I have a Briggs and Stratton Spirit lawnmower and I'm currently rebuilding it.

I've run into a little snag.

I am trying to remove the part that the blade attaches to (not sure what its called) , It's so I can remove the crankcase cover and replace the gasket, But I can't seem to get it loose.

Is there some type of special tool I should be using or is it just because it's a little rusted and it's stuck on there really good.

Blade adapter. Try to heat it up, but not too much as to mess up the lower oil seal for the crank, but you might want to replace that one as well. And some have used wax on it when its hot, it melts down and you can knock it off, or you just may have to have a shop pull it off.

I just want to check and make sure. Are you talking about the piece that is about 3" and is round on the shaft. (not on the flywheel side but the side with the blade)

Does this piece turn counterclockwise to remove it? Or does it just slip off when heated?

Its just keyed on there. You might have to hit it a few times to get it off.

Got it off finally.

Now I'm on with the rebuild.
