Doesn't want to load past the first second or two.
Of course, I'm sure the "Download for Ipod" works fine, but since I'm not one of the mindless lemmings who bought an Ipod simply because it's the hot new toy, I'm screwed.
SteveR 05-02-2006, 11:05 PM Looks like fun!
... but is it just me, or is Superman looking younger with each reincarnation?

This guy is the exact same age as was Christopher Reeve when he first portrayed Superman, but agreed - he looks younger. I couldn't open the trailer either. My Pop-Up Blocker didn't like it.
Trek Ace 05-03-2006, 01:06 AM I watched the hi def 1080P version (several times :D ) with absolutely no problems.
You may need to download the latest version of QT, if you don't already have it.
It certainly looks promising. With only less than two months until release, I can't wait for this one. I want to catch the IMAX 3D version as well!
The sequence with the jetliner looks very exciting!
Ok, after some poking around on different sites, I managed to see it.
They really captured the overall look of S1 and 2, if not every last detail. Love the "Look, up in the sky" bit at the end. :)
Hard to tell if Spacey is acting in Hackman's footsteps or if he's doing his own thing.
Is John Williams doing the score? I know it's his music in the trailer, but is it him composing and conducting again?
sbaxter 05-03-2006, 12:28 PM I'm not one of the mindless lemmings who bought an Ipod simply because it's the hot new toy, I'm screwed. :rolleyes:Well, I strongly suspect that iPod option would work in iTunes as well ... but come on, man -- not everyone who has an iPod bought it for such a silly reason. I find it a huge blessing in the car; I plug it right into the aux input on the car stereo and I never have to burn CDs anymore. I can choose to listen to music or some of the radio shows I download and would otherwise never get to hear. Because I have downloaded all this season's episodes of Lost and Alias, I was able to make tapes for a friend who wanted to catch up on both shows (I wanted to be able to discuss them with him -- tired of having to keep my mouth shut!). And I can shuttle huge files back and forth to work on a device I'm already carrying anyway.
So ha!
And to bring this back on topic in one fell swoop, I thought the trailer looked good and very interesting.

Me too -- loved it! The 1080p version fills the entire width of my 23-inch Cinema HD display.
I want to catch the IMAX 3D version as well! Yikes! I hadn't heard about that! Any details about this available?

Not to sound like a mindless lemming, but the iPod may be the greatest invention in the history of mankind. ;)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just one of those people who doesn't need to carry my entire music collection around with me 24/7.
I guess what I really hate about them isn't the technology, it's the marketing. They make you think it's "Ipod or nothing".
sbaxter 05-03-2006, 03:09 PM Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just one of those people who doesn't need to carry my entire music collection around with me 24/7.The somewhat weird thing is that I almost never use mine the way most people do -- as a next generation Walkman. I do like having my entire music collection with me, if only because I can never say this morning what I'll be in the mood to hear this afternoon. My taste is extremely eclectic.

Go back to the original link:

and look toward the bottom of the page and you will see a link for info on seeing the IMAX 3D release.
BTW, I viewed it on my 23" Cinema HD display as well. :) It's fantastic.
Can't wait until it's released on Blu-ray this fall!
John P 05-04-2006, 07:55 AM Lois looks younger than "teenage" Lois on Smallville.
And Superman IS younger than "teenage" Clark kent on Smallville! - Routh is 2 years younger than Welling! :freak:
Carson Dyle 05-04-2006, 12:52 PM I was recently introduced to Routh at a party. I'm 6'1", and the top of his head barely cleared my collarbone. Even the lovely young actress/model/whatever posing as Routh's "girlfriend" was taller than he was.
It was a little disconcerting.
dgtrekker 05-04-2006, 04:05 PM Watch the trailer a couple of times, looking forward to this incarnation, I couldn't really get into Smallville (too much teen angst I guess).
Trek Ace 05-04-2006, 05:17 PM My only real quibble in the casting of the film is with Lois. This one seems too "soft" and delicate to me.
I have always seen Lois as a tough, street-wise, aggressive go-getter (as played by the likes of Phyllis Coates and Margot Kidder. Had I been involved in casting this film, I would have gone with someone like Zooey Deschanel as Lois Lane.

She really looks the part, IMO, and has that energetic drive that I think the character should have. Brandon Routh as Clark Kent/Superman would have met his match with her.
Zorro 05-04-2006, 05:23 PM Hard to tell if Spacey is acting in Hackman's footsteps or if he's doing his own thing.

Oh, I think Spacey's doing his own thing. But then again, this is a "continuation" from the Donner version so Spacey is probably referencing Hackman just a bit. At least the balding Spacey isn't giving in to what I have always suspected was the balding Hackman's vanity as evidenced by the humorous background "wig" thing in SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE.
The IMDb lists "Original Music" by John Ottman and "Non-Original Music" by John Williams (From SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE)
Carson Dyle 05-04-2006, 06:51 PM I would have gone with someone like Zooey Deschanel as Lois Lane.
Yeah, Zooey would've done a great job. Thing is, the actress playing Lois has traditionally been younger, shorter, prettier, and more feminine than the actor playing Superman. Given Bryan Singer's choice for the title role, I'm not sure Zooey fits the bill. (I'm not even sure Kate Bosworth does).

HEH!!
JeffG 05-04-2006, 10:17 PM I gotta agree with the ipod thing. It's the best gadget since the comb! Not my intention to sound like a snob, but you really can't appreciate it till you use one. Anyway, did anyone else notice the brief shot of what looked like Marlon Brando in the crystal? Unused footage from the original? CGI Marlon (the distortion would make it more convincing)?
It looks really good though. Man, these 'superhero' films are getting better and better! Can't wait to see a bigscreen Thor or Ironman someday!

