Mysterious Island with Patrick Stewart as Nemo (the captain, not the fish) is out on DVD. Anyone seen it? I've read a few online reviews that were not encouraging.

View Full Version : Mysterious Island with Patrick Stewart Dave Hussey 03-29-2006, 11:29 AM Mysterious Island with Patrick Stewart as Nemo (the captain, not the fish) is out on DVD. Anyone seen it? Jim PhilipMarlowe 03-29-2006, 12:51 PM It's pretty bad with some real low-rent CGI effects, they show it on the Hallmark Channel fairly often for free. Not Stewart's finest hour by a long shot. Lloyd Collins 03-29-2006, 01:56 PM Never heard of it. Nothing like the original. scotpens 03-30-2006, 02:59 AM I've never seen that version of Mysterious Island, but it's hard to imagine it being worse than that overblown TV remake of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea with Michael Caine. Of course, the 1961 version with Herbert Lom as Nemo is one of my favorites, even though the real stars were Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion creatures and Bernard Herrmann's music. Dave Hussey 03-30-2006, 09:46 AM I'm figuring it may be worth the rental charge, if only to get a better look at the really clunky looking Nautilus that I saw on one web review that is clearly inspired by the classic Harper Goff design. Huzz big-dog 03-30-2006, 11:11 AM I wrote a brief review on the DVD gits thread. The effects were ALMOST as good as those in the Pendragon WOTW. The Nautilus is cool, acting is good. Otherwise. Go with the original. Seaview 03-30-2006, 12:53 PM I have to admit that I haven't seen the new Patrick Stewart re-make, but as much as I like the Ray Harryhausen version, the original Jules Verne story was better; probably because it's one of the first full novels that I read as an 11-year-old in elementary school, and was absolutely spellbound by it. :) big-dog 03-30-2006, 06:14 PM I've never read the book, though I've read quite a bit of Verne. The remake has quite a different story, anyone know if it's closer to the book? MODELGUY 04-01-2006, 12:24 AM If you were me and saw it at a friend's house from his digital projector on a 4x6 ft screen,it was almost like being on the island itself. The effects were fair, but the actors and above all the scenery were great. AWESOME PRINT as well, in a nut shell, Not bad at all. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
