Hi guys,
Hope you can answer a couple questions. I'm not getting any charge from my stator on my 18 hp briggs model 422400. I put a voltmeter on the two wires that comes from the stator and it shows nothing, no ac or dc volts reading at fast idle with one lead on one of the wires and the other with the lead on the other wire. Also, nothing with one lead on a single wire and the other on ground. The voltmeter is auto, so it will so either ac or dc.
I checked ohms on the stator and it's 0. Am I correctly checking that or not?
thanks

Red Wire With Bump In It Which Is The Diode Encased In Wire, Is The Wire To Check, From There To Ground, should Show Voltage,dc, Or Shade Tree Method Connect Wire To Wire With Diode Andtouch To Engine, If Sparks, Then Its Charging.

Mitchell,
You told me to look for the diode in my 16 hp engine and it kept blowing fuses. But I can't find it anywhere, would it be near the engine or somewhere on the tractor. (it's a MTD 600 series) I'm sure this is the problem, and want to get it fixed cuz I got some yard work to do and believe me, I don't want to do it by hand!!

BSMAN LOOK near starter if single cylinder, there will be two wires coming from underneath flywheel cover, down by starter, one will have about an inch long bump in the wire thats the diode, usually these two wires join into a single connector.
HOWEVER if you have a twin cylinder the diode will be near front of engine by the one barrel carb.
