View Full Version : My uncle gave me his old 1/32 stuff!
ParkRNDL 05-15-2006, 01:57 AM I always knew my uncle had an old 1/32 Strombecker set that he was hanging onto. Well, he was cleaning out his basement, and he showed it to his sons, and none of them were interested in keeping it... so he gave it to me, since I'm the only slothead in the family. Box of track, two transformers, and one Mustang, all pretty beat. I had seen it when I was a kid, and read the old Strombecker manual, so I assumed it was all Strombecker stuff. Well, now that I know a little more about slots, a closer look at the Mustang reveals that it's actually K & B, who partnered up to make larger-scale stuff with Aurora. The wheels were tightened on wrong and binding the rear axle up, but once I loosened stuff a little she fired right up... verry interresting...

ParkRNDL 05-15-2006, 10:36 PM Nah, I've actually just started branching out from HO, fooling with old 1/32 stuff and starting a little collection... I'm kinda digging the idea of fixing it up.

rick,
have you decided on which way you're going to go with respect to track/set/piece meal? I'm toying with an upgrade to 1/32, just haven't convinced myself whether I should pick up Scalextrix, Carrera or possibly ARTIN. I'm in no rush, still have lots to do with the HOs. Dave

If I was buying new track, from everything I've read, I'd definitely go the budget route and get Artin. By all accounts, it's just as good as the more expensive stuff. However, I happen to have come across a good-size stash of old Eldon track. It's pretty junky on the quality scale, but since I have noplace right now to permanently set up ANY 1/32 track, junky or otherwise, I'm stuck. The plan is to reorganize my junk in the basement so maybe I can set up a SECOND 4x16 table in addition to the HO table. If/when I get that far, I'll set up the Eldon track on it and bomb around a little, and maybe at that point I'll take the plunge and get some Artin track. The problem with that is that Eldon track has a very shallow slot... the cars' guides would have to be changed to run their best on newer track. I'll jump off that bridge when I get to it...
Oh by the way Scott, I haven't actually run it yet since it needs tires... the motor sounds pretty good, though...

You any good with wood?
Rout your own track to fit the area you have...
Scott
ParkRNDL 05-16-2006, 06:08 PM sadly, no.
I love nuts and bolts and wrenches and kits and replaceable parts.
But me and saws and tape measures DO NOT get along.
oh well...

Cool, but you'll have to change your screen name to ParkRNDLHO132 (ROFL).......
Be very careful when running said car, while I LOVE the way the chassis handles. However, this particular body cracks VERY easily along the drivers side front fender to the glass, so if it hasn't yet cracked, don't run it hard. In the 80's, Monogram made a static reproduction of this kit you can steal parts from it to restore yours or easily modify to run as a slot.

hey, thanks a bunch for the tips. I was wondering if I'd be able to find the bumpers and glass, as they're MIA. Sounds like if I watch Fleabay for one of those kits I may be in luck.
Wow, now that you have me looking closely at this thing, it's LOADED with stress cracks. One runs high along the driver's fender and door... another is a V shape on the hood... there's another on the roof along the top of the passenger window... and a few more random ones. Guess this one is only gonna see easy laps. I won't be letting the kids drive this one...
