. to see what is going on. the track looks really good and technical, should be fun. hope to see you guys on sunday if this rain ever lets up.

Right now the weather doesn't seem to be co-operating with us. It's still raining here on and off and that isn't supposed to stop till tomorrow afternoon and then we are supposed to get some more Thursday and Friday. :( It is supposed to be fairly nice Saturday and Sunday but I don't think one day of drying is gonna do it. I'll keep everyone posted as far as postponing our opening race goes but you might want to give the shop a call before coming over Sunday. 887-9256

The good news is that it seems there are no puddles left, it's partly sunny, and this weekend looks good.

The bad news is we are supposed to get some more rain tomorrow night and Friday. How much I don't know yet but we'll have to see how things shake out here.

Paul, I wish you were right but I dunno........

Haven't had any rain in a few hours now. Driveway and road are getting pretty dry. Wind has picked up which will help. Going to have Ma sweep off the couple puddles that are on the track tonight so that should help too.

What's that saying? Oh yea, "if you build it, they will come". Thanks to those guys that came out to PRACTICE today. What happened to everybody that wanted an off road track? Track conditions were PERFECT today and six people showed up! I hope this isn't what our season is going to be like or we might as well level the jumps out and plant a garden right now. A sincere sorry to those that showed up today and then we didn't race.

Um... let's see here... you started the races two weeks early. Maybe people aren't planning on coming until points start on the 1st. Also, occasionally unexpected circumstances do develop where people do not have the finances needed to race. You can not determine how the entire season is going to go by one day... not to mention some anal retentive people probably did not want to race seen as how it had rained the entire week prior to race day. Consider: if you build it, they will come was about building a baseball diamond for dead people to come play... not a race track for alive people to come race?!?!?

ALSO: Upon arrival at What Sounds Good in Olean, Don asked if we had any fliers... he had a ton of guys asking about a place to race... We need to hold a day and pass out fliers... put them on cars at the mall... ask local businesses if you can hang something in the window. A lot of places have bulletin boards that you can hang fliers on... I am in Olean almost every day... I just need the fliers and I'll hang them...

One final thought... some people have other things they would rather do when the weather is nice... I doubt that my dad or sandy will come very often this summer... they like to do yard work and garden. They love to come in the winter, because they can't be outside. Summer is the time when families have get togethers and picinics and weddings and so on and so forth...

Just keep your head up... I'm sure that people will come. We just have to get out there and let people know that there is a place to race... ;)

OvalmanPA
05-20-2003, 09:15 PM
It's not like no one knew when we were starting. :) I sent out in excess of 40 fliers to people on my mailing list along with, well let's have a look, an email to 35 people I have an email address to. Doing the math (I know, I might need a calc.) that is in excess of 75 people that should know when we started and 6 showed up? That worries me on what things are going to be, I'm sorry. I never thought about it when you were here Laura because I had made up some fliers for people to put out if they would for me much to the request of Chris. They don't just cover the off road but both tracks in general. I gave the dozen I had printed up to Johna today so she can put them in different places. I'll print up two dozen more and you can have them the next time you and Chris stop by. I figure points racing will bring more poeple this year but it seems like these same people would want some practice before it starts would they not? I already know Don and Andy won't be here this week.......four people this week maybe? :jest:

Haha, you've never heard the build it and they will come used for anything besides that movie? :p

Rick,

Don't be so down, that just upsets others and makes more people not want to go to a track where they will get criticized for not showing up one week. Some of us have other FAMILY things to do on Sundays. You ever heard of Church, Family dinners, picnics, birthday parties, these are all things that people have to do all the time with their families, especially on Sundays.

I hope to be there as soon as I put my Maxx back together, I saw that you took yours all apart and put it back together and you said it was fun, so I thought I try it, and it ain't back together yet. Pulled my batteries out of the closet and they wouldn't even take a charge, so have to see what happened to them.

Make fliers and put them somewhere else than Smethport. I just went by the train station yesterday and there were 4 kids with maxx's playing in the rock parking lot. I stop and told them about your track and of course they said what I hear all the time, I didn't know that there was any tracks around here. Get on the WLMI business show case for the locals. $80 a month, not to bad. It might not reach the right crowd, but it should reach their parents and grandparents. There is a lot of R/C vehicles in them there hills, just have to pull them out. About 40,000 fliers should about do it. The advertising business, says you should get 1 out of 100 hundred fliers handed out, to actually show up. Just food for thought, and as usual you won't listen to me anyhow.

Hope to see you soon, so I can punish you in person

Bye

Rick... this weekend is Memorial weekend. I'm letting you know now that Chris and I aren't going to be there. I am making him take me to Ellicottville for garage sale days... Any ways, I have no problem getting those fliers... Maybe we'll stop over this week...

Andy has a point... school kids would be perfect...

Practice? I hate practice, but that is just me... I don't want everyone to know my secrets!

Dad and Sandy didn't get a mailing... are they on your list? Sandy couldn't remember if she signed the paper or not?!?!

Yes, I have heard if you built it they will come... but it only works in the movies!!!
