left turner 04-07-2006, 10:04 AM i read a artical on how to paint the carbon fiber design. you take the rubber pads wiith the square holes in it that comes in rolls like you put in the bottom of drawers, lay it inside then spray your black, remove it then spray your silver. works real good.

The CF is all paint. Jody uses Tool Box matting.
savage 14 05-25-2006, 05:19 PM how dose he get it not to bleed do you know??
Tornado_Racing 05-25-2006, 06:07 PM how dose he get it not to bleed do you know??

hacksaw 05-25-2006, 09:44 PM He uses bandaids to stop the bleeding!!!!!!!LOL Hacksaw
Billy W 05-25-2006, 11:55 PM LOL..Hacksaw you kill me....lol
Billy
WarrenS 05-26-2006, 01:34 AM Craftsman drawer liner usually has enough static in it to cling on by itself or you can lightly mist it with a spary adhesive.
It doesn't bleed because you just need to lay a fine mist down to get the pattern. You don't need to sray it like it was a solid color.
savage 14 05-26-2006, 06:58 PM WarrenS- so you just spray a light spray of black and then silver over the light spray of black?
hacksaw- way to take it literaly lol
kropy 05-26-2006, 08:45 PM WarrenS- so you just spray a light spray of black and then silver over the light spray of black?

No, Put the liner where you want your Carbon Fiber, Juat as Warren said the liner will have static to hold it in place or if want you can always heat it up a little with a hair dryier, Lightly spray your first color (let's just say silver) let it dry & take the liner out, Now you can spray your black, It's as easy as that.
savage 14 05-26-2006, 09:18 PM what is a good color to use for the gray/silver
kropy 05-26-2006, 09:28 PM I like to mix Pearl Black, Silver, & reg Black to get the right color, Now this mixture is gonna be a little thick so your gonna have to thin it down, The best thing that I have found to thin waterbased paint down is Windex, And again your gonna have to keep adding the Windex until you get the right consistancy.
Tornado_Racing 05-31-2006, 07:17 AM Here are a few more pics of some of Jody's work.

http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/8296/ebaypics0184wj.jpg
WarrenS 05-31-2006, 11:19 AM You can also use different colors to get different effect. The camera had a hard time picking it up but that center panel is comp orange with red faded on the edges and as the CF pattern.

Racin'Jason 8 08-03-2006, 08:18 PM Jody - what do you use for masking to get such crisp lines and consistency...especially on manufacturer's logos. Do you cut a vinyl mask on a cutter or is it freehand with a liquid mask - or neither? I enjoy painting but do not know how to get such results and it can be frustrating to spend such a great deal of time only to produce blemishes. All of your work in this thread set the bar for R/C airbrushing - great skills!
Jason
Tornado_Racing 08-03-2006, 08:28 PM Yeah, Jody "FREE HANDS" that EA logo! lol
All of the sponsor decals and numbers are cut out of vinyl mask. His flame/tribal designs, carbon fiber, and headlights are all done by hand.
In the past Jody has used DR. Grafix and Billy Weeks for his masking needs, but has now branched off on his own. All vinyl masks are now done "In House". Masks can now be measured and cut to fit each body.
Jody now has outlined window masks for the Protoform Monte Carlo, Protoform Charger, McAllister Silverado, and Windtunnel HDX with more to follow in the future. The detailed window masks have an 1/8" outline, front/rear windshield straps, and front windshield clips. Adding to the detail, window/trim rivets have also been added. All of this in a precut mask that replaces the included stock window mask.
Phillip's Spec Truck has the Silverado trim and the Black 3 has the Monte Carlo Trim (all pictured above). HDX and Charger pics will be soon to follow.
