View Full Version : 1/32 For under $4
Rauncy 05-05-2006, 02:21 PM 1/32 RC NKOK twin pack battery operated cars @ Walgreens buy 2@ $5.99 get the 3rd pkg free @ $11.98 = 6 cars. Plus SCX guides 3 @ $3.99. Easy to convert over to a slot car.
These car were sold as RC cars for a set that ran on a indoor slotted track or outdoors. They replace the guide pin with a wheeled guide inclosed one of the battery compartments and took out the rc board and made a toy car that would go around in circles or in a straight line for small kids. Do a google for NKOK battery operated cars and you'll see.
69 302 Boss Mustang , 69 GTO Judge , Camaro , #3 Daytona Vette Andy Prilgrim/EarnhartSr/Jr , #91 Viper GT1 and few other that slip my mind right now. Raunchy
noddaz 05-05-2006, 03:37 PM I need to find a Walgreens..
Thanks for heads up...
Rauncy 05-05-2006, 04:06 PM The guides you'll have to get at a hobby store. Plus if you can scratch build a chassis these bodies are great for that. As far as the quality of the axles ,tires ,wheels ,and motor... Well you can always buy aftermarket stuff and really make then better. Raunchy
Pomfish 05-06-2006, 07:25 PM Got 3 packs of these today at Walgreens.
69 GTO and 69 Chevelle 396
Chrysler 300 & Dodge Hemi Magnum
Corvette CSR & Viper GTSR
Now then, what SCX part # do I ask for at hobby shop? Or online?
Thanks for the heads up! Can't wait to run them and tune them.
Probably have to run power much lower if they respond to 1.5 volts, they are probably 6 volt motors.
Thanks,
Keith

noddaz 05-09-2006, 09:13 PM The Walgreens near me had one set left...
So no discount...
So I left them..
Rauncy 05-10-2006, 10:12 AM @ Pomfish : just about any 1/32 flag guide will work. SCX is the only one that my hobby shop carried. Also I ran my @ 7.5 & 16 volts this weekend and they held up real good but I'll probably stay @ 7.5 cause of the short straight I have (7 ft) on a raodcourse.
TRADE : The Vette & Viper for a Camaro and a Chevelle complete cars. eamil me @

Could have sworn I posted something to ParkRNDL about NKOks. Must have whizzed in the sink ... thinking I'd moved the dishes . . .
Anyway, have Walgreens all over by me. If someone wants 3-sets of 2-cars [last pricing was $11.98] don't mind helping out. Just would have poster pay for shipping and cost of cars [plus 5.5 percent tax], gotta pay the governor.
Keep in mind the trucks may be nifty, if you like trucks, but will be restrictive to modifications because of bed. Also, the SUVs are more like 1/38.
Also a couple of threads with NKOK conversions this forum you might take a look at.
As said in thread, any flag will do, almost. Find that leading edge Jet or similar style works easiest. Chassis, some use Artin, some use existing, some something else.
The Viper posted uses original chassis, original gear train, and modified motor. Had to use magnet, since with motor hanging off backside, causes front to be light. So added light magnet to washer weights.
The motors in the NKOK cars are same S-can as used by Scaley, Carrera, et al. In fact brush holder is exactly the same. Arm is pretty much the same, some ohm variance. Having said that, ohms range all over the place, even in other slot S-cans. The two major differences in say a Carrera S-can and NKOK S-can are brushes, and metal bushing on endball. If you had a pair of brushes from say a Scaley, Slot.it, Carrera, whatever.
All you'd have to do is take off endball, and replace brushes, that's it. Would take, maybe five minutes at the most. As for bushing, to keep it simple, just cut piece of brass tube for arm to go into, enlarge endball hole just enough. So you need to "push" in brass piece, put back together, add a little light oil, all set.
In the NKOK ... as said brushes are copper wires. One reason I modified the motor like in the Viper.
Anyhow, the simplest means to convert NKOK to slot. Is to use same chassis. To use a Jet or similar flag. Then simply remove motor and place in any S-can that has carbon brushes. Slip on decent tires over existing wheels. True them a bit. Use double sided tape, see Viper, for magnet. Go racing.
Depending on tires, motor, and such ... inexpensive racing to be had. If like me and have donor stuff about, NKOK cost is 2-bucks, not much to pay for not so expensive racing.
Could use NKOK motor, but with wire brushes, won’t last long. When you see smoke, means brushes are done. One reason I modified the NKOK motor, was to replace wire brushes with carbon.
Typing extemporaneously, probably got redundant . . .
Hope the above helped a little . . .
ParkRNDL 05-13-2006, 06:55 PM hey Jas, I saw your post, I was just pretty much repeating myself on 2 different threads...
like in the other thread I posted that my dad found me 4 NKOKs... Camaro, Mustang, 300, and Magnum. Hope to get converting soon...
