Jim Workman 03-26-2006, 10:28 AM Yes it is true. Construction of a banked oval track at Platinum Hobbies is currently under construction. The track will have 25 deg. banking all the way around. Don't worry about the heat this summer, come in and race in air conditioned comfort. More details later. Platinum Hobbies is located just east of Columbus on Interstate 70, off of Brice Road, go south on Brice, turn right onto Scarborough Blvd., turn left at the White Castle, park in the Cinema parking lot. Thanks, Jim
Kenwood 03-26-2006, 04:22 PM Jim...I saw you had some lumber there yesterday...he he he...cant wait...get it done...

When I was in there yesterday>>>Before plowing into your car>>Sorry again>> there was just a big pile of lumber...No assembly yet...
Jim Workman 03-26-2006, 08:01 PM Update: Eight braces are are completed. Vince thought that he had some help set up for today, but no one showed. Chris Bruch and I have set up a jig to aid in the brace manufacturing. Hopefully others will line up to help out. That would certainly speed things up. More later, Jim. :hat:
Kenwood 03-26-2006, 09:20 PM Jim when are you guys doing the construction??? Depending on when you guys are working I could come up and help out depending on my workload.. Im pretty good with woodworking..

Jim Workman 03-31-2006, 01:25 AM Update: The guys at Platinum Hobbies have really been working hard tonite! We have the corner skeltons finished. We will hit it again tomorrow on the straightaways. Looks like 25 deg. on the corners and going to 18 deg. in the straights. This will make the drivers stand much more accessible. More later. Jim :dude:
erock1331 03-31-2006, 10:33 AM Jim
good thing you went with 18 in the straights, i was afraid if i turnmarshalled with the 25 deg i wouldnt be able to see outside the track, lol
erock1331 03-31-2006, 12:10 PM Jim

Jim, Give me a call at home.
Jim Workman 03-31-2006, 12:28 PM Hey Eric, Good to hear from ya. Lanes will be 12 foot wide. We are still playing with the final dimensions. Right now 63 feet x 45 feet. infield, 23 feet, again we are playing with dimensions. We are going to set up the skeleton this weekend to get a better ide'r ( Paul Sr.). Looking for a drive line of 150 feet or better, with sweeping curves. Should be brutily FAST!!!!
More updates later. Jim :dude:

Raptor_MS 04-03-2006, 10:41 PM When you get to the carpet install, if you need help, feel free to contact me.
What are you using for patching compound to smooth out the joints?
Kenny@RAPTOR
Jim Workman 04-04-2006, 09:29 PM Hey racefan3, Yes this track will be open year round. Through the summer we will probably race on Friday nites. Check for updates on www.platinumhobbies.com.
Kenny, we haven't gotten that far yet. What do you suggest. Thanks for the interest. Jim :dude:
Raptor_MS 04-04-2006, 11:08 PM When you get to the compound, make sure and use the latex additive to mix with. Cost alittle more, but you will be glad you did later on. I would need to see pictures of your framing to make the call......
Kenny

erock1331 04-06-2006, 05:40 PM Looks sweet !!
Are they gonna remove that beam in the infield ?
Jim Workman 04-06-2006, 06:01 PM No cannot remove the beam, it is a structural issue. We don't think that it will be a factor. Jim :dude:
erock1331 04-06-2006, 06:32 PM Jim
Until Baldwin's spektrum flakes and he hits it squar in the center, hehe
had to throw a baldwinism in there.
sorry doug
was that a prayer to the r/c god? Just kidding. I think they are going to try and take the wood off of the outside of it though, last I heard, to try and make it narrower and HARDER when WE hit it.
erock1331 04-07-2006, 04:22 PM chris just wrap some soft rubber or foam around it to absorb the impacts and the beam shouldnt be an issue
rccarpy 04-07-2006, 08:52 PM Here is some pics I took today.

James605 04-23-2006, 05:55 PM Would anyone be ava. to come and work on the track this week? We need as many hands as we can to help make sure its as smooth as glass. Anyone??
ohiorcracer 04-23-2006, 08:48 PM I was down at the track for about 4 hours today and we changed it dramatically, we took the original track from 25 degrees in the corners to 18 degrees all the way around. It is gonna be alot smoother and your head wont be in the ceiling when racing lol :) . I will have more pics on wednesday night Thanks Keviin
