Did a little JL hunting today, and brought along a FC car I just "borrowed" from dadvball. These cars never showed up in any Rhode Island Wal Marts in 1/64 scale, though I've seen the 1/24s in a couple.
I recall a member here who posted that he worked for Motor Max, and I believe something was mentioned about asking a store to order them in. So, I took the car in to three different stores to see if I could get them to order any, even if it meant my having to buy a case myself.
What an exercise in futility. In one store, the Manager on duty said she couldn't help me figure out if they could order any in, I'd have to come back tomorrow and speak with the Toy Dept Manager, who had just left for the day at 4PM. I took the car into the Toy Dept. as I checked some pegs, and just for giggles passed it under the "Price Check" scanner, and it didn't even recognize the bar code.
Next store, I waited twenty minutes for the Assistant Manager to finally call the service desk. While I waited, one employee went on to WalMart.com to see if I could order the cars online. You can't. The other employee (young girl) insisted that I should contact the manufacturer and order direct from them by the gross (sorry, 12 cars is my limit, honey). When the Manager finally called on the walkie talkie, he couldn't have been less interested and just said no, they can't order them in.
Last store, I went right to the Toy Dept. and the woman there said that this particular store is on a "not allowed to order" program because their inventory is so screwed up that corporate took over the automatic ordering from the store personnel.
I was hoping that I could get 3 or 4 stores to order these in, so area collectors (besides me) could have access to them. 0 fer 3. :freak:
It appears I'd have better luck building a home made rocket.
