The WDRA Super Dirt Series is gearing up for the outdoor season, and a big couple of months.

It all starts on May 20th with series stop number 4 at Fingerlakes Raceway. With the upcoming Summernationals also being held at Fingerlakes, this should be a perfect way for everyone to get laps on the track’s daytime surface.

Current Modified point leader Kevin Ridley may relinquish the top spot, due to commitments with his full scale DIRT Sportsman efforts at Canandaigua Speedway. This could put Jeff Hotaling in the driver’s seat, on the strength of 2 race wins already this season. Former WDRA Champion Terry Schmitt currently occupies the third position in the standings and will be looking for his first win of the season on the tour. Another former series champion, Matt Olmsted and past Open Wheel race winner Jim Carr are deadlocked for 4th in the standings, and will be looking to move up.

Over in the Big Block division, things couldn’t get much closer. The "Tonawanda Terror", Dean Anderson currently sits atop the standings. Jim Carr, who has been doing double duty thus far in 2006 is second, while north-country runner Dan Gill has perhaps been the surprise of the year, and is currently third. Jeff Hotaling, has also been doubling up and is in 4th, while Defending series champ Dale Hartzell rounds out the top 5. Only 4 points separate the top 5 drivers in Big Block.

In a new series record, 11 drivers have perfect attendance in the Small Block division. John Renshaw leads the way, but has a slim two-point lead over Sean "Meatball" Leonard. One more point back is fan favorite, EJ "Frenchie" French. In a 3-way tie for 4th, we find Brady Snell, Jan Poyneer and "Big Jim" Decker.

Fingerlakes Raceway will open at 10:00 am for practice, and racing will start at noon sharp. The format will be 2 rounds of qualifying followed by bump-up mains. All A-Mains will be 50 laps. This should allow all of us to make it to Canandaigua to watch Mr. Ridley race with the big boys!

In other WDRA news, details for the Summernationals on June 23-25 are being worked out at this time. Its looking like we’ll go back to the shirts this year. Things are shaping up nicely, I hear that the track was in great shape for opening night, and this should be the biggest Summernats to date!
