Could be, but one can't tell from the pic provided. Original "Candy" Tjets were painted red, blue or green over a silver base, but chipped easily so Aurora went with vacuum plating (chrome) in a myriad of colors, including but not limited to the peach color listed.
How does one tell the difference?
1) Strip the chrome off and see if the car is molded in base plastic (semi opaque like a JL) if so, then it's a push car. Of course this isn't the best thing for collectability.
2) Look at the screw post length, slot car bodies all have a longer screw post that will extend down below the lowest part of the car when held at eye level. The Jaguar and GP racer are the most difficult to tell but again they are still longer.

Definitely a Cigarbox body. We see them at the shows for $15-20. Heck of a scam if e-bay suckers are willing to pay over $200 for one on a chassis.....
ParkRNDL 05-19-2006, 12:04 PM Doesn't the width of the stripe have something to do with it too? When comparing push cars and slots, I thought one had narrow and one had wide... I think I actually have one of each GT40 (beater bodies, one wide stripe, one narrow) at home. I'll try to remember to go home and look...

videojimmy 05-19-2006, 03:55 PM wow, I have about a dozen of these. I wonder if I should part with a few?
I have a perfect purple LOLA with a sliver stripe on an original tuff one chassis. Anyone here want to give me 200 bucks for it?
didn't think so. Oh well.
ParkRNDL 05-19-2006, 04:52 PM Got these both as 1-dollar junk bodies from slot shows.

Look at the screw posts... the peach car has a longer front screw post than the silver one. The guy who sold me the peach one actually pointed out that it had the narrow stripe which made it a slot car, as opposed to the wide stripe which he said was on Speedline/Cigarbox cars. Whether or not that's really the rule I don't know... I figured for a dollar it was a good deal either way...

edit: FWIW, the winning bidder at the moment on that auction is a fairly knowledgeable collector/vendor that I see at shows in NY and PA... can't remember his name for the life of me but I recognize his Fleabay ID, it's the same as the email addy on his business card...
Well at least 2 big timers were willing to pay around 10 bucks for it :hat:

To an extent, it's Urban legend.......as late production GT40's have W-I-D-E stripes and are slot cars. In my opinion, it's most likely a result of the paint mask used for the push cars being used on the slots to save money. With that said, the stripe is a good indicator for the Candy cars (chrome or paint) since Candy cars appeared early on in the lineage of Tjets, it's unlikely they would have had the wide stripe.
