As per Hank's request, we're starting a new Maverick support thread. I was really hoping to see 100,000 views on the old one, but oh well!

Please post up questions, comments, tuning ideas or help wanted, etc ...

Thanks to everyone for making the first Maverick thread one of the best in the oval support section!

Jake

Thought this might be of interest to others, so I pulled it off the old thread ...

____________
CBear: I had a question... A lot of you guys prefer the slider to the OPC (in general and on flat tracks in particular). I've got mine setup exactly like my OPC, with the first battery about even with the shock tower which is just one slot back from the front. I've got a GTX sitting on the back of the tray, in that last slot. Here's the problem:
I cannot make ride height to save my life. Maybe I got a little over aggressive with the sanding drum on the battery slots, but the sag on the left rear of the tray, made it nearly impossible to pass tech. I wound up at 7mm front and rear before I could get the thing close, and at that point I decided running the OPC with the 19t setup was probably better than running the slider that high.
Not all of you are running the banked tray, so how are the guys with the stock tray handling this? Thanks guys...

_____________
JPH: I've seen this a time or two when the left rear weight gets too light. Check the scales and please let me know the weights on the rear. Basically, when you put tweak into the chassis, it holds up the battery side of the car (actually, it forces down on the right side, thus putting weight on the left rear via the right side shock). Anyway, when the crossweight gets too low, or if you run reverse tweak, the left side isn't supported as it should be. Just something to check!

_____________
CBear: We have a winner. Was running only a hair over 11 ounces on the left rear, when I went up to 12.5 like you guys had mentioned at Birds it evened out a lot.

AC, you were on the right track too. I had 20 thousandths (0.5 mm) of stagger before, and when I evened them out it helped some (I typically don't run much stagger, as the last time we did the math to figure out what it would take to make our corners it was on the order of a thousandth or so).

So now we're at 12.5 oz. on the LR, 7.5 oz. on the RR.
Ride heights were 6.5 on the LF, 7 on RF...
7.5 at the nerf bar, 6 at the front of the tray, and 5.5 at the rear, and 5.5 at the rear center of the pod (running 0.5's upside down for 2.18 in. tires, or 55.37 mm for the imperial challenged).

Whew...now time to lower the nose...put in 1.5 mm spacers, reset cross weight 12.3 - 7.9 across the rear...
5 at the front of the tray, 5.5 at the rear of the tray

PROBLEM SOLVED...I gotta learn to keep an eye on the left rear weight, typically we run over on ounce lighter there than the Cali trio but if you tune the rest of the car and leave that weight alone it has worked, so we'll have to keep trying it.

One problem down, one more to go (try to sell the Pro4 to buy a mini-mav )

Hey Jake, have you gotten a chance to look over the stuff that I sent you? Don't mean to be a pest, I know that you just recently got back from some big races and things are probably busy. Just was wondering if there was any update. Thanks.

That aint it, Hank apparently has a pirate or two in his families past and he's trying to cover his tracks. He still has a couple of treasure maps and he wants to cool the pirate stuff down a little. Arrrrrrrrrrrr ya hearing me? Captain Hank? Kinda has a pirate ring to it doesnt it? Shivver me timbers, Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This mornings Original thread count is 89,819 views 3rd highest, and 2,869 replies 1st highest.

I have not posted my racing success lately so here it is....

2-18-06 - 2nd A main - banked track paved 19T
2-27-06 - 1st A main - flat track paved 19T (1st A main win everrrrrrr (pirate reference))
3-4-06 - 2nd A main - flat track paved 19T- Jake I needed the "Dot-Be-Gone" spray to win this!

I have one 05 set exclusively for flat tracks and the other one is for banked, thus there is never any major set-up changes, just minor tweaks. The cars are great and VERY COMPETITIVE all the time - it is the nut behind the wheel that gets in the way.

Shawn: Sent you an e-mail this afternoon, sorry for the delay.

AC and Mr. Butts: Tell me a new pirate joke ...

Scott: I'd say you're doing rather well with the Maverick ... Top 2 each time out is impressive. Having a car set up for each kind of track is a great way to go. How has Alan been doing?

MP: 85', wow that's a small track! How many laps in 4 minutes? What center and side oil are you using? How did the car handle last time at the track?

What's a pirate's favorite mode of transportation?
A cAARRRRGGH!

what is a pirates favorite study subject?
arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt.

a little kid with a speech impediment dresses up as a pirate and goes trick or treating. he knocks on the door of a house and a man answers. "oh, i can see you're dressed up as a pirate." the man says. "but where are your buccaneers?" the kid gets really mad, and says "on the sides of my buckin' head!"

