An hour earlier? We had a few people complaining when we said we were going to start at 12 this year! I think overall it has worked out pretty well though. Of course we always have those that don't think 5 minutes between races is enough.

Hey Paul. There was a guy over in the General discussion area on the 3300 thread that wondered if anyone ever heard about Whiplash before. I posted about you and that I had talked to Terry and he seemed like a nice guy but you might want to post there too.

Racing for sure! These guys are pretty fast, but rubbing IS racing.
The main thing is to have FUN, that's what they're comming for. I'll bet we'll see more than 33 laps. There will probably be 2 heats which will mean alot less traffic too. Too bad....they won't get the real BuRP effect!

Any body thinking of giving Mod a try? I'm sure Bud will have some big blocks and conversion kits with him. I'm playing with something that may make mine alittle more driveable, just hope my 1 pack of 2/3A's hold up.

What a weekend of racing! Our visitors from Ohio in the BuRP class really were a nice bunch of guys. I don't know as anybody will be able to beat the run Mr. BRP himself laid down but it sure does give us something to shoot for. :) The double points kind of shook up a class or two also and I'm sure the rest of the season will be interesting.

Ten weeks in to our points season now and the racing contimues to be hot. A big surprise is that the Production class continues to be our largest class. Still good to see the new blood getting started in our hobby!

Sunday a couple of guys asked me about dirt modified bodies, and I'm not sure that I sufficiently answered the questions so here goes: I would call Nick DeAngelis. He has a phone # on his website, www.ndrb.net I just talked to him last night and it sounds like he is pretty busy so I'm not sure how fast he could get something done, but when it comes to modified bodies, he is the man!

OvalmanPA

Was it Chris or Kim that was looking for a mod body? One of them was telling me he emailed one of the guys from dirtoval.com and never heard anything back.

johnqpublic
02-04-2003, 02:21 PM
Chris mentioned that to me. I think he said that he e-mailed Mike Alivero, who I havnt heard much out of since the end of the dirt season. He may have changed email addys or something and not updated the site. Jason also asked me about bodies.

A little lighter crowd this week but still great racing once again. It hasn't taken Andy Eaton long to get to the winners circle in Production. He just started out racing a few weeks ago and earned his first A-main win this week. Looks like this boy is going to be one to watch in the coming years! Two bad weeks for me have tightened things right back up in the 2wd stock points battle. Canbquik was all ready to roll over and give up I think and he has made up 20 points and even moved into the lead now. Just goes to show that you can NEVER say die, right Chris? :)

first off, let's just say it was a good showing in the A-main for 'TEAM OLD LO' '. and yes Rick, I pretty much figured that the end had come:cry: , but I have past the bad misfortune to you:D . All I hope for is that it is tight enough at the end that the last race decides it! I really enjoy 2wd and I think I'll be a repeat offender next season, but I must start a new project for next season(say somewhere in the 40-45oz. range:devil:

Donalbain

With lightweight chassis still lingering in the 2wd stock class, will there ever be a "pro" designation with a weight limit? I've thought of it enough  to haul out the fiberglass plate I've been hangin' on to. All I need is a tough enough cutting wheel...:p

OvalmanPA
02-11-2003, 02:19 PM
That question was kind of asked by our two new 2wd drivers this week. I said probably not for now. We'll have to see what happens though. It is kind of aggrivating to have to move over for a terminator about every 5 laps or so. I had a little sleeplessness last night while thinking something over. I'm gonna be working a little bit on my first generation Pro stock truck tonight during practice. I think with a XX front shock tower and XX arms it might just work pretty well. :p Probably won't be ready for a few weeks but "testing" is definitly in the future. :D

Don, the thicker cutting disks work great for this. LOL

canbquik
02-11-2003, 02:20 PM
I understand, even with a fiberglass chassis I'm still WAY OVER the majority of the buggies. But, I guess if your going to run old stuff, you kinda have to expect that.:D Might not be the fastest buggy out there, but I still enjoy running the class:thumbsup:

johnqpublic
02-11-2003, 03:02 PM
Rick, I think that you could save everyone a lot of time and $$ if, effective immediately, you institute a weight rule for the car class. 50 or 52 oz is about right for these cars. I would be an offender right off the bat, but thats ok. This is a fun class, and I'd hate to see the #s dwindle because folks start to feel that they need to spend big bucks on lightweight parts.