JON FAVREAU TO ADAPT, DIRECT IRON MAN FOR MARVEL
He may have played Matt Murdock’s best friend, Foggy Nelson In the film version of Daredevil, but when it comes to a film version of Marvel’s Iron Man, Jon Favreau has a much larger role than that of a supporting character.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has tapped the actor/screenwriter/director to develop and direct Iron Man, working on the script from Arthur Marcum and Matt Holloway. While many may only remember Favreau as Nelson or perhaps from his breakout role in Swingers, Favreau has moved recently, to work behind the camera, directing last year’s Zathura, executive producing the acclaimed Green Street Hooligans, and directing Elf, among others. Favreau is also attached to direct a! film version of John Carter, Warlord of Mars.
As Favreau said in an interview quoted in the trade, he’ll be looking to use CGI with the project, something he has been reluctant to do, making Iron Man his first film which will use the technology extensively. “I think that now, through motion-capture and the integration of miniatures with CGI, like in King Kong, I'm starting to be a lot more convinced by what the technology can do,” Favreau is quoted as saying. “But the idea of using CGI and relying solely on that to tell your story, those days are past. I think that integrating practical filmmaking and augmenting it with CGI is the key to making it an emotionally involved story."
If things move according to plan, Iron Man will begin production in early 2007.
The announcement of Favreau’s connection with Iron Man was only one of a handful of Marvel film developments cited by the Reporter. In addition to Iron Man:
- a sequel to Hulk is fully in the works, written by Zak (X2, X3) Penn
- Shaun of the Dead co-writer Edgar Wright is adapting Ant-Man. Wright will direct and co-write the film version with Joe Cornish.
- Captain Americais being adapted by David (Road to Perdition) Self, who is also adapting/has adapted Namor and Deathlok
- Andrew (Hoolow Man) Marlow is adapting Nick Fury.
- Mark (Poseidon) Protosevich is adapting Thor."In the comics, the stories that appealed to me most were the features called 'Tales of Asgard,' " Protosevich told the Reporter. "They were very much based on the traditional Norse myths and how the relationship between being like Thor and Loki and Thor and Odin, and how these beings manifested themselves. I don't want to give too much away, but I will say the movie will take place in the world of myth and legend but will not betray some of the thematic elements of the comics that made them so appealing, like the idea of a god growing to truly understand man."
All the films will be produced by Marvel, as part of their plan to become their own production house (for which they raised $525 million), and distribute the films through Paramount (the Hulk sequel is already set up to be distributed through Universal).
JeffG 05-05-2006, 12:18 AM Like my man from 'Amadeus' would say; "Well-there it 'tis!" Thanks for the heads up Zorro.
Trek Ace 05-05-2006, 11:20 AM If you're a movie soundtrack afficianado (like me), you'll be interested in this link chronicling John Ottman's recording of the score for Superman Returns over at Todd-AO studios last month. Lots of photos.

PhilipMarlowe 05-05-2006, 11:58 AM I dunno, it's going to a real trick to do a Thor movie without causing the audience to giggle, remember Adventures in Babysitting?
Dave Hussey 05-05-2006, 12:11 PM Carson - Yup, I always imagined old Supes as a 6'3 or so fella.
And I saw that comment about the chick "posing" as his girlfriend. Care to elaborate?

Carson Dyle 05-05-2006, 12:19 PM Let's just say Routh and Bryan Singer are very close friends. ;)

I didn't catch that reference before. I think I do, now.
Carson Dyle 05-05-2006, 06:48 PM Hey, I have no problem with a gay actor playing Superman as long as the actor in question can convince me Supes has the hots for Lois Lane. I do wish Routh wasn't so young and pretty looking, but it's unfair to judge his performance based on the trailer.
We'll find out soon enough what the Man of Steel is really made of.
Trek Ace 05-05-2006, 07:57 PM Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Zorro 05-05-2006, 09:22 PM Hmmm. A gay director. A gay Supes. A gay Luthor. Hmmm.
Bruce Bishop 05-05-2006, 10:36 PM It won't play for me either. Something about a 'bad movie atom' being found in the movie QT was trying to play. I really hate Quicktime for all the various crap it pulls oh so frequently. I actually want to like it, but it seems to me to almost always have problems when I try to use it.
Zorro 05-06-2006, 02:24 AM That "bad movie atom" was put there by Mr. Mxyzptlk.

I don't wanna believe it BUT if the costuming AND hair departments were fudged with and subsequently packed with alternativists then youse guyz are definitely right .. she's a liberal Hollywood conspiracy!
Damn that slick Willie!!

Senator Rick Sanitorium will have something to say about this. Krypto ain't in it, is he?
Carson Dyle 05-17-2006, 05:46 PM Swear to God, the pic below is of an actual bubblegum card. Really, I'm not making this up! :p
Leno and Letterman are gonna have a field day.
Chuck_P.R. 05-18-2006, 01:10 AM I was a bit thrown by the single mom probably impregnated by Superman thread...
I sincerely hope that with that new wrinkle they won't keep up the nonsense of Lois not noticing Clark is same guy who impregnated her just wearing glasses.
Geez, just think of how many paternity suits guys could get out of if that worked!!!
Yo Homeboy 05-18-2006, 04:28 PM I saw the preview at the theater this past weekend. It was nice, and appropriate in my opinion, to use the John Williams score from the Reeve film for this preview. I hope they will use it in this film, or at least a version of it. That music has become a part of American culture and immediately is recognizable with Superman. It looks like it will be a good movie. Haven't seen much of the Man of Steel on film for many years. With today's quality of CGI this is sure to be a very good film from a visual standpoint anyway. Lots of excitement and flying sequences from perspectives we've never seen before. Hopefully it will create a renewed interest in Superman like what Burton's film did for Batman and Raimi's film did for Spiderman. Sure to entertain.
