View Full Version : Trouble on Brokeback Mountain? PhilipMarlowe 03-25-2006, 12:12 AM Poor Randy Quaid :freak: http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200603/s1600714.htm John P 03-25-2006, 02:29 PM I bet whatever they paid him, it was a lot more than I make for the same amount of time. spe130 03-25-2006, 02:54 PM Same here. But if someone lied to me so I'd work cheaper than my otherwise going rate, I think I'd be pretty ticked off. veedubb67 03-25-2006, 03:12 PM "Mr Quaid says he agreed to appear in Brokeback Mountain for a nominal sum, rather than his customary seven-figure fee plus a percentage of the box office gross, because the film-makers convinced him it was a low-budget picture with no commercial potential. " Four words I'll never hear in my lifetime, "customary seven-figure fee". Poor guy. lisfan 03-25-2006, 04:10 PM looks like they tried to stick it up randy's #%^#$^*%$&^ El Gato 03-26-2006, 06:30 PM Maybe if I slammed my fingers on a drawer I'd be able to shed a tear for him. José ClubTepes 03-26-2006, 06:34 PM For those of you bashing Quaid and his 'normal' salary, I've got to say its not about the money. Its about the point. As someone whos been lied to by a few producers myself, it really pi$$es you off. Yeah sure the guy makes more than any of us. But so what. Should he just sit back and let the producers dishonesty be rewarded? I don't think so. So, more power to Quaid. But this may hurt him a little as being a 'trouble maker' which isn't fair. One wants very badly to 'trust' in this business and to take someone at their word. Sadley here is another case where you can't do that. What suprises me in this case, is whether or not Quaid had provisions written into his contract to cover him if this thing were to make more than 'X' amount of money (which it seems as though he hadn't) If he didn't, then he should have. PhilipMarlowe 03-26-2006, 07:02 PM Well, it's not like Ang Lee's other movies have been low budget bombs. "Cept for The Hulk of course. F91 03-26-2006, 07:22 PM DUDE!!!!! Hulk was great!! El Gato 03-26-2006, 11:16 PM I don't know. How many people would've guessed that an indie movie about gay cowboys would've had the box office impact that it has? If someone had duped Quaid into using his land for a Bruce Willis blockbuster, that's one thing... José Griffworks 03-27-2006, 01:06 AM Dude's entitled to fair pay by whatever his wage standard is. That'd be like being a mechanic and a dealership hires you, telling you that they only sell and repair "a few cars a day" so can only pay you a little above minimum wage, but when you get to work you're turning 30 to 40 cars a day - and they're still charging standard fee's to their customers. Mis-representation is still mis-representation. Griffworks 03-27-2006, 01:09 AM And yeah! Hulk was great! Trek Ace 03-27-2006, 06:21 AM Sounds like Randy got reamed. ClubTepes 03-27-2006, 07:44 AM Sounds like Randy got reamed. :freak:  PhilipMarlowe 03-27-2006, 08:47 AM Sounds like Randy got reamed. He should have had his agent taking better care of his back end<rimshot> John O 03-27-2006, 12:28 PM As someone whos been lied to by a few producers myself, it really pi$$es you off. Yeah sure the guy makes more than any of us. But so what. Should he just sit back and let the producers dishonesty be rewarded? I don't think so. Concur. Plus, actors like a lot of folks in entertainment don't work all year long (even if they wanted to) so the five figures for RQ are spread out over a year doesn't neccessarily add up to a fine living. Essentially, producers end up paying to maintain Randy Quaid or whomever in the stable of actors, artists, technicians, etc that are available to them. I have a freind who describes his life in film as the best part-time job you can have. John O. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
