It's already time to start planning for the CD R/C Racers 2006 DIRT Season.

The first order of business is to announce that Kirt will once again assume responsibility for the DIRT season this summer; after a fine job this winter by Gary H in running the indoor carpet season.

Second is to have a planning meeting this Wednesday 15 March, at the Deerfield "Little D" indoor track; located at 53 Troy Ave, Wyantskill starting at 6:30 (just off Exit 8 of I-90). You can even bring your ride and make some early season laps on the 50 feet of fun track where we staged a leg of the Quad Track Challenge last fall.

Sorry for the short notice, but its better than sitt'n around and waiting. Also, please post any ideas or topics you feel we should discuss at the meeting.

See Ya ............ Soon ............... At The Track

Been asked if we could hold a meeting more centrally located.

Yes in a week or two we’ll have another meeting, probably in Latham. I had the opportunity to grab my #1 helper this week and only had Wednesday free; and knowing that a group of our summer racers are already at the meeting location track we decided to piggy-back the opportunity.

In the meantime, post any concerns, comments, desired rules, etc on this thread.

See Ya……………At The Track:thumbsup:

Are enough people intrested in Mini T's to race every week? i would be driving almost an hour to get to the track, which is no big deal if their is enough people to race.

My schedule just got screwed up and I cannot due the meeting this Wednesday after all.

Lets move it to this Friday 3/17 St Patty's Day, at the Latham Mall, in the food court area at 6:30.

Sorry for the late notice and false alarm; but promise the significant other a night out and surprise her. LOL

On the oval or off-road? If it could be done on a Saturday or Sunday night but I don't think that works fpr many people...

are the minis catching on or are they fading out? I was thinking of getting one.
If you brung a rc1018b (buggy) would people have a problem with that?
Do they le you run the buggys at the boy's club?

KirtC

Minis are catching on. We plan to have 2 classes this year; an entry level box stock so kids can afford to start racing, and then a modiifed class. Rules need to be written down, after the class profides some input the Club's Officers make the final detemrination. BOdy styles for either are completly open, and I would recommneed the Box Stock group be detered from highly aero efficient bodies, again just to keep the costs down.

As far as Sprints go, I was the last holdout an d finally sold mine 2 years ago, but it would be great to see them make a come-back. HEck if Kinser can start his own series we can see the return of the winged wonders. Heck we can even make it a gearbix class so we can put thos old gold tubs back on the track.

And finally, speaking of Old Gold Tubs; the newest class this year will be "EDM Classic"
Chassis: Buggy style, center battery
Gearbox requried
4 working shocks
Old style vacuum formed EDM body or 40s Coupe style
No side air dams, minimmum rear spoiler (heigth to be determined)
Stock motor
No Locked diffs
Batteries 3300 or less
So brush off those RC-10s and Losi's and lets get Classic

Big_Mike
03-14-2006, 11:23 AM
KirtC " EDM Classic " is this a seperate class from "EDM Modern"??? Because Eastern Dirt Modified Class is any Chassis with a Gearbox.( RC10s,B3s,B4s,Custom works etc.) Any Northeast Dirt Modified body Vacum formed or Hand Built. Any Battery 3300 or more. And 27 Turn Stock Motors to keep it stock. Are you planning on having a Open EDM Class with Modified Motors.Any Body Style (Sail Panels,Spoilers, etc.). And Direct Drive (Custom Works,Home Made,etc.). More or Less RUN WHAT YOU BRUNG! :D

KirtC
03-14-2006, 01:55 PM
The EDM Classic division is aimed at those that:

a) Cannot afford the new high tech chassis, aftermarket shocks and springs, and other hop-ups required to be competitive

b) Have an old tub in the closet and want to get back into racing

c) Young guns that are better than a beginner, but not quite to the Big Block stage

The current EDM Big-Block Division uses the WDRA rules for bodies, which are way oversized, include front and rear sail-panels, but obviously are conducive to handling. Currently this class also uses a stock motor (the Big-block name was chosen only to indicate a more experienced driver). Using anything else is pointless on the small tracks that we run; with the exception of the Pine Bowl, but that’s a whole separate discussion.

One clarification to the earlier post, we will allow hand built bodies, which reflect a more realistic scale and style; detailed rules and measurements are forthcoming.

Also; what is said here is done so in the spirit of conversation and making things the best they can be for as many as possible; so please don’t be your normal shy selves out there and speak-up with your input be it:

¨ Bodies

¨ Batteries

¨ Tires

¨ Weight

¨ Length of Races

¨ Classes

¨ Location (one or traveling around)

¨ Track surface, shape, re-construction etc.

See Ya…………….At The Meeting

KirtC it's me again. Your Clarification is not necessary when it comes to "MEASUREMENTS" for Northeast Dirt Modified Bodies. I've Built and Sold Hundreds of Bodies over the years and theres alot of other guys out there that build there own and there all different. Unless your only going to run one style "MESUREMENTS" are usless because i will never change the size or the style of my bodies and others won't change theres. If anyone out there wants to run the most realist Northeast Dirt Modified Body contact me through the BIG MIKE DIRT OVAL Thread on Oval Track Discussions. And Thats Just My Opinion on EDM Body "MEASUREMENTS" :D

How's that ole saying go...If it weren't for back luck.......

