How bout getting the dirty/splochy rust look, those ones look real good you guys do rlyoung1 03-30-2006, 05:47 PM okay no secrets needed lol, well maybe just one what do you use to get the shiny luster off without removing all the paint? How bout getting the dirty/splochy rust look, those ones look real good you guys do The best spray I have found to dull the finish is Testors Dullcote. It is a little pricey though since it comes in such a small can. Right now I'm just using a clear flat matte finish spray. Many times I will just repaint a car with flat paint. There are a few different rust products on the market. The one I use is made by Sophisticated Finishes. flyin'68bird 03-30-2006, 09:00 PM okay no secrets needed lol, well maybe just one what do you use to get the shiny luster off without removing all the paint? How bout getting the dirty/splochy rust look, those ones look real good you guys do Well I'm not nearly as good as rlyoung, but on mine I just used fine grit sandpaper and wet sanded the parts I wanted to dull(like the roof). I used Testor's metallic copper paint and the end of my brush to dab on the paint to imitate rust. Now, that dirty, sat in a field for ten years look...I'm still trying to figure that out. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/sethbergen/CAM_0093.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v133/sethbergen/CAM_0089.jpg gunn 03-30-2006, 10:44 PM i'll say it one more time....www.micromark.com order the free book..go to page 72..called rust all... 4 bottles ...$19.95 may be on sale now for less calll1-800-225-1066 ORDER THE FREE BOOK............................YOU WILL LOVE IT..!!!! stupidsquirrels 03-31-2006, 12:33 AM I use Model Master 'rust' paint, 1 oz. glass jar. Works great, sometimes I'll play with it, mixing 3to1, with flat black,or white, or red, depends on the base color I'm working and how obvious I want the effect to be. As an extra added bonus, the Testors brush cleaner I use makes a great 'rust wash' after awhile. Just spread it with a wet brush, let dry, repeat as needed until you've achieved the effect you're looking for. Be careful as it may remove tampos and WILL screw up any other paint you may have applied. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/stupidsquirrels/Poorthing1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/stupidsquirrels/ebay016.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/stupidsquirrels/ebay017.jpg carnut2256 04-01-2006, 07:57 PM Squirrel, great job on the rusty ol' relic! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/stupidsquirrels/ebay016.jpg And he did a great job on my PIP BWF '58 Belvedere as well! Ricky2400 04-01-2006, 08:13 PM Look at this PIP Mustang.... Now, I've dismantled and stripped the paint AFTER this pic was shot. I am in need of suggestion: Multiple-choice--which paint/stripe combo should I use.... A) White w/Blue Stripes B) Blue w/White Stripes C) Red w/White Stripeshttp://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y139/Ricky2400/DSCF0001.jpg D) Black w/Gold Stripes E) White w/Gold Stripes F) None of the above--and just keep it as a "junker" vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
