Porksalot4L 03-15-2006, 12:48 AM hey does anyone remember the old Trinity Delta shocks? they had the micro and the bigger ones. i was just thinking about them and how bad they would build and how easy they would blow up. thankfully they are gone :)
ps. no point to this thread just remembering junk! lol

The dirt oval guys still use them. Sometimes "old school" is good.Built right they were a good shock.
The assc. side shocks on my Hyperdrive are rebuilt before every raceday.
The assc. T/C threaded blue shocks on my dirt oval car S@#!. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/icons/icon8.gif
Porksalot4L 03-15-2006, 01:31 AM can you still get parts for those shocks? or do you just hope nothing breaks? i have some old ones still
There are parts out there. Dirtoval.com would be your best bet to ask around on.
I remember the directions for building them stated" if the shaft pops out listen hard for where the internal spring lands" Spring has been discovered as far away as 25 feet. http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/icons/icon7.gif
Tim Mc 03-15-2006, 02:43 AM Hmm, worst shock ever?
I guess for me it would be filing for divorce from my first wife and finding out she beat me to it...What a shock!!...LOL.

Now that is freakin hilarious!!!!
Kenwood 03-15-2006, 09:23 AM Yeah I remember the old delta shocks...Funny you mention them...When I originally threw in the rc towell in the early 90's I remember running autodome in lexington...I had my center one blow twice in 1 night..I remember putting the car away mad because somehow without any incident the shock would come apart and then the car would drop into the concrete..UGH.. When I got back into it last year I FINALLY disassembled the delta shock.. the piston has actually broken off the shaft***the piston/shaft on the larger ones were 1 pc like ASC side shocks... I looked at the metal and you could see massive porosity... just BAD materials all the way around... Im glad to be running in these times where QC is a little higher than back then..
Yep,I was runnin a woods car back then, and thought the delta shock was the best thing going, boy was I dumb or what?
G-Dizzle 03-15-2006, 11:30 AM sounds like operator error.

LOL It really said that? 25feet!!!!!!! LOL
YEP.....thats why they were so much fun to build.
RC4less 03-15-2006, 07:40 PM No offence to my boy Steve Rule but the absolute worst shock ever was the shocks that came on the old Bolink Round Tracker and Invader circa 1985 timeframe.
Hey DK47 back me up here.

Actually the old Trinity and TRC shocks were copies of the original Delta shocks. Poor copies at that. I still have an in the bag brand new one around here somewhere that came with my TRC lynx two elite, Plastic molded piston and all. The original Delta shocks were and still are a really good shock as long as you keep up with them. The single floating o-ring design was their downfall. Most racers don't realize that that o-ring does double duty. Not only does it seal the shaft to the body wall but it also provides the pressurization by moving up and down inside the body. Thats why they wore out so quick. The wost shocks I remember had to be a tie between the old BoLink as Bruce mentioned or the ones that came from CRP for their shock upgrade kits for all the old off road cars. They really stunk up the place. I worked at a shop and sold plenty to grasshopper owners and never saw one that worked.
Kenwood 03-15-2006, 08:19 PM Yeah the LYNX2 shock was the "throwaway"part of the kit...along with the NON LTO chassis.. I remember buying like a Purple Trinity shock for it...If I recall the shock looked and worked similar to an HPI shock today.. Same purple etc.. BUt I swore it was trinity.. Great now your going to force me up into my attic to retrieve some of the old relics from the past.. Rear swaybars...floating pod with optional teflon damper disk>>>Usually that ended up stripping out the little screws holding that all together..UGH...You could use that or damper tubes.. Split tube front end.. Camber adjustments requires a VICE and a BF hammer.. Beat it like it owed you money untill your tires wore straight.. and 6 turnbuckles to qsquare the pod>>which inevitibly in every wreck would come out of alignment.. Ahhh the good old days of oval racing..
jenzorace 03-15-2006, 09:21 PM Ive got a butter tub full of those old shocks. Mostly junk, i should throw them away but im a packrat..
Mayhem 03-18-2006, 12:16 PM UHHH, I still use a delta shock on my TRC car at K/N! It weeps some kind of grey pasty matter but I never rebuild it because the car still runs well. Must be 10 year old shock oil I suppose???:)
I may be replacing her with a RIP car I will be trying at the track today with a rteal shock that actually moves! Only time will tell.
Outlaw 44 03-20-2006, 10:42 PM Back when I still had my Bolink LTO I eventually ended up replacing the original sorry exuses for shocks by one damper tube. Gained 4 laps afterwards!
