I have an HP Pavillion a610e about 1 1/2 yrs old.
The other night I obviously placed a CD crooked in the CD player and now it won't open back up when I press the button.
I can hear the process begin but the unit doesn't slide open.
I pulled the door down and stuck a paperclip in the tiny hole but that didn't actuate anything.
What can I do?
Must I remove the side cover?
Is the CD unit completely enclosed if I do remove the side cover?

You can take the side cover off, take the cd player out, should be able (more then likely a samsung player) and take the cover off the player to take it out, the disk will more then likely get damaged.

Never mind,
I was told the CD units are completely encased.

I just pressed on the door while I simultaneously pressed the release button and the door slid open.

Works fine.

Most CD Drives are screwed shut with common phillips screws. Only a few I know of use torx, or even security torx, which makes it that much more difficult to fix a jammed tray.

The seals that they use to maintain proof of warranty are oftentimes damaged when we remove the drive to do other work, then slide it back in.

If you look closely there is a teensy hole in the front of most disc players. Just shove a thin rod in and it forces the door open. That's what techs do, and charge you 30 bucks.
