If everyone is in agreement that the five I just threw out there (the Cordoba, Granada, Cavalier, Valiant, and GM wagon for those of you who weren't paying attention) are "The Ones", perhaps the next step would be to petition Motormax to put them into production, again in ALL scales???

Dear All:

I agree with the five above. Regarding the Cavalier,Revell did a model of the last Generation Coupe,if I am not mistaken.

I also agree with a decent model of the Taurus.

Madmanmark,

I like your last 5 but the GM cars like the Cavalier, Cimmaron,Sunbird, Firenza and Skyhawk would probably not make in HO scale because of their small size. Motormax was set to do the Vega in HO but cancelled due to the car being too small for HO. It has to be 2.25" long to qualify according to GM. Trust me, I would love to see it because the Cimmaron was the second car on the list of cars that I have ever owned.
How about a 1988 Olds Delta 98? Or Buick Lesabre? Larger GM cars are the way to go in HO.

I agree with everyone that cars like the Taurus and late '80s GM B and C bodies should be done, but in time - every dog has his day. What I'd like to accomplish now is to present a list of cars to Motormax which reflects the wants of the vast majority of the collectors on this board. I'm sure nobody has all five of their favorites on this list - I sure don't. I really want to see a '75 Seville - but there are definitely more than one car on this list which EVERYBODY would like, and that's the point. The more people we can get interested in this list, the greater the likelihood Motormax would be interested in producing it.

I'm very agreeable to many different choices of cars but let's make it American cars only from the 70's-80's. No European cars! And hopefully, fewer cars with the color black. Earth tone colors are much better for this period: tan, beige, cream, taupe, brown, etc. Actually, most top 5 lists have been very good as long as no European cars are in it. Keep in mind, in HO scale practically every Porsche, BMW, Audi, Mercedes Benz and VW are made. I actually have purchased my share of these but now it's time to go American!

Actually, when I think of car colors of the '70s, I can't get out of my mind the palette of colors Cadillac offered in '74 and '75: Orange metallic, Lime metallic, Purple metallic (kickin' with a white Cabriolet roof), Fire Engine Red, and so on.

What do you have against the european cars? :( Still are tons of european cars never made in 1/60 scale and maybe you´re european and you have many 1/87 cars in many europeans, but there so many people that is looking for european cars in 1/60 with never done models. So, don´t take off the inspiration of MotorMax if that brand wish to make some europeans cars nevcer made in 1/60 ( and also some japanese)

ilikecolllectdi,

Please read my post carefully, I'm talking about HO scale cars because I'm a HO scale model railroader. If Motormax makes European cars in 1/60 scale that's great, but I'm talking about HO SCALE! In HO, American cars have been forgotten until recently. I appreciate Motormax and their efforts in HO but I want to keep it American and anything from the 70's-2007 is fine by me.

Dear All:

Regarding HO Vehicles,up to the end of the last Century,Europe (specially Germany) was the major model manufacturer of these;so there are major variety of BMWs,Mercedes,Volkswagens and other assored European makes at this scale. Even the Japanese did not wanted to deal with it.But by early 2004,Ricko,a Chinese model manufacturer of 1/18 scale vehicles entered at this market, yet the models offered are European as a majority, albeit some items as Chrysler 300 and PT Cruiser,Dodge Charger,Lincoln Continental are welcome, and despite the fact that they had problems with GM (as far as licecing is concerned),models like the Escalade were made.

The major HO vehicle manufacturers, such as Wiking,Herpa,Busch,Brekina and Rietze do give priority to European prototypes;companies like Herpa does not want to mold American cars, pure and simple and neither the other Ho Model Companies listed above want to as well;Busch did in the past, but since they are the distribuitors for Ricko, they are now letting the latter develop American Prototypes.

The fact that Motormax started to do vehicles in HO was a surprise, but their predecessor,Zylmex/Zyll/Zee also had, albeit small,a line of HO vehicles which were replicas of semi tractors or military tanks (and a Jeep). Not only that, but Motormax is doing vehicles that no one really wants to do, and at the next batch of HO releases,a couple of Hondas are part of the line up. Other Company which should be not forgotten is High Speed, which, under Malibu and Model Power, also bought an interesting variety of both American and European Prototypes;the Reel Rides are also not to be forgotten,as they also are good sellers and offer interesting Prototypes. The Chinese are getting to this market, that is a fact.

