My parents are moving so we went over and cleaned out the attic.Yes I screamed when I found my old race set, all parts in the box except the power
supply (ordered a replacement today). It's an Aurora american classic set, 1965.
The manual says 1/32nd scale AJET with a price of $39.95 for the figure 8 I have, and $49.95 for the dual 8 which would have been even cooler.

I plan on setting up a nice area in the basement for slot car track and am wondering if I should keep this in the box for value and buy another set to play
with (funds are low). Any idea on value on this set? I have been looking around a bit but still have some questions. I don't seem to be able to find items for AJET sets, what is the diference between the A and T jet sets? Would like to add some track but I'm not sure what fits with my set. There is alist of 8 cars that go with this set, I have a Mustang and A GTO and would like to get my hands on the other 6 cars. Would any newer cars work on this track so I don't have to do any more damage to the original cars?

Any thoughts or ideas you might have would be appreciated
Thanks, figmentt

Aurora 1/32 car (ajets) are valueable by themselves, so a complete set would qualify as a prize.

Tjets are around HO scale, much smaller than your cars, and thus, an HO set would take much less room, and HO is less expensive to setup and run.

Keep your large Aurora set nice and leave it in a safe place. Go and get the Tomy 4-lane set, which will give near enough track to make a 3'x 4' layout.

Do a search on e-bay for 'jl slot' and you'll see lots of remakes of vintage Aurora and Afx cars, which are built, and run the same. And some nice cheap ones can be had.

Hey, I have a book called "Greenberg's Guide to Aurora Slot Cars" by Thomas Graham that has a bunch of information on A-Jets. After Aurora became hugely successful in HO cars with their Thunderjets, they tried to break into 1/32 with the A-Jet, which used a motor very similar to an oversized Tjet motor. It seems the design was sound enough from a reliability standpoint, but the motor couldn't compete with the can motors in other 1/32 cars, so commercially, they didn't sell well. This makes them pretty rare... sounds like dlw's advice is good; put the set away and keep it in nice shape. (However, if it was me, I wouldn't be able to resist setting it up and running it once in a while...)

If you like the size of these cars, there are a few companies--Scalextric, Carrera and Artin come to mind--that currently make 1/32 sets. Your old cars will run on these... but they're kinda expensive and take up lots of room. If you like the HO scale idea (these cars are pretty close in size to Matchbox/Hot Wheels) look for Tomy and Johnny Lightning stuff like dlw said... that's what we're all doing now... :D

Thanks for the info on my set. I'm going to stick with the 1/32 size since it just looks right to me and it's what I started with. I have plenty of room to set up so that's not a concern. It will be a slow process because of money but I will get this set up and running before I store it away. That should keep me satisfied untill I can afford to buy another set and it will give me time to investigate exactly what I want to do.

Going the 1/32 route, huh? I gotta admit I just recently picked up an old Eldon 1/32 set and it has me intrigued... I'm already looking into getting more.

When you start researching new 1/32, be sure to take a close look at Artin. They're significantly cheaper than some of the other names, and if you read what people on messageboards and such have to say, they're very competitive with the more expensive brands...

Aurora made some nice 1/32 scale cars in the sixties. They ran very smooth and are really great to drive. As others stated their perfromance was not up to the really fast casr or home builts but for home use are excellent!

For parts try Electric Dreams and/or Professor Motor. I'm sure you'll need replacement tires, the slip on tires available today for older car like this are really great!

You'll need to get original Aurora 1/32 scale track but be careful as they made two different styles that do NOT connect together. A post on slotblog or some of the other sites asking for some of this vintage track may help your cause.

The Artin 1/32 sets are a good value and their new stock car are great fun at $22 each.

For economical 1/32 scale racing ideas check out www.HomeRacingWorld.com
But if you want us to talk you into HO racing we'd be gald to help.

I did not stay in the dark for long and saw the light. Flame Thrower light that is :). However 1/43rd pack a lot punch fro you dollar. For inexpensive 1/32nd track go with ARTIN from Slot Car World

Starting at $50, man this could get expensive. I also see there is a baracuda for sale that is listed in my manual. At least I have a shot at getting some additional cars for the set when the money is available.

Oh, you can get newer cars cheaper than that. I just wanted to give you an idea why you should keep your old stuff in nice shape...
