You read that correctly friends, I said 1/16th scale.

Anyone else see these things yet?

They are more of a toyish looking RC car, and came in two body styles, two colors each; Pacer (Blue, Yellow) and Pinto (Black, Red). Priced at $19.74 each, and I'll be passing on all (too big, too "toyish", not into RC's, and too pricey).

There was a pretty big center-aisle display of 'em at the nearby WM. They are toyish-looking. But Rich, c'mon, don't ya love the blower on the Pinto?

As I posted on another thread, if I see that Pacer at a WM around here, I'll have to pick it up just to cruise around the driveway and terrorize the neighbors' cats... the other neighbors' dogs... my 2-year-old...

There's tons of cheap RCs these days at Wally's and TRU and even Dollar General type stores. Most are Fast and Furious-type rice rockets, some are supercars (Ford GTs and Vipers), some are trucks/SUVs (Humvees and Escalades come to mind), and lately I've even seen a resurgence in muscle cars (a Cutlass Supreme, a Firebird, a GTO). It tickles the crap out of me that this is a PACER, of all things. Compared to all the other stuff available, it's just so dorky, which of course makes it perfect...

Hey, I just noticed something odd. The 1/16 RC Pacer is a '77, while the 1/60 diecast Pacer is a '78. The grille and hood are significantly different. Now, I know it's an entirely different set of molds and dies and all for a little metal car and a big plastic one, but isn't it odd that they did two different years? I would think that it would have been simpler to stick with one model year... they could have used some of the same CAD or modeling stuff as a basis for the two, and in fact the 1/24 and 1/60 Gremlins are the same year... why did they pick different years for the Pacers? (IMHO, the '77 with the smaller grille looks better...)

But then the 1/24 and 1/60 Pintos are different years, though I thought I heard that there's no such thing as a 1970 Pinto...

Things that make you go hmmmmm....

Priced at $19.74 each... (snip)

yeah, well check out what this scuzball says about how he's seen them go for $60 each. Don't you just want to spray paint all over his auction,

"OR YOU CAN GO TO FREAKIN' WAL-MART AND GET IT FOR 20 BUCKS!!!"

for buyers to see?

stinkin' GHINS...

ooooops. Did I do what I think I did?

That post was supposed to include a link to this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-amc-pacer-remote-control-r-c-car-1-blue-1-yellow_W0QQitemZ6060133636QQcategoryZ19168QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem

In case it's removing or editing the link, it's Fleabay auction # 6060133636

The guy is selling two R/C Pacers with a BIN of $60, and in his auction text he claims he's seen them go for $60 each.

Makes a lot more sense when I don't forget vitally important info, huh? Duh. Sorry about that. Dude, I'd never call you a scuzball unless... well... unless you were a scuzball, I guess...

edit: oh, and GHINS is Gotta Have It Now Syndrome

Well, on the one hand, you have a product that can only be bought retail ,for $20, as far as we know (vendors other than Wal mart are supposedly shut off from distributing these WM exclusives, we are told) so anyone selling them pays $20 for them. No one is in business (even E Bay sellers) to make nothing, so it stands to reason that you'd have to pay over the $20 to buy one from one of these vendors.

I checked some "completed" listings, and while I didn't see a single car go for $60 as he claims, I did see several in the thirty to forty five dollar range that sold. He's sold a few of the $60 pairs already, and he's making ten bucks each on a car that truly has limited availability (note that I didn't say limited "production"), and he's shipping both cars for five bucks. I've seen these cars, and it's got to cost easily over $10 to ship them Priority Mail anywhere in the U.S.

I have seen $20 1/18 cars go for $30-40 plenty of times (the old K Mart Route 66 cars went over $50 each regularly, for the right one). I don't know the seller, buy I honestly don't think he's off base asking $60 for two $20 cars when he's taking a $5 hit off the profit in the shipping. He ends up making what, $7.50 a car? What would you consider to be a fair price, if you lived in "My-local-WalMart-ain't-got-one-of-these"ville USA ?

I wouldn't even take one for free, but that's more a matter of taste. :drunk:

Hmmmmm. Didn't think about it that way. I have 2 convenient Wallys, and I guess I was just being annoyed that I might have a hard time finding these at one because someone is going in and buying them all up to sell on the 'Bay. (Even though that's a perfectly acceptable--and even smart--thing to do. It's called a free market system. It's just not working to my advantage at the moment... ) So technically, I probably have GHINS too, I'm just not willing to spend the money to get it now, so I'm p!$$ing and moaning instead. I guess there are plenty of people who DON'T have a local WM, and I guess these are a fair deal for them. But when i couldn't find the FC diecasts, I absloutely refused to cave and get them online... I just kept going back till I found them. I should probably quit whining and just plan on working Wally's into my commute home again for a while...

Yeah, sure, go ahead. Splatter a whole bunch of perspective across my windshield when I least expect it. :D

Actualy Rick, I just got a good dose of perspective splattered on my windshield, as well. How would I feel if I went to my only (for the sake of argument) area WM, and found that one clown was hoarding every one of these, leaving me no recourse but to pay him more $$$ on E Bay. I'd probably not be very happy with Mr. "Free Enterprise" and his hoarding, either.

You were right, he IS a scuzball!