Cobknocker!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a whole speal typed out and it told me I had to many smilies! Of course I hit back and lost the whole thing! Long story short, I don't think we can do that mid season now. It wouldn't hurt the majority of us I don't think but there would always be those that would complain. :)

Maybe later I'll try retyping what I had thought up before.

It's funny how some classes become more popular from year to year. We've had alot of fun in the 2wd class this year, hope it stays fun.
It was good to see pancars race on the oval again....makes me wish I could get ahold of one of those again for 5 minutes.

Go Team Old 'Lo

OvalmanPA

Yes it seems the 2wd stock class has been the bigger "non beginner" oval class this year. Last year it was the Pro stock truck class that was big. It was kind of nice seeing pancars here again too. Has probably been six years since I've seen a pancar race here. Makes me want a new L4. :)

What a week of racing. It took a little over a year but we finally have a new Production track record. Everything came together just right for Jahred Smith and he cut 4 seconds off the previous track record set last January. We also had a new track record in the 2wd stock class. It took a few visits to finally get it dialed in but johnqpublic finally got his "ugly ride" :) up to warp speed and ran a fast 69 to break the record. Congrats guys!

"The Ugly Ride"!!!....Outstanding! I love it.

I could smell a 70, but kust missed. Someone's gonna get there this year, I think!

Hey Burrows: You gotta step it up! Ovalman is running away w/ the point lead!

I'll try to do better next time! :D

Me thinks your car needs to go on a diet and exercise program!

This is what I was telling some of you about...maybe we'll have to make a road trip:

Oh sure, gonna gang up on the point leader now? LOL I finally got back up to that 64 lap pace I had it seems oh so long ago now. Ran it twice this week even but now it seems I'm stuck. :( I guess it's good enough to beat Burrows so far though.

Paul I figured you'd like that ugly ride comment. LOL You should have said it was Performance you were talking about. I remember looking at their site not to long ago because somebody had posted that their track was about done. It looks like it's gonna be a pretty nice facility! Oh to have an indoor track...........

Chris, bring your kitchen sink this week because it seems that's about all you haven't thrown at it!

I gotta fire mine too...he forgot about a certain transponder in his truck. I guess he wanted to see how fast he could make it home. I think Rick clocked him at 60 MPH lap time .....

Kim, how'd the car work at home with primary radio?

I just had an idea! I was driving along and noticed some of the local stockcar teams towing over to the Olean mall for the annual car show. It got me to thinking of when I lived back in Albany. We used to set up a "mall race" during the mall stock car show every year. I have never seen so many spectators at an R/C race as we had during those shows. The mall folks used to say the racecar shows were up there w/ Christmas when it came to crowds and business.

So then I thought that the "Racers-edge crew" could try and do something like that. I'd think that it would be a great way to promote local R/C racing by getting out in front of a whole bunch of race fans who might not know that R/C exists...or maybe spark some renewed intrest in some former racers who may be out there. At the very least maybe we could set up a table or a display w/ some cars and info....maybe some flyers or even a video!

I have always thought that R/C racing can never grow w/ out new blood, and you cant get new blood if the new blood dosent know R/C exists.

Whadda ya think Rick??

Hey all... Mrs. k1m had offered $2 for the mechanic... that is the highest bid at the moment

Paul... that is a great idea to have a little racing in the mall... But, I bet that Mr. Morgan's answer will be "maybe." That is the answer to most every question...

Speaking of which, when are we having the powder-puff brp race... huh, Rick???

There are alot of ways to get people involved in R/C, and your idea about the stock car show at the mall is an excellent one, Paul. Something like that would be a geat place for the BuRPs, since they don't need as much room. Kinda late for Olean, but there's still Bradford......There should be some room somewhere, nearly all the stores are gone!
We used to go all over during a season when we were parkinglot racing. It's alot of work hauling and setting up the track for every race, but we had some REALLY good times! I guess we never picked up many racers, but I know we exposed alot of people to hobby class R/C.