Anyway, once again I have to postpone the meeting that was originally scheudled for Friday 17 March. Again I apologize but have too many outside influences on the schedule right now.

I need to check with a couple of key individuals and will announce the new date shortly. Besides, after driving to work in a driving snow storm there doesn't seem to be quite the panic as last week when it was 60 Deg!

Kirt,

Here are some questions for thought on the EDM Classic Class:

* What about allowing late model bodies on the EDM Classics?
Most are about 50% of the price that a decent aftermarket EDM body is.

* And what about shock towers? Will anything go?

* what about restrictions on width/tires. Seems like under the rules, you could actually run a converted truck.

Finally - is this going to take the place of the Smallblock/novice class?

My input, for what it is worth, is that I would like to see FEWER classes and MORE cars in each class. It would be so cool to "really" qualify for A-B-C-D mains every week.

Any other thoughts on classes out there? The 4wd oval has picked up at Renns, is there a plan for it on dirt?

"Old style vacuum formed EDM body or 40s Coupe style"
I'm not sure what these are, but I like the IMCA body that Vic mentioned. Will that be OK?

KirtC
03-21-2006, 01:46 PM
Vic
lets see a Pic or bring the car next week so we can see it.
The original goal was to use something that most rpeviuous racers ahve in the pile of lod stuff i the corner and that was not aero beneficial.

Razoo
03-21-2006, 02:51 PM
Sounded like a good idea, but now I'm not so sure. If I understand this right you want a class that you can't get bodies or parts for.

KirtC
03-21-2006, 03:57 PM
No, NO, and Not So !
A class where the older stuff is just as competative, with the new stuff, especially when is comes to chassis and bodies.
For an example, New bodies can be found at http://www.mcallisterracing.com/racing/page6.html
and possibly Big MIkes, I jsut haven't seen one in person yet.
We also wanted to allow racers to go retro an put a LEgneds or othe rsimilar coupe boby on the their ride and have some Old Fashion Fun (Pun intended)

So, for the classics class:

* Will we allow late model bodies?

* And what about shock towers? Will anything go?

* what about restrictions on width/tires. Seems like under the rules, you could actually run a converted truck. Will it be car tires only?

Hey Guys.. Just my two cents.. IMCA Modified and Northeast Dirt Modified Bodies are two totaly different style bodies. How many guys around here do you know run IMCA bodies??. I would have to say that 95% or more of the drivers around here run with Northeast Dirt Modified Bodies. I've built hundreds of bodies over the years and mine Compared to the real cars that race in this area are the most realistic bodies in the area. All of my bodies are hand built and can fit almost any chassis out there. Unlike these vacum formed bodies on the market that only come one size fits all and you have to HACK them up to make them fit some of the chassis out there and they look like my 4 year old mounted them on there cars. There are a few other guys out there that hand build bodies that look close to the real thing and then theres others that just don't have a CLUE!!! Right know i have two different styles a realistic N.E.D.M body and a N.E.D.M. with Sail Panels. You guys are talking about SIDE AIR DAMS please explain what you mean by side air dams because as far as i know Sail Panels are side air dams unless your talking about bodies that are open from front to rear with no windsheild?????? If anyone wants to see my bodies go to Radio control-Dirt Body on ebay the #3 is a regular N.E.D.M on a custom works and the #28 is a N.E.D.M. with sail panels on a B3.

Here you go guys. Go to www.floridadirtoval.com (http://www.floridadirtoval.com) and check out the "nitro bomber" gallery. I think they are onto something there. The class looks like an old school buggy/truck chassis class. I do agree with Big Mike that vac formed bodies can look haked up on those cars. However, in the interest money and the old school flavor that seems to be the end goal here I think that "coupes" or the old "mud bus" style should be the way to go. I don't even know if those bodies can be gotten. I've checked Mudrock/Windtunnel bodies and he has most of the old Bolink molds like the Probe for dirt and Cavalier pavement mods for carpet but I'm sure that Ken at Racing City or John @ Competition could do a little digging to see just what kind of availability we might be talking about. Just my .02 cents.

Rob at Murdock R/C / Wind Tunnel does have a good supply of dirt oval bodies in stock. These are made from the old Bolink molds. You can also get these bodies from your local hobby shop and if your LHS does not have them in stock Rob has a list of distributors your LHS can use. If your LHS does not use these distributors Rob will set up an account for your LHS and they can purchase these bodies through him or you can buy direct from Murdock R/C. Rob is a HobbyTalk sponsor and you can get to his web site by clicking Murdock R/C at the right.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but thought I would try to help. Dirt oval racing seems to be growing around the country.

Good luck

03-22-2006, 12:17 PM
Bill. I think that we will be looking for 30's & 40's "coupes" and "coaches" like the legends used back in the day. Maybe the old Gremlin style "mud bus" body as well. From what I've seen of Murdock's site he's only making the DIRT Probe body and the NASCAR, S/K PAVEMENT modifieds. I would love to see thos bodies I mentioned above done. If he has the mold.
