I need some tips for this, i'm trying to make the hood on the 83 H/O JL casting, but i seem to have ran into something that might prevent me from doing such... theres no 'cowl' area behind the hood. Basicly the hood just buts up against the window with no place to cut to seperate.

What i though of doing was cutting the hood out, and mounting a small piece of brass tubing across the length of car and use that has my 'hood' support.

And then notch the tube enough to allow a small rod to pass though and attach to the hood itself for the hinge.

Do i have a good idea as to what to do, or am i just making more work for myself?

That sounds like a good idea to me. If you decide to go ahead with this type of project please take pictures alon the way. I'd like to see how this is done.

A picture would be helpful as I'm not familiar with the casting. Off the top of my head I'd probably try to make a firewall out of copper foil or tin. Since the hoods going to open I think I'd want some seperation between the passenger compartment and the engine. Unless its going to be a 1/4 mile'er. But I'd need to see what we're talkin' about.

Hurmmm, your right, would need a firewall also... guess i could somehow attach the tube to that... i know im going to have to custom make some wheel wells and everything too... we'll just wait and see when i got more time to actually cut the hood off (already got the t-tops done  )

check out www.hotworldcustoms.com Its full of alot of really good info and can keep you reading for hours. There is a sections on hinges and making doors, I believe it would be similar for a hood. Good luck

Yea, i went to the website earlier this week (hence where i learned about the rods and everything :p )

But the difference between my problem and the door, was there was a place to put the tube for the door. However think ima take the advice and manufacture a firewall for the car and attach the tube to it... just gotta get the time to mess with it right now.
