Something even better: Avast Antivirus.
http://www.avast.com
It's free and worth every penny.

Mcafee can be removed by using the add/remove program in the control panel.

I've had other people say to stay away from Norton and McAfee, but noone will tell me why. Can you tell me why you say that. The I.T. manager at work says Norton is as good as anything else. Any help would be great.

I was totally turned off by Mcafee, It first asked for a password when you logg on after you just put your pass word in for windows, Then all the updates that you get directs you to a sight where it ask you for money for a another addition, file space it takes up is tremendos, just to name a few it has been a while that I have had it removed from my comp, and life is a lot more easier, with out it !!!! Just my opionion :dude:

Mcaffee and norton are terrible.Lets say this with either of them fully updated they tend to still let viruses through.I know no antivirus protects everything but they are the worse of the bunch. My main gripe with them is they require alot of resident memory to run in the background.Depending on the program parameters between 100 mb to 190 meg.If you have a machine with 256 megs of ram you will find the running this program or programs above would cause you to use the cache of your hardrive just to run your machine (256-150 plus).

I can't stand having small programs like virus scans and such taking up memory. I know this is a tangent, but AOL recently released a new instant messanger version/client, and it is terrible. While it does give you some more options as far as contact info goes, I want my instant messanger to run in the background and not have an impact on how my computer runs. Thats why I like Ad Aware and pther programs that only run when you want them too.

Bizarre. In all the (seven) years i've used McAfee, I've never had a single problem with it. :(
