It's not as bad as the 2 that sold for $3000.But I agree $636 is a bit much to pay just to make a mold!LOL

Well I could save on the shipping since it's only about three hours away and I could pick it up in person.... Uh honey, yeah, this slotcar is worth one of your car payments on the Escalade.

If I had one to sell, i'd pay the shipping. :)

Damn, wish I would have hid all those slots from my mother.

I love the 510s but the Sugar Daddy version is one butt ugly paint scheme. Rare or not, butt ugly is butt ugly and I only buy cars I like to look at, and that are cheap. If it isn't cheap I don't want it.

The most I've ever paid for a single slot car is $44.00 and I still feel somewhat guilty about it. I bought it because I wanted a souvenir of my visit to one of the nicest hobby shops in America. I still run the car of course. That's what they are for. If it breaks, too bad, but you can't put a price on the enjoyment I had running it.

I guess I just don't understand what goes on in a collector's brain. Why would anyone pay the kind of money these slot cars go for on E-Bay from some anonomous vendors who is only out to make a buck? What's with the burning desire to own something of no real consequence or direct personal association that's been labeled as "rare?" Not just that, but pay so much for a car that you are scared to death of running it.

I agree.
I like to race my cars. I have had a couple of $200 cars and still run them. Seems a pity to do anything else with them.

What I do collect is repaints done by various slot friends I have made alongthe years. But most of them get run too. For me, putting heat and final wins on them adds to their personal value....

AFX too- Unfortunately, some of the collector bug has bitten me. I am trying to complete my collection of all the original Tjets and Vibes. Unfortunately, this includes a batmobile, Semi, super modified, etc. I am down to the super modified. I have been fortunate enough to find damaged originals and refurbish them. I got a Green Hornet pretty cheap with carved wheel wells in a runner purchase. Using matching paint and epoxy, I did a pretty good job of repairing and filling in my collection. So far, I haven't had to spend over $100, but I am having trouble on the Super Modified.

I haven't had the desire to chase anything due to rarity. Every one of my cars is raced by not only me, but anyone who wants to. (I take that back, people who can't slow down, don't get cars with fins, spoilers, etc.)

I love the Bauer cars, but have yet to buy one because they are pricey. My wife got me one HOD for an Xmas present. So, I am with you about spending a lot on cars.

I guess everyone plays at a different level and to some folks a $500 slot car is peanuts. If someone wants a $2500 one of a kind slot car because they like it and it makes them happy and they are still feeding their kids and paying their taxes, well good for them. Hard core racers are no different, paying more for a small collection of slot car tires than they pay for the tires on their real car. I think most hobbyists are somewhere in the middle, far removed from the extremes.

If something is truly rare it should be in a museum.

Well the collector bug hit me for one of the Petty mail in Chargers. Dropped an acceptable $150. for it, but it was one that was worth it and the seller didn't BS in his description. Plus he threw in a set of repro stick on "decals". rr
