The yard sale season is upon us; I've been hunting for the last couple of months. My primary goal is to find slot cars, but I almost never find any... I find a lot more diecast and other toy cars than slots. These are from the last few weeks. Nothing ancient or valuable, but still some cool old toys...

These were at a yard sale on the way home from church today. The big bug says Hubley on the bottom... something about a division of Gabriel. The Tootsie dune buggy is in really nice shape... I usually leave these when I see them, but the paint on this was too nice. And the tin Ford, I think is a newer toy made to look like an old one, but I liked it anyway... There was also a Micro Machines Mercedes in this bunch that I gave to my son.

These are from a yard sale I almost didn't stop at... they had almost nothing out, but the little boy sitting there looked so sad that I had to stop. I was glad I did, I got this whole lot for a dollar. In a big box of mostly newer Hot Wheels and plastic junk was this stuff. I actually said to the kid, "I bet your dad is about my age..." Yep, these were all his dad's, and he decided to stop hanging on to all this junk. I never knew Tootsie did a Gremlin like that, and the other Tootsie looks like a mid 60's El Camino, which I also never saw before. The Tonka is for my 4-year-old. He saw it and had to have it. And that Matchbox hauler truck is just way too cool. Anybody know what originally came on the back of this one?

This looks like about 1/32 scale, could have been a copy of a slot car. The friction motor still works. It says ZEE on the bottom. 25 cents.

Remember these? One is from a yard sale, one is from Goodwill. They both work, though I don't think they're as fast as when they were new...

This was at an antique flea market... It had been sitting in the same booth on the same shelf for months, and I couldn't bear to let it sit any more. It's HEAVY... the body is metal, I'm pretty sure. Put batteries in it and the sucker still works... forward, backward, left, right. It's weird... push the "go" button and it goes forward, use the L and R buttons to steer. Release and push the "go" button again and it goes backwards, and the L and R buttons are REVERSED... makes it really hard to drive, actually... It says Shinsei on the bottom and Radio Elecon on the controller.

Finally, this Yatming was a quarter at a thrift store. It's really beat, but I've been looking for the one with the wood on the sides for a while...

Ah, the yard sale season is still young...

Nice stuff. I wish I had time to stop by yard sales. Always seems like I am having to take the kids somewhere. On the plus side with the kids; one time one of my kid got to pull a toy out of the treasure box for doing something good and pulled out a Tomica 300ZX. I let her pick out some HW's to make a trade.

I have the yardsale bug also. It's hard for me to take the time also but allready it's been worth it.
I am beginning to enjoy the vintage side of diecast collecting, less money and less competition.

I really enjoyed seeing your fine pix - Great finds, one & all...especially that hopped up Tootsietoy Gremlin.

I had the one below in white when I was a kid; I think it's a Chaparral - my aunt sold mine at a yard sale while I was in college (Yes, I forgave her!) It was always one of my favorites, though.

That Countach appears to be a very accurate model, with great proportions and fine detailing. Definitely worth having. Even the wheels look correct for a Lambo. Might have been a pretty expensive toy when new.

Can you tell if the Yatming station wagon is intended to be a Ford, a Mercury, or maybe an AMC Matador? (That would be extra sweet if it's the AMC.)

It's a Ford, according to the base, but they don't list the specific model:

Playart made a car that looks very similar, but is actually a Mercury. I've seen police and fire chief versions, but I don't remember ever seeing a civilian version. I sent a beater fire chief version to a friend in Germany, and he made resin cast copies to mount on Aurora Thunderjet slot car chassis. In the pic below, the green car is the resin cast:

Zylmex (Zee) did evidently make some plastic toys, here's a McLaren, also from a garage sale about two years ago.

Nice finds ParkRNDL! Do you know of the old Hubley diecast kits of the Model A Fords, 30's Chevys, 30's Parkards, and 30's Duensenbergs? Hubley started making the Model A Fords in the late 50's. These kits were somewhere around 1/25 scale. Gabriel bought Hubley in the late '70s or early '80's. I had all the kits that Hubley made (MIB). I sold them in the early '80's to a Hobby Store. Now that I think of it, I don't think Gabriel bought Hubley when I sold those kits to the Hobby Store. The Hobby Store paid me a fair price for the kits at that time, because they weren't available anymore. Later these kits were reissued by Gabriel, I'm guessing in the early '80's.

Hope that helps dating the VW (Hubley/Garbriel).

I think it's a Zee as well, but it's not at my house at the moment, so I couldn't say for sure.

Good finds, all of them!
You have to love a low buck deal...
All I could come up with today at the market of fleas was a box of broken tab AF/X track...
I left it there...
I have one of those Gremlins also...
What a horrible reproduction...
