Has anyone had any experience with these? I was thinking of trying one, but was curious to know everyone's impresssions of it. My biggest question was the issue of direct drive. I would assume that tire dia. and track size would determine its performance, but perhaps I'm overthinking it. Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron

I had 4 of the the Original 64 Mark 1's and they were fun, but made for Routed tracks.
I have heard you can grind the Gude Flag down and it should then run on regular plastic track, but I never tried that.
They have more torque then you would think and have an endless top end but as to be expected have very little braking. You have to Roll thru the turns and let off way early.

I have a couple Mark 1s that I run on Monogram home set track. I had to switch to larger rear tires as the down force was insane and would have eventually ruined the motor.
btw, Monogram track is good for tjet racing too. The wide slot adds a bit of a challenge.

Ed does a H:O version, with a narrower guide and the motor wires reversed. But, really, with the lack of friction, the car rolls on a huge amount so you need to run on tracks with brakes wired in. Then it is huge fun!

The only thing I do not like about mine is they are wired backwards as compared with most HO slot cars (i.e., they run in the opposite direction). It's kind of a pain to reverse my track polarity so they run in the right direction. Other than that they're a lot of fun.

Why not reverse the wires yourself?

Absolutely!
But I figured for people yet to buy one, they might like to know that Ed will prep them for use with H:O plastic track.

I have four of them, I kept two of them in their boxes and stored them away, the other two I replaced the original pickups with Riggen pickups and haven't looked back. They're unique cars, worth having in your collection
