View Full Version : Flea market find
eyecandy 04-23-2006, 04:12 PM I dont post on this side of the world too often, I usually only hang around the diecast boards, but I like slots too. Anywho, I just wanted to share a piece of good luck I had last week. I've been wanting to get a base track as most of mine has gotten lost or broken in moves, etc. I went to the flea market after Johnny Lightning cars, and ended up getting a Tyco stock car 500 slot car track. it was older, I figured it might have broken/missing pieces and figured the cars werent in it, especially cause it was only $10. Got it home, found there was enough track to build the track pictured plus a bunch, a bunch of extra gaurd rails, the little side flags to put on the gaurd rails, the 2 cars it came with plus 2 other cars, 2 transformers, lap counter and all the riser supports. I thought it was a pretty good deal, thought it was even better when I got it all opened. Works great, now I just need to keep accumulating more track pieces to add on to make my mega track I have planned.
roadrner 04-23-2006, 05:50 PM Congrats on your find! Not bad at all, even if it is TYCO. :) See you on the chat board this week!  rr

RacerDave 04-23-2006, 09:16 PM Good score. Sounds like you got a great deal.
sethndaddy 04-23-2006, 09:26 PM my times coming, it's been a long while since I struck a good find.
I love these "look what I found" threads, its cool to see theres still people out there willing to sell their junky little plastic cars off at a good price, instead of everyone thinking every slot car is worth gold because of a few fleabay auctions.
the last train show I was at, both guys who had slot cars had common tyco or afx cars for 35.00 each (those tyco jeeps, yellow/black, red/blue,and the afx was the dime a dozen porsche/ferrari's)
I have never ever found any vintage slot cars any other place than ebay or a show.....
Found a couple year old LifeLike set at a garage sale once, but that was it.
Actually it was a monumental find because it did get me back into slots about 15-18 years ago, but aside from that moment of inspiration it was a low value find.
I can't believe people actually find a huge box of vintage toys, or old GI Joes loaded with all the rare stuff, or a 59 Les Paul or a box of vintage slots at rumage sales any more. Everyone associated with the sale must be living under a rock not to scope in on the decent goods and procure them for personal benefit.
Pomfish 04-25-2006, 03:32 PM The Slot Gods finally shown down on Me last wednesday at a Flea market.
I scored a pair of the Tyco Hustler cars, the Chapparal 2G "Lil Duece" and the Companion car to the set, the #5 McLaren M8F.
Both cars look like that ran about 5 laps judging by the minimal wear on the shoes. The track was with them as well, but I told the guy to chuck it out. I need more Tyco track like a whole in the head.
Anyway, got them for $8. And no, I didn't try to chisel the guy down to $5 :)
That was probably the first good score at that flea in 5 years. I usually find junk or Overpriced decent stuff.
I feel like making a TShirt that Says "I don't Care what you think you saw them sell for on Ebay, This isn't Ebay!"
Anyway, it felt great to get a good deal, they are going in the collection.
Thanks,
Keith
