Price is now 20-bucks . . .

Be aware that Multipro Dremel versus older [example, 380] and newer [400] Dremel tools ain't the same beast

For example, 380 Dremel has a PM motor, as does the 400 series.

Multipro uses a wire wound magnet motor.

Appears 2851 has body shell of the Multipro, black versus gray.

Not a huge deal, per se, but the PM motor has more torque and runs much more smoothly, especially at slower speeds. Found the PM versions quieter, running with less vibrations.

Having said that since 2851 is a two speed device. If you buy one, get a light dimmer and 0 - Max control cheaply. Dimmers handle 600 watts. Cheap way to get infinite control. Use dimmers for most hobby tools, great means to attain great control for ten-bucks or so.

BTW, many would and will not note the difference. If you run your Dremel at medium lower, medium and high speeds, you probably would not recognize the difference.

For 20-bucks, wire or PM motor, that's a great deal, along with 32 accessories . . . was originally priced at 50-bucks.

Hi

how did you get a $20 price? I went to RadioShack last night (Thursday 3/30) and was charged the $29 price. How do I get my nine bucks back?

Thanks
Mike

That's what our local RS is charging. Store to store, who knows . . .

Dang! - My RS is locally owned, and doesn't carry Dremel items - hasn't for years. This deal may be a company operated store item/sale?

radioshack.com lists the Dremel as $19.97, a discontinued model, in store only, not available on-line. Use the "findit in a store" button then print it out to get the $19.97 if'n the store gives you lip on the price. Me? I don't need one, I have a variable speed Riobi I'm happy with.

i found a better deal at Target. $25 for a durabuilt(?) rotary tool. this tool is infinitiely variable, the RS tool has only 2 speeds. the durabuilt unit is a bit larger, and is funky in that there is an on/off switch and then a sliding switch on another part of the tool for varying the speed. The real clincher for me was the durabuilt comes with a stand to mount on your work bench, and an 2-3 foot flexible extension driveline that lets me reach about any part of my workbench without taking the tool off the stand. i am very happy with it. i have an infinitely variable dremel i still use permanently set up in a different part of my garage/play area.
