Has anyone heard any news about the Fighting Machine maquette from Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds that Dark Horse was set to release in late 2005?

Is this thing dead? I hope not, I really want one.

I was asking the very same thing last Friday...

I hope this piece sees the light of day. I've admired this Mike Trim design since it first appeared on the album cover.

Same here, Barry.
Btw, here's Mike Trim's new website, if you're interested:

Thanks for that, Anthony.

I've been following the progress of Mike's forthcoming new book on your other passion, the Eagles board. I'm a mad 1999 Eagle fan too.

I'm looking forward to the book so much. I was a great fan of Derek Meddings and Mike's design work from the Anderson shows. Those guys were way ahead of their time and the models they created stand the test of time today.

If only the Eurofighter looked more like an Angel they would have sold more :)

A "maquette" is French! ;)

A maquette strictly speaking is a sculptor's study model. Kind of like a sketch where you work out all the shapes and forms but not necessarily featuring the final, exacting detail of a finished sculpt.

In the film industry these 3-D sketches are used to illustrate characters, and ships and sets to get approvals and sign offs from a director to commit to the final sculpture.

Presumably this War of the Worlds maquette was sculpted to work out all some details before Jeff Wayne committed to the final computer modeling of these wonderful behemoths.

Glad to hear you're looking forward to the book! I'm busy proofing the final layout right now, then it goes back to the publisher for corrections and off to the printer. Keep checking Mike's website, as a lot of magazines are running articles and interviews with him this Summer in conjunction with the book's release. Miketrimart.com will be updated with info on all of them as they appear.

I have the feeling the model has been canned.

Still, I'm working on getting another manufacturer to do it. And cheaper! :)

What do you think, Barry - would MR be interested? I can point you towards the licensing if so.

I'm sure that that Product Enterprise (www.productenterprise.com/anderson.html) would be the ideal candidate for a diecast replica of the Fighting Machine.

What with the runaway success of their Eagle Transporter replica line (which I'm sure you can testify to! ;)), they have the best chance. A replica FM from MR, whilst they are more than capable, would be stupidly expensive for the average collector(?).

I've asked someone close to the heart of PE to flag it up to the boss for consideration!

We live in hope. :)

Drop me a line if there are probabilities!
I tried to get DH interested in having Mike do a limited certificate and signed portfolio, but they weren't interested enough to reply.
Eagle, PE could do a die cast of the Fighting Machine while MR did a larger maquette - if that's the way things eventually played out...