Other two new Companies, such as Masterpiece and River Point Station also will offer American Prototypes (mostly modern) and the near future, and Atlas,an HO manufacturer of Model Trains, offered in the past a Ford F-150 1997 and the final generation of the Ford Taurus and now will release soon a Fairmont 4-door sedan and Station wagon.

Despite all that, the European Manufacturers listed above still have the majority as far HO vehicles are concerned and they do not have any plans to add American Prototypes to their line up.

And the proof is the fact that the HO Fresh Cherries and Reel Rides literally disappear from the shelfs,no matter where they are sold.

Dear All:

Also,as a follow-up, there are several major manufactures of HO vehicles in Europe;some are as big as Herpa, and some are quite small operations.

I can't think of who that manufacturer was but a few years back I saw a very nice HO scale 67 Ford Custom 4 door sedan in gold and then a taxi version of it. The same manufacturer also had a nice 78 Chevrolet Impala 4 door sedan with Taxi and police versions. The Ford may have come in a police version too, I just never saw one. I almost bought them as they were very nicely done but, I only collect 1/64 scale so I passed on them. Does anyone know who made these? I have not seen them in about three years now.

jimhowie2000,

Those cars are made by Classic Metal Works. The Fords are still available but I believe the Chevy Impala is out of production because of GM restrictions on HO scale products. The most modern car that CMW makes is that '78 Impala, so it was a shame to see that go. This is where CMW can fill a huge gap in the American market for HO scale vehicles. You can still find both cars at certain hobby shops that don't carry many new products.

I have some happy news.I checked the CMW site and the Impala is still listed. This car is larger than the 2.25" limit imposed by GM.

All excellent choices. I really do think we ought to take all of our suggestions and compile a Top Ten List to present to Motormax. Going 'round and 'round like this isn't going to get any of these cars produced.

How about 4 GM and 4 Mopar? Since the current set is 4 AMCs and 4 Fords.

'71-'73 Pontiac Catalina, Grandville or Bonneville, any body style; '72 Grandville hardtop preferred.

'73 GTO or LeMans, or '74 GTO/Ventura (same body as Nova). For that matter a '77 LeMans 4dr in gold would go well with the '77 TA Smokey & The Bandit car someone else has out, just add a police light bar and some decals....

Any 75-79 GM X-body (Nova, Ventura, Omega, Apollo) (note that Walthers did the Omega as a resin solid cast a few years ago, now OOP)

Any 77-81 Buick or Pontiac fullsize model. Note that a '77 Impala sedan is available in 1:87 from Mini-Metals, although theirs sell for about 3-4 times what these do.

Chrysler -

Any Aspen/Volare

'72-'74 Plymouth Satellite

'74-'77 Dodge Monaco/Plymouth various models, the midsize car that they used about 400 of up as police cars in The Dukes of Hazzard, CHiPs, and other shows - (The last year of these cars, Chrysler switched the nameplates from the full size cars down to these which had been midsize models before).

An 80's Fury/Diplomat would work also.

One thing to consider in adding new models, adding some mid-size 4-door sedans would allow reissues to include a series of police vehicles, just by adding light bars and painting them in various police color schemes.

I have to think that the cars available now in other scales - the Matador, Hornet, Mustang, Vega and Chevette will be future releases. The Walthers HO catalog that we just got already has part numbers for the Hornet and Mustang. Perhaps some of the American Graffitti cars could cross over, too, the '76 Impala certainly could (and which Graffitti had one of those in it anyhow? I don't remember any part of either movie set in 1976).

The other thing that would be nice is a late 50s/early '60s series, down the road -

'59 Pontiac, '59 Buick, '57 Olds, '60 Chrysler, '60 DeSoto, '58 or '59 Plymouth, '57 Dodge 2-door wagon, '57-8 Packard, '59 Stude Lark, '58 Rambler (the big one, not the American). A '59 Ford has been done, how about a '58 or '60; a '59 Merc, and a '57 Lincoln.

(for that matter, I know where they could have access to measure a lot of these cars).
