Well what do you need to know about the carb? Did you look on the carb itself?

do you mean for a part #? there is one on there but it is illegible. i tried to id it from the briggs site but the ones on there don't really look like it. i know that briggs type numbers are supposed to tell you this info but i don't have the key to type discriptions.

According to the IPL from www.briggsandstratton.com there are 3 types of carbs. 1) Primer System (498170) 2) Choke System (499059) 3) Autochoke System (790845)

The 6 digit numbers are the B&S part number. does that help?

sorry i have been away. did get the ipl from briggs but it is not descriptive enough to tell me which carb on that list goes on my mower.

Question I picked up a post hole digger with a 5 B&S motor no carb. this is an older unit it came with no carb ,what type do you think is the correct type for this application. I haven't found the mod. number yet. thanks eD ke6bnl

Looks like the model number may have been ground off the top there. Check on the right hand side of the cowling (opposite the side with the fuel tank) and see if the numbers are on there. This assumes the cowling has not been replaced with one from some other engine.
