What kind of plug ignitor is everyone using? I have had two, and nothing but trouble with them. They eaither dont hold a charge for long at all ( i mean like 2 or 3 starts) or it just gets to the point it wont charge. I know this mostly comes back on the battery but im looking to just buy one new good one that will last. What do you guys reccomend?

I got a metal one that you just put a regular D cell battery in, that I really like. A battery lasts for months and you don't have to charge it. Several people make them, I think mine is an Ofna.

Rechargables are good until you have to stop and recharge them. Kind of like the whole electric powered car thing, fun till you gotta recharge them. :) I've stocked a couple "C" igniters made by Racers Edge (no affiliation btw) and they have worked pretty well. When I reordered however they didn't have any so I picked up a couple of the Ofna "C" alkaline igniters instead and they seem to be as good or better built units than the Racers Edge. The best thing is, just carry a couple batteries with you so if one dies you just pop another one in and you're set.

well i plan on driving my truck alil tomarow so i bought a duratrax D cell ignitor for right now. Its just got a plastic body and your normal glow ignitor end on it, and you put a D battery in it. The only downside I dont like is that it doesnt have the locking mechanism on the plug, so you have to keep pushing down on it in order for it to work.

Actually if you push down and turn I think you'll find that it will lock onto the plug. At least that's the way most of them are.

Actually, a rechargable igniter is better, as they carry much higher discharge rates than C and D cell alkaline batteries. I think the biggest problem most nitro racers have is a badly tuned, or wore out, or improperly matched glow plug/engine combination. It's not a shot at anyone, but a well tuned and matched engine will start immediately after priming (very SHORT priming). My rechargeable igniter lasts (one charge) nearly half a summer season racing two nitro vehicles two times a week. So, my opinion is scrap the alkaline type and get a decent rechargeable. You can carry 50 old sub-c cells that are charged and never run out of juice, plus you aren't buying new alkalines constantly.

I actually like the HotShot, even though they are not replaceable cells (without some fiddling that is). They are light and thin, easy to carry. Also, I got a few new O.S. ones sent from my sponsor that are dandy (it's a cool word). They are aluminum cased and use rechargable or alkaline AA cells. Haven't tried them yet, but I'm sure they work just fine.