Ovalman: Was I the first theif? It's easy to do....
Radio seems A-OK.

LLB: Hope she gets the bid...I got alot of stuff for him to do.

First off, good idea but........ I know there is always a but right? We've been doing the parking lot series for about 4-5 years now. This year will be the first that we haven't been doing it. Why now you ask? Well for the work that has gone into it, it's basically a spectator attraction and that's about all. One of the main purposes of doing them was to get new people into the hobby/sport but in those 4-5 years of hauling pipes, computers, and sandbags all over gods green creation we've only seen about two new people get started. Between this and our racer count continuing to dwindle we've decided to call it quits on the travelng "circus" so to speak and concentrate on the off road racing. I mean we have traveled all the way to Cuba, NY the last couple years for 5-7 people. Don't get me wrong we always had help with setup and teardown thanks in a large part to Kim, Joy, and Don at most races but for what we were getting out of it, it's just not worth it anymore.

Booth perhaps could be done but a race, I don't think so. Anybody else wants to organize it you are more than welcome to. :D

Have you thought about what day or days to have the races on? Kinda on the other side, have you put ads in the money saver and ect a few weeks before start the season? I agree on the going all over the place as it sometimes was a pain to figure out where to go and how to get there. It seemed like you pulled more interest last year staying in one location? or at least it seemed that way when I would look at the race results. I seen some more new names that I hadn't seen before.

My thought behind the idea was that you'd be racing in front of racing fans...people who already have an interest in racing.

I'd say that most of the folks at the black cherry fest (or whatever) probably dont care too much about racing in general. Remember...most folks who sit on the sofa on Sunday afternoon think theyre a REAL racing fan....90% of them have never even been to a short track race. I dont know where I'm going w/ this....I'll stop now! LOL!

I'm kind of confused with your post Jim. Are you talking parking lot racing or off road racing? If you are talking parking lot racing then the race day has been dictated by when the festival in question has wanted us there. Advertising for these races have been everything from e-mails, to mailed fliers, to fliers in stores, to paper ads with the end result being lower turnouts thoughout the last few years.

As a side note guys. One thing I had forgotten to mention with the parking lot series that I won't miss is the weather factor. I don't know how many times we got to the location and then had it rain on us. At least with the off road track being here I don't have to worry about taking things anyplace and then getting rained out. Of course then there are the weeks we cancel and I have to hear about that, right guys. :D

I don't really know what to say Paul. It seems like this whole area is in a racing oriented location. I mean we have three racetracks within a 30 mile or so radius of us so it seems that most of the people that have seen us at these festivals have seen full size racing first hand. I don't really mean to sound negative but we've been trying to get R/C exposure to the public like this for years. :)

What got me started racing was actually an article about a local R/C club in the local paper. They were racing 15 minutes from my house, and I had no idea! I had already had a car lying around (my 1st car....a Tamiya Frog...LOL!) and I had seen R/C racing before, but since I was 14 and didnt have a drivers licence, and it was too far away to drag my mom every week, I didnt have much interest. Anyway, I went over and checked it out, scraped up some $$ and bought the parts to fix that 'ol Frog (which was why it got relegated to the shelf in the 1st place), and an oval racing body (I never could bring myself to runnin a buggy body on an oval, even at such a young age), and the rest as they say is history....ahhh, the summer of '88!

The offroad racing, although we didn't race it last year..I noticed new faces on the Race Results. Also remebering back..We saw the ad in the paper just after Christmas in 1997. We bought a Tamyia before we found out about it..which didn't work to good around the track and then had to buy another truck. Maybe for the winters anyways...Run a AD Towards the end of Oct...a couple of weeks prior to the start...then another Just before Christmas..It would've saved me a couple hundred bucks. :dude:

Only four weeks left to race now so the end is drawing near. To tell you the truth I'm getting kind of antzy to get it over with and the good weather to start so we can do some off roading but that's only my opinion. :) It's looking like the points lead for most of the classes is pretty cut and dried but it aint over till the fat lady sings as the say.
