View Full Version : Fresh Cherries Frustration

Did a little JL hunting today, and brought along a FC car I just "borrowed" from dadvball. These cars never showed up in any Rhode Island Wal Marts in 1/64 scale, though I've seen the 1/24s in a couple.

I recall a member here who posted that he worked for Motor Max, and I believe something was mentioned about asking a store to order them in. So, I took the car in to three different stores to see if I could get them to order any, even if it meant my having to buy a case myself.

What an exercise in futility. In one store, the Manager on duty said she couldn't help me figure out if they could order any in, I'd have to come back tomorrow and speak with the Toy Dept Manager, who had just left for the day at 4PM. I took the car into the Toy Dept. as I checked some pegs, and just for giggles passed it under the "Price Check" scanner, and it didn't even recognize the bar code.

Next store, I waited twenty minutes for the Assistant Manager to finally call the service desk. While I waited, one employee went on to WalMart.com to see if I could order the cars online. You can't. The other employee (young girl) insisted that I should contact the manufacturer and order direct from them by the gross (sorry, 12 cars is my limit, honey). When the Manager finally called on the walkie talkie, he couldn't have been less interested and just said no, they can't order them in.

Last store, I went right to the Toy Dept. and the woman there said that this particular store is on a "not allowed to order" program because their inventory is so screwed up that corporate took over the automatic ordering from the store personnel.

I was hoping that I could get 3 or 4 stores to order these in, so area collectors (besides me) could have access to them. 0 fer 3. :freak:

It appears I'd have better luck building a home made rocket.

Hey Rich, one (of three) Walmarts seems to have/get a lot of 1/64th FCs. Let me know if you need some. (This will probably be moved to MotorMax board by the way).

Maybe you should post this on the Motormax sponsored Motormax board. ;)

My Wally had FC radio control cars yesterday, Pinto and another Ford.
I think they were 1/24 scale or 1/18. :freak:

It's wierd the way WM seems to work. One WM near me had several dozen FC (2nd order they got in), while another WM across town has had none.

AAAAACK i want one of them... on the Motor Max website they show two FC R/C cars--a red Pinto, which is kinda goofy with the blower sticking thru the hood, and a blue Pacer, which I absolutely HAVE to get so I can chase the neighbor's cat around the driveway with it...

....poor kitty

Wally's IS weird. I have been to some and there are no pegs for FC; last week, I stopped in at one near work and they had about 4 pegs full of the 1:64 (picked up the green and the black Mustang II's, the orange Pinto, and the white Maverick). They also had a bunch of the 1:24 Pintos. Didn't pick up any of those but one piece I did pick up is the 1:24 MotorMax Ford GT in the light blue with orange striping. I was very pleased to get this car and it now is displayed next to my Majorette Ford GT 40 w/ similar paint.

Looked for this this morning, and didn't see it. Finally found it. Most other threads that get moved still appear on the JL page, with the word: "Moved". and a link to the new location. This one didn't (???) and took a while to find. I guess this board was set up during my "break" and I must've missed it.

I'd think that with a limited mention on the board in the past, a forum for Motor Max would quickly fizzle out (kinda like the distribution of Fresh Cherries themeselves, eh?) but that doesn't appear to be the case.

So, getting back to the subject, has anyone had any luck convincing a store to order these???

I have only seen the 1/24 at Wla Mart in Coventry. I have been looking for the 1/64 and have asked and get a weird look.

As far as the inventory being screwed up, it is their own fault. In one store (NK) they have Jesse James motorcycles 1/18th R/C with a skelton rider for 12.00 then you go to another and they are 48.00 (Johnston). Now if you look closely, NK had a bunch and still seemed no one bought them, then they were gone. Johnston had a decent number of them, but then all of a sudden they have an entire encap of them - maybe somebody is making some cash here.

Wal Mart will take back anything. I suspect that is why TRU has changed its return policy.

Another thing I saw at Wally. Two moths ago a guy has 8 train sets and 5 Carrera Fantasic Four 1/43 slot tracks. I had been watching the slot tracks - 50-60 bucks. I knew they would put them on clearance - he got them at clearence and must have known someone. No biggy I lost out. Well two weeks ago, there are the 6 train sets and 2 fantastic four slot sets. At least I got the slot set at --- 13.00.

Sorry for the rant.

Please email me at sales@rbitoys.com, and I will hook you up with sellers who can sell you these by the case.

I have the same problem,of all the WM stores around here,I've only found the cherries at one location, and there I only found the 1/64 ones,no 1/24 to be seen. I bought quite a few the first time I found them, but haven't been back to see if they have restocked yet.