Ya want more I got more where that came from LOL!!!!!:)

Hi all,
I ran stock class this week at Marshalls in PA. All I can say is this car turns and handles better than any chassis I have run in years (been racing since 1990). Now I have to work on the motor program to see what she can really do. I ran one lap off the leaders to finish third, my motor was a purple endbell chrome 68 watts but spooled up in 5.2 on the fantom. The car was sssllllooowww down the straights I am guessing because of the long spool up time. I will update next week and thanks for everyones help on this thread!

Jake,
I am not sure if I am getting better or if my primary competitors are just in a bit of a slump. I suspect a bit of both.

Alan has been struggling a bit due to the fact that he is bringing his son up in the oval stock class and has not been able to focus on his car as much as normal. He spent last week re-building his 04 for his son. He will be back with a vengance soon, I am sure of that, with the his 2nd 05 on track soon. He is a darn good wheelman. He has tought me a heck of alot.

Dale: Nice! Piur the gearing to 'er and see what she will do! Once the car gets free and fast in the turns, it is time to work on the motors!

Scott: You're getting better, no doubt about it! :)

MP: 85', wow that's a small track! How many laps in 4 minutes? What center and side oil are you using? How did the car handle last time at the track?

I turned some solids 81, flirted(sp?) with 83s. But I know I can get alot more at this track as I get a better hotrod and get better at driving it.

Better and more experienced drivers at this tracks have turned some High 80s. I don't belive they hit the 90 mark yet. (I don't race there on a weekly basis).

I ran 50 center with HPI
and 30 sides VCS

The car was not bad. But I could not get the power down in the turn at all or it would go around as if I was dirt tracking.

Straight away speed was good. Looking at the video (I tape most of all my races) I was coming probably too hot into the turns and getting on too quick. But the car's rear end was definately not planted.

Luv very short track racing!!!!!!! 6 cars in 1 heat there is like running 60 cars at Martinsville in Cup racing

M.P.: I'd try running blue springs on both sides, adjust the tweak as needed to come off the turn. Might also try spacing out the left rear some. Once the car is comfy to drive, try a gold on the left rear and keep the same left rear weight.
The track looks like fun! I've never driven on anything that small before! Traffic would be awesome and the bump pass would definitely come into play :)

Moss: 85 laps with 6 cell stock and 6 cars! Very cool!

Hey guys i the track Mp is talking the 1/12 scale record is 91 in a 5 minute race ,it is a tight track but alot of fun and very competive racing. good luck this weekend MP at the trophy race should have some stiff compitition.

And to the Mavrick guys it was great to meet you guys at the Birds , can't ask for better guys they didn't care what chassis you ran they would try to help keep up the good work.

MP you should try to see if you can make it to Massena and run with the guys on the new track. I know They would help out with the setup. They have the 1/12 scales flying around this track record is 95 laps in 5 min.

P.S. besides i would like to see the mini mav. I know i have been thicking about getting one.

Tightline and jhseckinger,
Below is my flat track set up. It might be especially of interest to you JH. It may help your loose middle to out issue because it gives the car a bit of a pushy feel. It requires a little different driving style though...early off the throttle (last 1/4 to 1/8 of straight) with wide entry and full-on throttle throughout the turn.

This is my 19T flat track set-up. It is a pretty bumpy varying length track 180’-230’ (track operators surprise)

Chassis: '05 Maverick H.E.
Front Tires: L- Purple R – Red (RC4Less)
Front Springs: White/White (Wolf standard)
Lube: Cactus Juice heavy
Caster: L 0 R 2
Camber: as needed
Upper Arm location: L - top R – Middle (both on inner holes IRS blocks)
Wheelbase: 10 3/8”
Trailing: Even
Center shock: Assoc., Silver Spring, ¼” pre-load, 60wt oil
Center shock location: 1 open hole between t-plate bolt and mount, 3rd hole down on mount
T-plate: Assoc. .075” offset
Side Shocks: L – 45wt oil, gold spring, no threads showing. R – 45wt oil, blue spring, 2-5 threads showing (assoc. springs)
Side shock location: Top hole
Pod Orientation: Middle wheelbase, standard position on t-plate
Rear Tires: purple/purple (RC4Less)
Battery location: Back of last cell in line with front of side shock mounts
Rear steer: 0 slug
Body: Protoform HD Monte
Wing: My own design – w-5.5”, horizontal plane 2”x5.5”, 30 degree kick-up 1.5”x5.5’, side dams 2.75”x2.5”
Gearing: 35/100
Rollout: 2.44

Comments: This is a very competitive set-up, which requires an earlier let-off of the throttle and wider entry into the turn, but will handle full throttle basically throughout 97% of the turn. I adjust tweak minimally to balance push/loose. I also add preload to the center shock to loosen the car.

Hope it helps - let me know.
