I use "easy off" oven cleaner to remove paint.. It doesn't hurt the plastic and it really does a good job. I heard lighter fluid is also goods but I haven;t tried it. Some guys use Pine sol... but that can take a week to do the trick

Easy Lift Off is very good. It can be found at hobby stores and some art supply places.

Spic-n-Span...
Yeah, what Scott said. Road Race Replicas' FAQ page has some info on this. This is the Spic-N-Span before and after success story picture I post anytime someone asks... these guys sat in it for a day or two...

On the El camino, did you yank the Chrome off before dipping it?

Actually, no... if you look real close at the before pic, there's flat black paint on the grille and headlights. I was hoping to get it off. I did, but the chrome pretty much came off with it. Not sure if it was the S n S or the scrubbing with the toothbrush, but either way, the next car I stripped that had chrome, I took it off. I'll attach pictures. The windows can stay, the SnS won't hurt them and will actually take paint off them. The RRR site where I got the idea says that the SnS won't take off Aurora's original detail paint, but if you do a lot of heavy toothbrush scrubbing, the brush will wear the paint away, so I think the idea is to let the car soak longer and do less scrubbing. The Mako Shark in these pics still has the Aurora silver paint in the grooves of the hood vents, but it's worn off the high edges from scrubbing. I shoulda been more patient and just let it soak another day...

hey yeah, ya think? :D
I'm just glad that in retrospect, it seems that my brush-painting skills went from model kits to diecast and skipped over slots. I still have a couple of badly spray-painted AFXs from my youth, but apparently I never felt the need to attack Aurora or Tyco plastic with a paintbrush...
