I have a question...

I was given a go-kart frame and motor. The motor is a 3.5 B & S that was running fine about a year ago. I finally got around to painting the frame and started the reassemble. Well the motor now won't start. I can pour fuelinto the carb and it will run fine then die. I pulled the carb and put in a kit because the gasket on the side of the carb with the spring was very old. After putting it back together it still won't start without adding gas. I am planning to boil the carb tomorrow and see if that helps. I don't see how to replace the brass fitting in the carb. I blew out the carb with air and everything seemed fine but I did not hear any air comming out when i blew it in it.

Also, does anyone have a carb linkage diagram so i can see if it hooked up wrong? The motor was off a tiller (was told) so the linkage is different. The cart had a 5hp on it amd i have it just it also would not crank.

Any help would be great!

thanks.

Make sure the pickup tubes are not clogged at the bottom (if it has that foam stuff in the tank, this will degrade over time and do it) I'd soak the carb torn apart in a bath type carb cleaner overnight, then blow it out. Can't help you with the linkage though....

make sure you fill the gas tank to the top so it will prim the carb the first time.

BOY it is amazing what 10.88 dollars worth of carb cleaner, 1 hour, and some new gas will do for a motor!!1

Thanks for the tips.

Lucky that I figured out the linkage and the boys are loving it. I see a future kart track to be built in the back yard.
