Here's what's happening:
I've decided that I'm going to finish sorting & documenting all of my collection, which will probably take me a while yet. I'm thinking that I'll probably pull a handfull of runners out to keep, along with a few of my favorite "special" cars.
Then I'm probably going to run the whole collection in one big Epay auction, minus the handfull of keepers. There's going to be around 400 cars. I'm thinking of starting the bidding maybe around $4000.
I realize that many or the common Tycos, LLs, JLs ect. only go for about $5-$10 each, give or take. However, there are several cool cars that might sell for more than that. A few of them would probably sell for a lot more. There are several brand new, never used loose cars. Also, there are a handfull of brand new, still in the package cars. There are also some spare parts & chassis that will be included. If the auction isn't successful, I might organize a few smaller lots and see how that goes. I'm not going to sell any of the nicer pieces at bargain prices though.
I haven't really lost interest in the hobby & I don't need the money badly. I AM pretty busy with my new job, getting my kids finished with high school, taking care of my house, ect...I'll probably also be getting a divorce in the not too distant future. There's another reason to not own too much stuff eh?
These boxes of slotcars just aren't really doing me any good, sitting here, collecting dust. I would like to sell most of them off and apply the money towards a more active and fun hobby. If I can, that would be great. The added cash would put me on the fast track to getting either the motorcycle of my dreams, which I've already been saving for....or a nicer newer 1:1 car or pickup, in the event that my old car needs a major repair that's more than it's worth.
I appreciate the advice that a few of you guys have given me. I'm not getting totally out of the hobby. I still think slot cars are really cool. I'm just trying to pull a few irons out of the fire. I figure that if I thin the herd enough, it will not only help me reach my goals quicker, but it will be fun to kinda start over and resume collecting later without feeling stupid because I have so many little cars already.
