I have a vision peak charger. 2100mah tenergy nicd batt off ebay. The first time charged was fine. Now it charges forever withot getting much juice. Battery get a lil hot and then cools down while charger says its still going. I can leave the batt on for 2 hours and its weak. I only get like 2 min of run time or less. Think my charger is bad?

i thought so... but it should charge fine? I think my chargers bad. Because ill leave it one there for 10 min and it gets hot. After like 15-20 min it cools down fast. And then when I go to use it I can only run for less then 2 min. THANKS

What amp setting are you charging at ? How are you discharging the pack after you run it? How your other batteries charge? do you equalize the pack? Nicads can be touchy If you can get an voltmeter see what the actual amp load is during charging at the battery.
check the volts of the pack 7.2 to 8.0 Make sure the charger is set correctly . Sounds like false peaking due to memory

yea you hit it.... false peaking! charges for 15-20 and says its full. Sometimes around 5 min of charging say its full. I only get 1 min or less seriously of run time. They all charge the same. i charge at 4amp. Equalize? I dont discharge them because I cant/dont know how to. I need some help thats all I know. Im going to try the volt meter thingy. THANKS
____________
also that was the first time the charger has been used in two years. just got back into rc.

First How old are the batteries. Set the voltmeter to D.C. amps .You can get a cheap digital one at Radio Shack Or Lowes. If you get on at the shack have them show you where the setting for D.C. volts and amps. Tell them what you are doing and the should be able to help. You have to see if your getting 4 amps to the battery. Then you need to discarge them on a discharger . You need to get the cells down low but not to low or the cells will reverse. An equalizer brings each cell individuallyto a specific voltage. The dischargers are easy to use hook them up and hit the button But THEY ARE HOT LOOK OUT!!!. you may have to do this a couple of times to get the memory wiped out. I hope you didn't pay to much for the batteries. SMC has some killer batteries on sale on line. Good luck.

Here are some discargers and Equalizers. The equalizers don't work on stick packsthough.
